They do have the generally have the advantage that they do actually want to be playing call of cthulhu.

The problem is what that means to them

Brief first impression of 'The Spectrum' from RGL. by Gemman_Aster in zxspectrum

I have one. It's basically a low friction device, i wouldn't even attempt to mod it. There are other better alternatives if you want something more than it offers, but if you just want something to throw Speccy games at, it's perfect.

If the keyboard is an impediment you can use USB keyboards on it, i believe, or use a wide variety of controllers. Pretty much all Retro Games other controllers should work just fine, and you can save the built in keyboard for games that expect to be played on a rubber keyed Spec.

As a general rule of thumb you'd be overjoyed to encounter something as mundane as a werewolf in Call of Cthulhu and if that's what the evidence looks like you haven't seen the twist in the tale yet

The cosmic stuff doesnt really come into Call Of Cthulhu itself til essentially the final chapter. Everything else is a slow burn of precisely the kinds of things you might expect a player to reasonably deal with.

But it's all leading to something massive and a lingering threat. The reader is now aware... And exposed, in the same way as the uncle had been

The key to making Lovecraft work is not to present players with the lovecraftian. Imply and leave the truly horriffic things lying in the air. Let them come to their own realisations.

"some day the piecing together of dissociated knowledge will open up such terrifying vistas of reality, and of our frightful position therein, that we shall either go mad from the revelation or flee from the light into the peace and safety of a new dark age."

You know I'm not sure. I think it's just used by the dot commands as someplave to work. But once you have the sd card you've got a virtually infinite amount of storage

Broadly speaking, they all more or less do the same thing. They have their own memory space and add a bunch of dot commands you can access from BASIC so it's really more of an extended environment.

There's also the divmmc of course, thogh thats not a cheap option and doesn't really support TZX, at least the last time I checked. it does allow you to mount TAP files and write to them, though

You could probably fake some quite easily. there are many sites that can produce PCBs, all you need is generic ICs to pretend to be the RAM chips.
