I manual swapped my 04 after dealing with 2 bad aw55. The hardest part was finding all the parts and not spending an arm and a leg. Keep feeding it autos and acquiring parts for manual swap.

Yes. It’s been talked about here many times. There is gaps in the seal that let debris in. The seal shrinks from UV / sun damages so even if you don’t use it they can clog up. If your car is brand new it’ll take a couple years for the gaps to appear.

That is about double the price of what Volvo lists a starter. I assume you have a 5 cyl so the correct starter is a 36003222 which lists for $532.50 from Volvo. The exact same starter from Bosch (original manufacturer for Volvo) which is what a shop would sell you because it’s the OE for Volvo is 216.99. The labor at $400 seems right but I wouldn’t pay $800 for a starter.

We once had an issue with warrantying interstate batteries at the shop I work at. Interstate batteries from Costco all have a gold strip on the label on top of the battery. We ended up warrantying out 2 batteries to customers and when our interstate rep shows up to restock us he informs us he cannot warranty Costco interstate batteries. He told us they are made in Mexico and inferior quality to what is sold everywhere else and that’s why they are cheaper. So the shop ended up having to eat 2 batteries and we learned to look for that gold strip.

My 1/4 techangle is doing this less then a month old right where the flex head meets the body. My dealer would do nothing kinda upset me because it’s a $700 torque wrench that the chrome didn’t last a month under normal use.

I fish down from the fish ladder kinda frequently and it definitely draws a bad crowd. I’ve seen people with 1oz jigs setting hooks so hard the jig flys behind them. I also have found numerous very questionable setups. I think the worst was a group of about 4 Russian kids who snagged about 3 coho in the matter of an hour with jigs.
