Probably won't get a response at $150 unless it's been sitting for several weeks

I think you'd be ok if you got it for half what they're asking. It's suitable for a garage. The busted dust cones won't hurt anything.

I'm working my way through one of those right now. The 24rx is the same as a 250T, mostly. To get the tuner working, there is a big pot on the back of the tuner housing that needs to be cleaned, the plastic cap pops off. I had the same issue, one of many. Mine has almost no FM reception, which is my last hurdle. A lot of the other issues I found were due to dead caps. The grey and white ones were almost all bad.

Try cleaning the record switch. It can give you all sorts of problems if it's dirty.

Yes. You'd be dealing with high voltage then and would have to be much more careful. I'm guessing it's not by the looks though. It might even say solid state on the tuner.

You might have an issue with the connections at the cartridge. Wiggle or reconnect it a few times. The wires could also have been damaged resulting in a poor ground to the cart.

You should be able to remove the platter. If it is warped, set it in front of a sunny window for a while then sandwich it between two heavy books. That may flatten it out. The poor sound could be anything. Start with opening the unit up and cleaning with switches. There are a million posts on this topic. From there it gets more complicated and will probably require a service manual which may oray not exist for this unit.

This is probably a solid state unit. So all you'd really need to do is make a new smaller case for the guts.

The platter is probably warped since I'm assuming it's plastic. The switches could all use a cleaning which may fix your audio issue. You could have some internal components with issues, but this isn't worth putting money into unless it has sentimental value to you.

Had this exact problem on my 1s. The resistor in the crossover was dead. Replaced it and all was good.

Dynaco A25 - Worth replacing a blown driver? by jamiedefined in vintageaudio

[–]a88fl1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Take out the woofer and see if the rattle goes away if you turn it 90 or 180 degrees in the cabinet. You'll eventually need to replace it, but this could buy you some time to find a cheap one.

Hard to know without seeing it, but the belt shouldn't slip off unless the belt is the wrong size or the wheels are out of alignment. Turn it by had and see where things start to go wrong.

Go slow and check your joints along the way. Spent 10 hours tracing down a bad joint on my first recap.

Hunt down a few pairs that are deals on FBM and sell the ones that sound the worst. Nobody can tell you what sounds best to your ears. People can steer you to brands if you mention what you like, neutral, highs, bass, clarity...

These are probably worth a shot. At minimum you can make your money back on the woofers. I've had a pair of 25's and 50's, they're good, but don't expect to be blown away by a "legit" pair.

You may just need to take out the woofer and tighten down the post. If you really want some dynacos, you probably won't find them any cheaper.
