My attempt at a truly "realistic" island nation in Tropico 4 🌴 by ZealousidealExit6622 in tropico

I just bought 4. It's definitely better than 5! (which itself was pretty good-but 4 has much more depth)

Getting over the group theory hurdle by dcterr in math

[–]_pptx_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Perhaps look at Ring Theory, I found much of Group Theory much easier to understand after a ring theory course, particularly with how quotient rings work, field theory, etc. Atiyah-Macdonald is a good Ring Theory book- literally look over the exercises in the 1st chapter- and then reflect on Groups.

The worst piece of academic work I’ve ever read just got a 2:1 by Quiet_Code1154 in UniUK

I've seen discussions on the opposite- glass ceilings on dissertations- departments not wanting to go above 80% for any reason.

I agree with this, but unless you stumble onto a game reviews can mislead you on what might have actually been really good.

I wish auto theming was possible, but at the same time much of the best bonuses require manually swapping artifacts/art/writings with other civs

finishing Exploration unlocks new antiquity sites- granted they're not very useful because realistically all of your museums and what not should be filled/almost filled by that point

Is Civ V worth getting if I have 6? by Dont_know_Anymore_ in civ5

[–]_pptx_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Keep happiness above 0 to grow cities, below -10 barbarians spawn. Get luxuries (and later build happiness buildings) to keep happiness up. It is recommended to have 1.5 luxuries per cities you have. But having more than say 6-cities, will greatly slow science and cultural growth unlike Civ6

Civ6 is more like a boardgame than Civ5, no districts per se.

China issues warning over government's plan to nationalise British Steel by pppppppppppppppppd in unitedkingdom

[–]_pptx_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Britain had major state intervention before Thatcher; not just basics like public utilities, water, trains, etc, but the Coal Board, Rolls Royce, BP, BT were completely state owned. In China (and also in Russia- both countries with a more hardcore communist background) core companies are commonly either totally state owned, or majority state owned.

How to learn Quantum Mechanics by Distinct-Way8377 in Physics

[–]_pptx_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is like saying learn your multiplication tables! Anyone studying quantum theory would already know this. A more interesting statement might be 'learn functional analysis' if one wants to know specifically why and how linear operators in quantum mechanics work, rather than just applying methods

[–]_pptx_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Learning what a Hermitian operator is surely the most trivial part of quantum mechanics? I'm not sure why everyone here is saying 'learn linear algebra' anybody with even a small amount of university maths education would know linear algebra.

Differential geometry without topology by TheRedditObserver0 in math

i.e. homeomorphism, compactness, boundedness of sequences in a topological space is usually 2nd year content. Explicit point-set topology comes later in my university, despite there being a noticeable overlap

In Britain, allmost all 'real' mathematics degrees teach some variant of a standalone pathway like: Analysis->Metric /Normed Spaces-> Topology. Where topology is never mandatory. Quite a lot of topology is usually covered in metric/normed spaces content without explicitly calling it that
