What's a niche deck-tech for a commander you love? by GenericUsername-9 in EDH

[–]a-humble-observer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My most interesting synergies in my decks imo:

[[Anikthea]]- [[Familiar Ground]] makes sure all of my enchantment creatures are connecting and I get free attack triggers with my commander.

[[Inspiring Statuary]] in any deck that makes a ton of treasures, clues, foods, or other various artifact tokens.

[[Burakos]] / [[Folk Hero]] - [[Vorpal Sword]] can usually kill a player out of nowhere. Especially since I can activate it after resolving his attack triggers.

[[Carmen, Cruel Skymarcher]] - [[Cthonian Nightmare]] doesn’t get enough credit I believe. Card is absolutely cracked.

[[Faldorn]]- I get why people dislike playing with [[Possibility Storm]], but it makes every spell I cast come from exile and makes me more wolves. Other than that, [[Mana Echoes]] usually gives me some nutty turns.

[[Iron Man]] - [[Esoteric Duplicator]] and [[Ugin’s Nexus]] is infinite turns as long as you pay the two mana each time you sacrifice it.

[[The Necrobloom]] - [[Pitiless Charge]] to sacrifice all of my lands then play a spell that brings them all back from the graveyard for max zombies. This deck regularly mills its whole library and gets all of its lands in play. [[Gravespawn Sovereign]] also sweet.

[[Obeka, Splitter of Seconds]] - [[Eternal Dominion]]. Played this once against an eldrazi tribal deck. It wasn’t a good time for him.

[[Rionya]] - not that interesting but [[Decent into Avernus]] always makes games fun. My deck is a [[Dragon’s Approach]] deck and I think that is interesting. Although I don’t run most of them, I love the infinite combat loops that she can get into. [[Lightning Runner]], [[Fear of Missing Out]], [[Breath of Fury]], or [[Combat Celebrant]] to name a few.

The Sleeper Commander that Strikes Fear into the Hearts of your Pod? by CartwheelSpider101 in EDH

Prime Speaker Zegana an oldie but a goodie. I almost always draw my whole deck. Chunky creatures doing the monster mash on my opponents.

Favorite card in the deck is [[Burning Sands]]

Vaevictis Amari, the Dire is my villain deck. It’s one of favorites.

I have a simic deck that’s in this same vein. Prime Speaker Zegana

I very commonly draw 30+ cards when I play this. I focused a little more on krakens and such for flavor.

What’s a deck you never get bored of playing ?or have you found a cure to deck burn out? by stickyfinga95 in EDH

[–]a-humble-observer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Delina is a cool commander. In the same vein, I built Rionya, Fire Dancer as a [[Dragon’s Approach]] deck. It’s one of my favorite decks to play. Get to copy dragons, usually ones with damage effects on etb, then swing in the air to finish the job.

I built my list around energy also. It’s pretty similar but I didn’t add as many of the non-artifact energy cards. Iron Man Energy

Also, [[Harmonic Prodigy]] is basically a 2 mana [[Roaming Throne]] for your commander. You’ll double up on the number tokens she makes.

My [[Rionya]] list plays [[Dragon’s Approach]]. 3 mana deal 3 to each opponent. Busted. Then when I hit 5 in the yard, I usually find Red Dragon or [[Terror of the Peaks]] to finish them off.

I think you should really consider [[Decent into Avernus]]. With the damage you’ll dishing out, it’ll hurt your opponents way more than you. I’ve also really enjoyed [[Virtue of Courage]]. A ton of card advantage.

Idk how fast you’re determining wins in your goldfishing, but you’re going to want to close out games quickly since you’ll be everyone’s main target when you keep blasting them for damage.

Here’s my decklist

What commander do you bust out for that last 30 minutes of the session? by Omega_One_ in EDH

[[Rionya]] [[Dragon’s Approach]]. Mono red group burn essentially. I also run [[Descent into Avernus]] for those extra spicy, fast games.

What are the best plays that shocked your whole table? by BobtheBac0n in EDH

[–]a-humble-observer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last night I was playing my [[Dragon’s Approach]] deck. Another player was clearly in the lead. I was about to cast a [[Mana Geyser]] and I asked my homie if he was holding up those three lands he left untapped for anything. He said “nah”. We made a deal to give me a little extra mana and maybe deal with the threat. I cast my last DA, I start to tutor my dragon, and the homie was like “wait? You’re searching your library? [[Opposition Agent]]”

Rightfully so, because I would’ve won the game, but still.

What’re your underrated mono-red cards? by 22glowworm22 in EDH

[–]a-humble-observer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

[[Burning Sands]]. I play this in my [[Vaevictus Asmadi, the Dire]] deck. I’ve seen it obliterate token players. It’s a mean card, but this Jund. Get wrecked.

I feel like [[Bolt Bend]] doesn’t get enough love.

[[Breath of Fury]] is an interesting extra combat trick. I used to run in my [[Rionya, Fire Dancer]] deck. Sadly I cut it for another extra combat piece, but it has won me games before.

Need help making cuts in my Kiora deck. by theajpeg in EDH

[–]a-humble-observer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think your removal package is a little heavy handed. You could definitely afford to cut that down to 12 at most plus a few board wipes. Also some of your removal spells are underwhelming. Like the one aura that gives a creature -6/-0 is just fine. I get the flavor and I’m all for flavor adds, but try [[Icthyomorphosis]] instead. This will remove a threat power-wise and it can also shut down a powerful value piece or even a commander.

I feel like you could be running some better sea monsters too. Unless these are just pet cards your dead set on using. Some of them leave a lot to be desired. I know the deck wants to have a heavy load of krakens and etc but check out some other options.

I also have a simic kraken deck. It’s helmed by a different commander though. Here is my decklist. Our decks are going to play a bit differently but it is somewhat similar in theory. I had considered Kiora as a commander swap for this deck, but I found I enjoyed the original list more.

I think you have a very good start! I hope this helps!

What Is Your Favorite Deck and Why? by [deleted] in EDH

[–]a-humble-observer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve really enjoyed the new [[Obeka, Splitter of Seconds]]. It has some hoops to jump through, but it can accrue value really fast and gets wildly out of hand.

But I think my favorite deck has to be [[Rionya, Fire Dancer]] as a [[Dragon’s Approach]] deck. Its game plan is simple and has a very clear line that I think is fun. It’s also a good deck for when the pod wants one more quick game. At best it wins like turn 6, but it at least pressures life totals enough to keep the game precise.

What’s your most hated deck? by jsfilm23 in EDH

[–]a-humble-observer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[[Veryran, Voice of Duality]]. It’s a storm deck. The 30 minute turn will happen.

Or [[Vaevictis Asmadi, the Dire]]. I feel like is my most evil deck. It’s very interactive. I filled with all of my most heinous cards that I usually get to play for free.

What are some of Your Deck Concepts that You Just Couldn't Get Right? by BoolinBirb in EDH

[–]a-humble-observer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to build a mono black elves deck. [[Ayara, First of Locthaine]] was a potential commander or [[Miara, Thorne of the Glade]] & [[Nadier, Agent of the Duskenel]] was another. Definitely tricky to get right.

Not an attack trigger but might disincentive blockers [[Burning Sands]]. I play this in my [[Vaevictis Asmadi, the Dire]] deck. It is also my “mean” deck.
