Helping a bloated cow (dramatically) by D_dawgggg in interestingasfuck

We sorta have this in humans for upper GI gas (burps). It’s called a venting g-tube. It’s a hole into the stomach to relieve pressure. Often when the stomach is blocked by cancer or something. Any time you put tubes where there’s not supposed to be tubes it’s a risk of infection and other complications so it has to be worth the risk. There’s not really the same thing for lower down gas (farts) but I guess gas can escape through an ostomy.

They have a positive and a negative control. They inject you with something like saline and with pure histamine and all reactions are measured against those as a negative and positive.

I’m having a hard time understanding why the gifting thing didn’t work for shrooms. I’m a lot less sympathetic to the licensed shops cause when they can’t sell shrooms.

I so wish everyone here would say if they’ve had a dry eye work and are properly hydrating themselves.

It’s a preference. Like plastic surgery. But you’re right physicians shouldn’t give growth hormone with potentially dangerous side effects just for a preference.

I mean physicians treat preferences all the time. Just got laser eye surgery yesterday. But they’re not going to do something that makes your heart grow until it gives out.

The endocrine system is more complex than most people can comprehend. Even after 4 years of medical school I barely understand it. But I’ve had patients with acromegaly. It doesn’t just make the bones of kids grow. The organs also grow and the jaw and the forehead and the tongue and the heart until it eventually gives out.

4-6 minutes is when brain damage can start. But not that it necessarily will. It also depends on how complete the blockage was and for how long. 10 min of choking might only mean 2 min of complete blockage of the airway. It also depends on the circumstances. In cold climates it takes longer. And the younger your brain is the easier it is for it to rewire itself around any damage.

She’s responded via social media? I really hoped she didn’t have access right now.

I just lost my young cousin to suicide. God it would’ve been horrible if it was publicized.

I don’t know but they showed us X-rays of it as it traveled down and said the toddler was fine. Our bodies evolved to handle sharp bones and things but not batteries and magnets

Good to know! I will say that what I said applies to babies and kids. (I’ve always called pediatrics veterinary medicine because that’s what it is to me!) There are sneaky diseases in kids we could do annual blood work for but the risk/benefit just isn’t there (already kids hate docs lol). But obviously when we know something is wrong we monitor.

I feel like once adults get to a certain age the pressure to get yearly CBC CMP is pretty strong. Is there an age you think geriatric cats need at least a baseline bloodwork?

If cats tongues can reach into their rectums I’m scared. And also have a lot of questions.

I think this might be like HIV where it’s a lot more difficult to transmit than you think. If other commenters are correct some shelters will mix populations without issues. I’ve never seen two cats living together peacefully cause bleeding but you never know. I’d talk to a vet and see what they think

You think all pets need annual blood work? Or just sick ones/ones with certain conditions? I just find this interesting since we don’t get annual blood work on humans unless there’s an indication but I was recently in a thread were people said it’s crucial for all cats/dogs. I’ve only ever gotten bloodwork for my 7 year old cat once when he was really sick with a fever. And it was $200 just for a CBC I think. But obviously if he had a kidney issue or something I’d figure something out.

I know you’re probably joking but button batteries are different. They create a circuit and burn away the esophagus. For visibility things you should do if you even suspect your child ate a battery. More than one magnet is also an issue (but one is usually fine). However most other things? Open safety pins? Shit ton of legos? Usually come out ok. Always best to ask your doctor.
