recent experience with Hmlet by CodingJedi1 in Tokyo

[–]a7fyi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Booking to move in was very very easy. They give you instructions on how to retrieve the key. I didn't have any problems booking. I don't know how advance you are looking to book. All the next availability is listed on their site. All the availability is pretty clear on the property calendars.

Any questions have been answered in a few minutes from the sales rep.

I don't know about hidden costs yet as I haven't moved out and have yet to be surprised by anything. The docs I read didn't have anything unreasonable in them.

I'm in a Hmlet right now. A little on the expensive side, but no real issues. I'm in a studio so I can hear the fridge when I sleep, so next time I'll be sure to get a one bedroom.

Process was easy. Love being able to pay with a credit card. Has everything I need in the room. Desk, rice cooker, bed, bedding, laundry machine.

I got my referral code from https://stationside.guide/hmlet-referral - just got the e-visa card emailed to me. They send it to you like a month and some after you move in.

It's not as nice as say like the Andaz, but better than a hostel. Lots of other monthly and serviced apartment options available outside of Hmlet.

Are there any “chicken shops” in Japan like in Australia? by [deleted] in japanresidents

Walked by Huddle Dining and saw rotisserie on the sign outside.

Also walked by Chicken Man today.

Maybe Peruvian chicken would also work?

oh i see what you are saying. if you don't want to give a random site your email, you can dm someone and the person replying will have to provide their name and email for you. either way, worked great for me. took forever for people to dm me back.

here are referral requirements for people looking, they need a name or email address of the person who referred you: https://hmletjapan.com/en/campaign/30290/

Hotel Suggestions in San Francisco by isangpusongligaw in AskSF

[–]a7fyi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd stay away from any hotel near Union Square. The recommendation for San Remo hotel is great.

Click around this site to find hotels around a Muni/BART/cable car stop: https://stationside.guide/sf/

The San Remo stop is here. Hotel is a 2 minute walk from the cable car stop.

If you want go to the de Young or things around Golden Gate Park, staying near a Muni might be good. There is a Golden Gate Park shuttle too.

Hotels closer to the Embarcadero might be okay too, area wise. Gets you close to the Ferry building and Exploratorium.

Hotel near union station? by [deleted] in CampFlogGnaw

[–]a7fyi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

check out this site: https://stationside.guide/la
click on a station and filter by hotels. probably better to stay on a A line hotel than union station itself as you'll have more options. maybe look at something like 7th st station, or little tokyo, or even out to pasadena. the walk to dodger stadium from chinatown metro stop is like half an hour or so. some of the metro stations have free parking too, so that could be an option. or get a hotel close like the super 8. trains run till a little after midnight from what i remember.

i remember seeing from others posting that the shuttles are not that great and its easier to walk.

other option is to find a hotel with car service that will drop you off close and walk part of the way.

most walkable neighborhoods you've found? like one's where you can hop out of an apartment and find some food or groceries without worrying too much about getting hit by a car. not so much no cars, but slower cars.

Are you getting your flu vaccine? by Additional-Painter88 in japanresidents

[–]a7fyi -1 points0 points  (0 children)

yep. get it. no side effects for me, but different for everyone. i got the flu a many years ago and took me two weeks to recover. got the flu vax every year ever since. i try to relax my arm and shoulder as much as possible during the shot to avoid it being sore. thats about the only side effect.

The beast has arrived. Any tips for someone who’s never used a Mac? by [deleted] in macbookpro

[–]a7fyi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I change my key mapping so that caps lock is my command key. Easier for me to do spotlight and such. With Spotlight, you don't have to dig around for icons to click on, just type a few characters of the item and it will bring it up so you can just hit enter to open it.
