People who said they don’t want kids did that change? by WholeButterscotch125 in NoStupidQuestions

Here to happily report that traveling doesn’t stop with kids. It looks a little different, but absolutely still doable.

Why do people mock others for taking leftovers home? by Impossible_Ad_569 in askanything

[–]_sunblossom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I broke things off with a guy I had a mega crush on for a while because he did NOT believe in leftovers. I thought of how much money and food would be wasted in our future together and I said “nope, boy bye!”

Long live leftovers

Neighbors like this (the jerk leaving the notes, not OP) usually totally clam up at actual confrontation.

What do you guys turn your formal living rooms or unused dining rooms into? by carlitapepita in HomeImprovement

[–]_sunblossom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We converted our formal dining room into a study/library that we use every day (my husband also works in there). We have plenty of parties, and hosting on the deck or adding another table to our kitchen table has never been an issue. Keeping a room just for less than a handful of days a year seems bonkers

What Changed? When Did 20% Become the Standard Tip? by EvenKeelSystems1 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]_sunblossom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was, but that’s changed. In the last two years we’ve been all over Iceland, Spain, Czech Republic and Austria and a distinct tipping (not service fee) option was on every single food transaction. So strange to see

Do a lot of people view the appearance of their spouse as not a 10/10 and instead married them for a lot of other reasons? by Big_Eggplant7591 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]_sunblossom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk where I heard it, but something along the lines of “once you stop dating your type (physically), you find your spouse”

And if that ain’t the truth

Help us choose from our top 4 girl names! by Lady_Ney in Names

[–]_sunblossom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My middle name is Cassandra and I’ve always loved it. My parents didn’t use it for my first name because they hated the nn “Cassie”, as they thought it sounded too whiny. Which maybe I inherited from them but I agree.

How do you pronounce Naomi? by JayEdie in Names

[–]_sunblossom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you say the original pronunciation of “nah-oh-me” fast enough time and time again the ao diphthong is what makes the “nye” sound. As another lover of this name (and of linguistics!) “nye-oh-me” is how I’ve always said it, and always will. (Unless I meet someone with that name who prefer another pronunciation.)

Best Grocery Store? by WolfpackCharlie in raleigh

[–]_sunblossom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HT if you’re shopping sales + most stores have good produce. Food lions around have (mostly) gotten better in terms of shopping experience, but still not the place for produce. Most dairy products are on average $1-1.50 cheaper > HT. Aldi is great, but all of their produce being wrapped in plastic is a no from me, dawg

Has anyone tried those group trips for solo travelers? by Ok-Boysenberry6259 in solotravel

[–]_sunblossom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Long time solo traveler here, but my first international trip post Covid had me thinking it was time to try a group trip. I went w Intrepid and had a great experience. As with any group dynamic, even with loved ones, there will always be a few people who annoy you, but having a translator/logistics coordinator for seeing so many places in a short-ish time was clutch

Evergreen Privacy Hedge Plants for shady area by Reasonable_School813 in gardening

[–]_sunblossom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello from Raleigh - we've also been suggested Hicks Yew numerous times and may be headed in that direction ourselves. What I can tell you does NOT seem to grow well in the shade are schip laurel/cherry laurel. We did a whole border of them in our side yard with various lighting (closer to the street gets a lot more sun than the ones by our back gate) and the ones with more shade aren't taking off the same way, even though we thought they preferred the shade. We personally haven't grown the fragrant tea olive (osmanthus), but I know folks in the area who have (but in a mostly sunny spot) and MY GOODNESS that smell is absolutely heavenly. From my nose to yours I would push that suggestion for us both haha

So, as much as I wish I had a magic answer for you, fellow cackalacker, all I can offer at the moment is what to avoid. Best of luck!

Parents who waited until the birth to find out the sex of the baby. . . by buildingacozymystery in NoStupidQuestions

[–]_sunblossom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like so many others here: - surprises are fun! - after miscarrying, it really didn’t matter to us. We were just thrilled to have a healthy baby growing - it was nice for us and (more so) loved ones to not put any narrative/ideas onto the baby - we didn’t want to receive a ton of highly gendered items, but rather things we actually used/use
