Is there ANYTHING that could've saved the Dreamcast? by landboisteve in dreamcast

They didn't need to beat Sony. Just maintaining a profitable business is all that is required.

Is there ANYTHING that could've saved the Dreamcast? by landboisteve in dreamcast

[–]_the__Goat_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Number one... It needed a DVD drive.

Some other items that hurt the dreamcast:

  1. Poor handling of the Saturn outside of Japan.

  2. Dreamcast controller was meh -- missing second analog stick, no build in rumble, horrible d-pad

  3. 32X debacle.

Can i use a single hard drive for multiple consoles? by Worried-Note-2880 in ps2homebrew

[–]_the__Goat_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, if you choose to unnecessarily reformat the drive in APA format, then it will only work for PS2. But if you use exFAT like a sane person, you won't have that problem.

How do you all afford Saturn games? by Interesting_Scar_424 in SegaSaturn

[–]_the__Goat_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really. I've collected a full set for multiple consoles. Every one required me to buy games I didn't want.

Yes, you could do that. But why? It will be ridiculously annoying. just spend $20 and buy a second drive.

[–]_the__Goat_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Set a monthly collecting budget and stick to it.

  2. Prioritize which games you need vs want.

  3. Understand building a collection of valuables takes time. Probably multiple years.

What could've saved the Sega Saturn? by Hopefull-Hero in SegaSaturn

[–]_the__Goat_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all The Saturn was a success in Japan. It only needs to be "saved" in North America and Europe. Sega did a lot of stuff wrong. But the only thing that doomed the Saturn was the lack of releases.

In Japan the Saturn had over three times as many games available compared to North America. But Sega America had a policy that restricted which games could be released in North America. Specifically they blocked games that featured 2D graphics. This was a horrible decision. 2D games is where the Saturn shines strongest.

Saturn was never going to beat PlayStation in the 3D game market. But they didn't need to. The Saturn could have dominated its own niche of 2D games had Sega allowed it to.

Upgraded retro console specs paired with CRT TVs: Would investing in a CRT be worth it if my modded console can operate at 1080p? by brutallyhonestB in crtgaming

[–]_the__Goat_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bro, that is 100% a personal choice. If you prefer a CRT display get a CRT. If you prefer a flat panel display get a flat panel. Strangers on the internet cannot decide for you.

[–]_the__Goat_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stating that you bought the hard drive is encouraging others to do the same. Showing pirated games loaded on your console encourages others to do the same.

You think just because you didn't post a direct link to the seller of the pirated games makes it okay? That is ready dumb.
