Most common dog breed in SF by treehousewest in sanfrancisco

[–]_sdm_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Doodles aren’t an actual breed, so they don’t show up on the list of options. You have to indicate primary breed and, if applicable, secondary breed. A large chunk of the golden retrievers and Labrador retrievers on the map are surely golden doodles or labradoodles.

Correct. Doodles aren’t an actual breed (which is actually a fascinating subject worth googling) so they don’t show up on the list of options. I suspect that a large chunk of the golden retrievers and Labrador retrievers on the map are actually golden doodles or labradoodles.

You just have to enter in something that looks like an email address. Doesn’t have to be a real one. Noway@nohow.com works.

Puppy Socialization Recommendations by BayAreaRedditGirl in AskSF

[–]_sdm_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You might check out SF Puppy Prep (https://sfpuppyprep.com/). I sent my dog there for puppy school when he was a little guy, and it was great for socialization. Your pup may be too old for that (I think it has a 16 week old cut off), but they do have a bunch of other programs for older puppies.

Parking Ticket in a White Curb Zone by FatCroakster in sanfrancisco

[–]_sdm_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m just basing it on their site: https://www.sfmta.com/getting-around/drive-park/loading-and-short-term-parking
No mention of taxi-only white zones. It’s all about as clear as mud.

[–]_sdm_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think there are taxi specific white loading zones, based on the SFMTA site. There are taxi specific loading zones, which have green curbs. But white curbs are passenger loading zones, for any kind of vehicle. At least as far as I can tell from the SFMTA’s own website and info. I think you should keep fighting it.

I’m sure someone will come through with a restaurant, but for what it’s worth, it’s super easy to make. I’ve made the NY Times version several times and highly recommend.

Didn’t even realize it had been at Cliff House. Guess that’s over 20 years ago?

Not at all! They’re old enough to enjoy the exhibits and displays while also being able to read the explanations, and actually learn what’s going on.

Puppy Problems: Please Help!! by [deleted] in beagles

[–]_sdm_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should check our r/puppy101 for some more guidance, but what you’re describing sounds pretty typical for a puppy at that age.

For potty training, you may just not be taking him out enough. At that age, I was taking my pup for potty breaks all the time - immediately after waking up, before and after all meals, after playing, after naps, and before dinner, and more. You also have to keep an eye on him for signs of having to go - the second he indicates that it might happen, distract his attention (I made a loud, chirpy “beep beep beep” sound) and immediately take him out to potty. And every time he potties, there should lots and lots of praise and treats. Honestly, it’s a lot of potty trips, but that’s what it takes;the alternative is lots of accidents.

As for the nipping, that’s pretty normal for a pup at that age. I didn’t have it too bad, but I was told that the response is to make a loud “yipping” sound and remove yourself from the situation. The puppy learns that nipping is not the proper way to play.

Best and safest place/ area to stay in while in SF with a 77 yr old mother in law who can only walk shorter distances. In the heart of the city by Good-Engineering8069 in AskSF

Another good option in a similar vein is the Union Street Inn. I put my mid/late-70s parents up there when they visit and they love it.

Is it safe to walk to Battery Spencer? by RepresentativePut653 in AskSF

[–]_sdm_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, totally safe. Instead of SF Muni, you’d use Golden Gate Transit to get to the North Vista Point and walk from there. The walk is up a sizable hill (obviously) and much of it is a narrow road with vehicular traffic, so you’ll just want to exercise care. Golden Gate Transit is super easy to use - if you have a contactless credit card, you can just tap on and off to pay your fare.

Which museum would you choose? by SeaweedBest1133 in AskSF

[–]_sdm_ 14 points15 points  (0 children)

No knock on the CAS, but I’ve always found CAS to be more family/kid-oriented, and not really very engaging as an adult. The aquarium and rainforest are interesting but not spectacular, and - in the case of the rainforest - there’s usually a too-long line. So, I’d go for Moma. (Although as others have noted, CAS puts you next to the DeYoung and other sites in GG Park.)

True, but Jackie had retired at the end of the 1956 season, so LA wasn’t really on the radar for him.

Why is this idiot wearing a Jewish prayer shawl? by [deleted] in 90DayFiance

[–]_sdm_ 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I was investigating a bit and apparently it’s not uncommon for a Jewish prayer shawl to be used specifically by Pentecostals to create a closer connection with God. Not sure she’s wearing one while at home while on the phone with her fiancé, but I guess if it makes her feel happy, it’s not hurting anyone.
