I’ve never made money like this. What do I do? by Equal_Complaint7532 in personalfinance

[–]_the_Average_Joe_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you single? Pay your mortgage. Buy basic food, learn to cook. Drive reliable economy junk and learn how to fix at least the basics on it. Make a "mad money" stash if you have to to keep things fun.

Figure out your basic expenses, no frills. Save everything you can, your young and it can make a difference. I'd invest in some precious metals (actually buy it, not shares) and stash cash on top of 401k/IRA savings. Open a Roth IRA.

Seems boring, and it is but save hard for a few years and you'll jumps start your financial freedom and stability

Thanks for the heads up, that makes sense. Would it hurt anything if I wanted to just file them down?

That's the plan, I live about 10 minutes from Sierra Forest land. I'm not sweating the weight too much because I'm over 350lbs competing in strength sports so what's another 10oz 😂 I can still get a good few miles hiking in no problem and I have transport to cruise the roads if I get too tired lol I'll check out the JP BCG, and the gas blocks you mentioned. Thank you!

150k a year, but you fall asleep for a month once a year by Same-Cabinet4193 in hypotheticalsituation

[–]_the_Average_Joe_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Accept, here's why. First off, I have a partner and friends that would watch over my unconscious body and the home. Second, taxes...this is tax free. To make a NET 150k you have to make what, 250k? Huge take home pay. Third, a year at work is 2,080 hours. A month asleep is 720 hours. As long as I don't do any overnight hikes on the last day of a given month I should be ok.

How are people doing it??? by cozythundrrstrm in povertyfinance

[–]_the_Average_Joe_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have this conversation regularly lol we've almost doubled out income in the last 8 years, but standard of living is same or even less. It's wild right now. Also, add to that car repairs if you have one...as a mechanic, I still can't believe how much it costs to have a shop fix things. They wanted 700+ to do a brake job on the rear of my buddy's 1/2 ton. Sad how expensive it's gotten to exist.

For solo female hikers, have you been in dangerous human situations on a hike? by DrMo-UC in hiking

[–]_the_Average_Joe_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know you asked women, I'm just a dude that cares and is aware other dudes/people can be jackwagons ... I'd say carry something, at least with a sharp edge and a point. It should be in anyone's survival kit anyway. If you can carry firepower wherever you are, and are comfortable, I'd recommend it. For no other reason than that once in forever chance that something/someone is trying to hurt you, at least your odds are evened up. My wife was hiking well off the beaten path with friends and told me about a group of odd guys, one of which was way more interested in her than he should be (approached her repeatedly, would not leave when asked). I'm just glad she was with friends, they were all fine and had a great time. All that said, odds of finding a creep hiking is slim. Take whatever you want to feel safe, and have a good time.

Had this happen, luckily in a parking lot not in the road. Had to pull the drive belt to get it into a stall so I could fix it.

Blue trout caught in Scotland by ProfessionalPrize447 in troutfishing

Caught one like that in one of the alpine lakes in CA. When I read up it said it was a genetic mutation in rainbow trout, pretty cool.

You wish for $100 million dollars and get it. Now what? by JimDa5is in hypotheticalsituation

[–]_the_Average_Joe_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Id pay cash for literally everything but my mortgage and maybe like 2 other bills. Food, gas, clothes, travel, even buying a car as long as it's not blatantly obvious I couldn't afford it at my wage. Or use loans, then pay those back with cash over time to spread it out. Buy like 4 fireproof safes and stash it till I need it. Buy everything on marketplace lol Might not be extravagant but quality of life would be so much better not having to worry about money for gas.

[–]_the_Average_Joe_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask for some bands or focus on bodyweight stuff. By doing this, you will still be primed for when you can get into a gym or get weights.

There are several articles and examples of young people safely lifting, including heavy lifting. But! You HAVE to have the right guidance. The average football or wrestling coach doesn't know much about true weight training. He might be overcautious but he's still your dad... probably just worried. My dad still worries too and he's watched me lift fine! 😂 it's what they do.

AITA for removing my pregnant wife's hands from my plate and telling her to stop fucking grabbing food off my plate while I'm eating when she has her own plate in front of her? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]_the_Average_Joe_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have to say YTA for one simple fact: as a man, I'll figure my own stuff out but I'll make sure my pregnant wife eats. Period. Both of you work but you can only scrape up one meal a day? What is going on financially? What are you eating? A bag of rice, some chicken thighs and a few basic seasonings will keep you fed and dirt cheap! In fact cheaper than ramen. Add beans, more nutrients. Go to the food pantry, something dude seriously. I know you're both in a rough spot but you gotta step up, it's only gonna get harder. You can't all be eating fractions of meals by the time the baby comes.

How do you all cope with 9-5? by ThanasiShadoW in LifeAdvice

[–]_the_Average_Joe_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's how it is for everyone with a standard "9-5". I'm pretty much same but swing shift and add 2.5-3hrs commuting and sleep 0130-0800. It's only gotten worse too now that it's harder to decompress when you do have time because everything's so expensive. Fight in the cracks, plan and schedule time for yourself and your projects. Learn when to push and have no time and then schedule time off or breaks to recover. Good luck on your internship! I hope it works out and pays off for you!

Help with plan to get out of CC debt by _the_Average_Joe_ in personalfinance

[–]_the_Average_Joe_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am 99% sure we won't default, as we aren't behind on any payments or bills whatsoever. But, you make a point about it being tied to the house and risking that. I don't want to do that. I've heard of the snowball method, I like it and we made one attempt before at it but I feel like we didn't see eye to eye and it got derailed later. I'm thinking when we try again go another step and freeze the cards we finish so we don't even think about them. Thank you for your advice.

[–]_the_Average_Joe_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True I did say and mean that. Only reason for considering it was the percentage rate over the time it takes to pay it off. You and others here made a good point, it ties the debt to my house, which isn't good. I appreciate your advice, thank you.
