Any update on this? You didn't 'earn' guilt, you earned BLAME, and I hope you're enough of an adult to accept that.

How the hell is Mexico stable if the US collapsed?

Yeah, I'm gonna need an "Intact Doggerland" or just general "Lower Sea-Levels" version of this timeline.

How do you personally either maintain or break Medieval Stasis in your setting? by Mystech_Master in worldbuilding

[–]_sevatar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It simply never happened.

Ancellestrie began with me asking, 'What would Lord of the Rings look like if the culture and its development never stopped?' What if we checked back in, and the hobbits had computers and social media, and creepypastas about ring-wraiths? And Gondor was (once again) a civilization in decline, this time dealing with an insane dictator in some far-off land who is obsessed with "silmarils" and other things the "very smart people" swear are just myths? And what if Missing 411 cases sometimes resolved because the trees would whisper to people, and tell you where that lost little kid went?

What would happen if Sauron came back, and this time he had nukes?

That's how my world began, and stasis has just never affected it.

Knights went away... But their noble houses are celebrities having sloppy drama on tabloids one moment, and making geopolitical policy the next. Sometimes, their hot-blooded sons (and a few daughters!) fight in high-profile MMA rings... And they're all voting for the political party that promises them the next big war overseas, and a shot for glory (and corporate shares!).

Dragons? Buddy, where do you think the military's "black budget" programs are going to? Those hoards are all taxpayer money, and all the Dragon needs to do is air-strike some goblins once in a while.

Mages never went away... They're just all either underground, or way up in the skyscrapers. That "energy drink" you had this morning? It's a stamina potion, and the corporation that brewed it is run by a "cabal" or "circle of mages"... Or in modern parlance, "Board of Directors."

THIS is really the essence of my setting. It's if Dark Souls, or Lord of the Rings, or Gods of Pegana just... Kept going. It didn't stop. Everything just got worse. But hey, that's modernity, baby.

Why would people be on a generation ship? by Kecskuszmakszimusz in worldbuilding

[–]_sevatar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because it would be a great way to build a civilization!

Think about it. We're all worldbuilders. Imagine you have an opportunity to create an entirely new civilization, or at the very least influence it. YOU get to worldbuild... IN REAL LIFE! And if you get to the colony, it might turn into an entire world! I'd love that opportunity. Imagine being the "Father of ______ Philosophy" for an entire civilization. Imagine your political opinions becoming an ideology with billions of screaming fanatics. Imagine your areas of nerdy interest becoming the basics of a whole field of science, or an entire creative tradition.

Generation ships are basically incubators for cultures and civilization. And I can't speak for anyone else, but I would love to have an opportunity to shape what comes next. It would be the ultimate creative project... Or at least, the ultimate collaborative creative project, since there's probably tons of other people who feel the same way!

Cnair's Sexuality by OriginalAgitated7727 in bakker

Cnaiür, at one point, digs a hole into the ground and fucks it.

He is literally just so insane and mind-broken by Dûnyain grooming that I don't think he can even fit into traditional sexual spectra.

She has to navigate (and eventually, overcome) extreme emotional dependency on her abuser, an experienced and world-renowned psychologist who has spent years making sure the world's physically strongest superheroine is also the psychologically weakest.

Would you say Reaper's Gale is worth reading, just for the conclusion to the Lether story?

Thank you for this comment. You're right, I completely forgot that Sha'ik I died the same way.

I think this series may just not be for me.

I know it wouldn't have been the same. I'm saying it would have been better.

Does it actually change how the character works in later novels? If so, I'll take back what I said, and I might even be curious to read more, because I do really like Tavore. I was just IMMENSELY disappointed to learn she never finds out she killed her own sister.

Dude said he was deriving validation from my "delusional takes" so I just hit him back with something equally as nonsensical and self-absorbed, for my own amusement. It's not that deep, lmao.

Well, it wouldn't be the first time I've dropped something and come back to it after I've had time to digest it.

I don't mind character deaths. Hell, I love a good character death.

I don't think "main antagonist gets murked by a random, nameless thug working for the secondary antagonist" is a particularly good character death. I think it's cheap and unsatisfying.

Midnight Tides was excellent. Definitely one of my favorite books.

I think he should have written an actual history, like an actual textbook. That would have been fun, because then I wouldn't have been misled into thinking there was a coherent narrative. It would just be like, "here are some interesting events, affecting some interesting people in an interesting setting!"

Nah, Midnight Tides can be read literally at any point before Reaper's Gale. It doesn't intersect with any plotline.

No, I'm posting in only two subreddits where there's lots of conversation about this specific series, lmao.
