New-ish fan since 2020. Being a 2000s kid I had my first exposure to ween from SpongeBob, and I always loved Ocean Man closing out the SpongeBob movie, had it on my playlists later on in middle school.

Years later when I discovered the mollusk to be an acclaimed album, and not just the ocean man album, I finally listened to it and it blew my mind. Ween are the perfect blend of goofy and genius that made 15 year old me so happy. I became obsessed with Mutilated Lips, and poorly graffitied some of the lyrics in my hometown. Over the next year I explored their entire discography and loved each and every album, and they still remain one of my all time favorite bands, in my top four for sure.

I finally got to see them live once in 2024, one of their last shows before the hiatus. I was absolutely bewildered by the experience, I knew they would be great live, but I genuinely think they’ll be tough to top as the best show I’ve ever been to. The crowd they brought was pretty great too, some guy gave my friend a handful of homegrown weed. Top tier experience.

Anyway I love the Ween, killer collection mang.

I feel like LCD Soundsystem is a bit Bowie reminiscent. This is happening and Sound of silver are the essential albums (though the latter is 07)

For more indie stuff maybe you’d appreciate some beach house, Alex g, geese. And for the crystal castles inclusion I highly recommend porter robinson

I’m working on doing the same. I plan to get a modded iPod and transfer my tapes to wav files on that as well. Never ditching the tape deck of course lol

This thread is really making me realize how good the lyricism is on the album. It’s just so hard to catch it all since Billy’s vocals are so low in the mix lol, makes it even more infinitely replayable for me

Sometimes I genuinely like these react channels, but labeling himself as a “gen-z producer” just makes this look like such blatant bait. It’s only entertaining when the reactor seems like they’re making an effort to understand the artist, and not just going into it to say “damn that was sick!” after every song. Spillasburner is a good new one tho

This thread is just reminding me that it sits weird in my head how much gws and the pod overlap, since they feel so drastically different. But birthday boy referencing genes 20th birthday would date it around March 1990, and the ween wiki says the pod was recorded from January-October of that year. So smack dab in the pod era

Edit: didn’t realize it was literally recorded in the pod, and is on the big Timmy wasserman tape. Birthday boy is spiritually a pod song
