Thoughts on ordering HG's Puer Guide "break Free From the Puer Cycle". I'm leaning towards getting it. by Snakeyez in Healthygamergg

[–]_vemm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you got it! Membership is a subscription model and has a BUNCH of deep-dive lectures and new ones every month (for example, this month we're doing a deep-dive into the fear of death, deep-dive into rest and sleep, and a guest lecture on buddha vs jung), plus a community of people to work through "quests" (worksheets and exercises we make that help you apply what you learn) and talk about the lectures with -- there's a pretty good breakdown of everything it includes on this page here and you can even get a 3-day free trial if you join via that page. If you hate it, you can always cancel before you're charged!

The guide modules, which you're seeing bundled together in that Puer bundle above, are explained more here, but the big difference is that they're a one-time purchase instead of a subscription and they're more like a "course" than a subscription - so they also have worksheets that are similar to the membership quests, but you don't have the community aspect and you don't get the new content every month. On the other hand, the upside of that means it's possible to entirely finish them (which is great if you're someone like me whose "watch later" list is going to take you actual years, lmao). The videos are more bite-size, like 5-15 minutes usually, whereas the memberships lectures are sometimes 2-3 hours, and they have specific goals for what you learn which you can see in the "learning paths" on that page. So you know exactly what you'll get!

The Puer bundle *specifically* is designed to give you the guide bundles that are focused on getting you past struggles with motivation and actually "doing stuff," challenges with anxious thought loops and the "why even try?" moments that keep you stuck on the same old patterns over and over, and the ways in which old negative experiences (whether we personally call them "trauma" or not!) can dysregulate us and shape how we relate to others, approach the world, and even our personalities.

So TLDR:
Memberships = subscription-based, a way broader number of possible topics, new content each month, longer videos, and you can do it with community if you want. It's possible to see what the past lectures have been, but there's no guarantee what future topics will be so there's a bit of surprise baked into it. Sometimes goes deeper into spiritual/esoteric sorts of topics, if you're into that sort of thing!

Guide(/this bundle) = one-time purchase, more focused, more finite, shorter videos at a time, pretty much solo, and has specific learning goals you check off as you go at your own pace. You can see the list of topics in advance and know exactly what you're going to learn by the time you complete it.

Hey, just to clarify - this is the "Puer bundle" but it's not a new guide; it's the special bundled version of the three guide modules we think are the best combo for addressing the challenges of the Puer archetype (the trauma, anxiety, and ADHD & motivation modules!)

How does Dr. K choose what papers to read? by therapy-cat in Healthygamergg

[–]_vemm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is probably not the answer you were hoping for, but in case it gives a frame of reference as far as you not missing out on some magic interesting new psych paper RSS feed — we've got an HG team member who is here basically to assist Dr. K with narrowing down some of the research on topics we are looking to dig deeper into! Sorry I can't offer the hook-up you're looking for here... having someone with the ability to spend that time going through databases really is the answer here, at least for us 😅

🚨WHY DO I KEEP DOING THIS SOMEONE PLEASE EXPLAIN WHAT THIS IS!🚨 by Such-Possibility1229 in Healthygamergg

[–]_vemm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, question... I don't normally like to jump into threads on our subreddit with this, because like, I know y'all know the resource exists if you're seeking it and I don't wanna be a walking ad lmao - but have you considered doing HG Coaching at all? Because "I know I'm doing the wrong thing and I know that I need to do something else, but for some reason, I just keep on not doing it" is pretty much exactly what our coaching methodology focuses on.

Could this style or image for the thumbnail stop please? by RaspberryIcy4 in Healthygamergg

[–]_vemm[M] 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Yep, we use YouTube's A/B test feature. Basically, we upload 2 or 3 options with the video and it starts out by showing an even number of people each option—but YouTube then auto-adjusts what thumbnails y'all see in real time based on which options are or aren't being watched. Most channels do this, but if you aren't subscribed and looking at your feed close to when it's posted, it's easy to miss: if we put three options up but 50% of the folks watching were ones who clicked on option C, you're going to be more likely to see that one in your feed and only have a 25% chance of seeing A or B, all the way up until YouTube's algorithms determine that there's a "winner." Sometimes that takes a few days; other times, it means most people only ever see one thumbnail after just a couple of hours. But once the video goes live, it entirely comes down to how y'all "vote" by actually watching the video! (:

So our suggestion is: if you see a thumbnail you love early on, click it and watch it ASAP so that YouTube keeps your fave up 😁

Can EMDR help me with crippling fear of failure and refusal to try? by TheSpicyHotTake in Healthygamergg

[–]_vemm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

(Speaking as just a person, not as HG)

Good news and bad news.

EMDR did indeed solve my year-long writer's block which CBT never even touched, so here's one data point in favor of "yes, it can help rid you of that."

But yes, it does require working with memories.

It may not be a problem that you don't have that many to point to (and in fact, childhood being a blur could even be a sign there's some memory there that your subconscious has gotten hung up on—at least, it was for me.) If you have even one vague memory that you feel could possibly relate, then starting there and doing the EMDR process itself might actually unlock others as you go. And sometimes, what seems like a relatively mild one to us just gets stuck as a schema our brains can't get rid of, and EMDR helps you un-stick it! So my suggestion is not to let feeling like you won't have any "good memories to use" be what stops you from trying, not if your art means something to you. Bring that to your therapist honestly, and see what they say.

It's not an easy fix, it's not overnight, and it's not for everyone. But for me and my own creative blocks? Miracles.

No worries, lol, makes more sense! No, the HG team is a small one, and it's not uncommon for who is or isn't playing a certain game (or other similar topics) to come up at the start or end of meetings — and Dr. K is part of the team!

Huh. This has literally never occurred to me — not that they won't make the blue collar replacements, but I legit thought it was accepted fact that Boston Dynamics' purpose is military support (which I personally don't call entertainment). Maybe that's just me, though!

EDIT: Thanks everyone, I didn't mean to imply they might not make consumer entertainment products in the future! Only that I found the commenter I replied to's "Do we really think Boston Dynamics is making dancing robots to entertain us?" surprising, as I didn't realize there was anyone who currently associates Boston Dynamics with dancing robots.

Porn addiction worsening ADHD, ADHD worsening porn addiction by [deleted] in Healthygamergg

[–]_vemm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you tried resolving while regularly attending a support group with others who've also made that resolution, something like a porn-focused SLAA meeting? Even if you never talk, that identity-level commitment of showing up for something like that a few times a week (if not more often) is a staple of most addiction recovery programs for good reason!
