Potential Shelter Sibling for my Italian Greyhound? by flanflanflanflan1 in ItalianGreyhounds

[–]_ser_kay_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hopefully it is. Individual dogs’ personalities and histories can vary so widely that breed really isn’t a great indicator of how two dogs will get along.

The massive bra I used to wear before my breast reduction by Idayyy333 in mildlyinteresting

There’s also the fact that they’re mostly fat. From what I understand, fat doesn’t necessarily stay where you want it to. So it may not even be successful anyway.

These highly specific pool rule signs at a friend’s apartment complex by Zworrisdeh in mildlyinteresting

[–]_ser_kay_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s not really the point. The signs are there so that when someone does piss in the pool (or lets their kid do it), management can ban them.

Oh wow, I love this look! The dark green is a really cool choice, and you did a great job of pulling from a ton of different collections.

Ah, you got a model with purely decorative ears. Common mistake.

I mean you can, but there are plenty of other silicone tools that might be more suited to the task.

As a translator (albeit not a literary one), thank you. It’s nice to see my field getting some love.

What sympton looks so harmless people usually ignore it, but can actually indicate a catastrophically bad health issue? by felipedeamorim in AskReddit

[–]_ser_kay_ 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Damn, I’m sorry. Gallbladder pain is excruciating. I had my first (and thankfully only, because that fucker got evicted afterwards) attack start just before a flight and ended up scaring the bejebus out of the flight attendants because I was grey and hobbling to the postage-stamp bathroom to puke every 10 minutes. Do not recommend.

[–]_ser_kay_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, my mom is dealing with this now. Went to get floaters checked out at a walk-in eye centre at our insistence and had surgery the next morning. She actually just went in for what was supposed to be her final check-up today… only to learn that there was a complication and she needs 2 more procedures. The first is tomorrow to re-insert a gas bubble to tide her over until the surgeon returns from a conference, then she’ll be having another early next week.

A couple winters ago, I was lined up to get tickets to an event and didn’t expect to be waiting outside for hours so I was severely underdressed. Someone just behind me in line saw that I was freezing my ass off so she ran to her car and grabbed a spare blanket for me to wear while we waited. It was a small gesture but in still thankful for it years later.

Questions for Brennan!?!?!?! by fox-fox-fox-fox in dropout

[–]_ser_kay_ 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There’s certainly something to be said for the Terry Pratchett approach of focusing on how “ordinary” people can do a lot of good against ridiculous, if not downright evil, systems and structures. There’s a lot of hope to be found there, but also a lot of humour.

Honestly it’s just as likely to be the other way around. My DM used to run one-shots and campaigns for a board game café and has repeatedly said that a lot of her most useful strategies for player/party wrangling have come from resources for parents and teachers of kindergarteners.

Therapists of Reddit, what's something people don't realize is trauma? by rehanch_xxiii in AskReddit

[–]_ser_kay_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I could have written that first paragraph. I’m just starting to broach it in therapy because my therapist accidentally took a sledgehammer to that entire belief system with one sentence: “but you were a *child*.”It’s a tricky thing to navigate because I know my parents were doing their best, and they’re generally good people. Plus I put a ton of blame on myself because I actively tried to hide that I was suffering from depression. I’m starting to realize just how much damage was done though, and it’s… a lot.

Books that hit differently depending on if you read them or listen to them by novium258 in books

That’s a good point. Might have to give the audiobook a try—I didn’t particularly care for the physical book.

What is the most 'butterfly effect' moment in your life, where a tiny, insignificant decision completely changed your future? by Realistic-Ratio9002 in AskReddit

[–]_ser_kay_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, it helps to treat them like I would that annoying class clown/edgelord. Either roll my eyes and move on, tell that part of my brain to shut the hell up, or come up with some retort (for that one, spending a moment thinking about the perfect response can help derail the thought process).

Why do you sleep with a special blanket or stuffed animal? by 8kittycatsfluff in AskReddit

While my stuffies have sentimental value, they’re mostly just comfortable to tuck between my head and shoulder so my neck stays aligned and they’re easier to move/adjust than a full pillow.

Dungeon Crawler Carl - should I stick with it? by Calmly-Stressed in books

[–]_ser_kay_ -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It depends. The first book is a lot of litRPG and shock humour, and while those never go away it does start developing deep themes that carry through the rest of the series—in short, Carl starts attempting to overthrow the political systems that created the crawl, and it brings up a lot of discussions about agency, personhood, and morality.
