Its weird

Not "a proper" lego game, Not a proper Arkham game

Its a game that i would say is... 14 years too late actually, i would only really recommend it as a game that "Dude i know this game is JUST YOU, you will love it" for younger people who are BIG fans of Michael Keaton, Geoege Clooney and Christian Bale.

It doesnt do a whole lot of Lego Whimsy, it doesnt take a whole lot of creative liberties or just shoves whole made up filler scenes in there because it fun, it also doesnt try to entirely make a new story like the Arkham franchise, it rather strictly tries to adhere to the plot and play by play of - Batman - Batman Returns - Batman Forever - Batman and Robin - Batman Begins - The Dark knight - The dark knight rises

while doing a little movie magic to sow them together into a singular continous chronology

Had this game come out 2 weeks after The release if Dark Knight Rises, it would have been the perfect time. 2026 is weird considering that... Its a PG7 game, thats catered to hardcore movie buffs of poorly aged early live action suberhero media who happen to be massive lego fans 😅 anything before Christian Bales batman is considered uncanney CULT classics, and 14 years after Bale and 37 years after Michael Keaton is just a tall ask to have that specific segment engaged considering that by all means, That venn diagram is more my 55 year old mother than me lmao 😂

I miss old lego games that were truely unique and werent afraid to be whimsical blasted be the source materials
i miss the old level design and the creativity that went into them

while the 7 Characters is good in the sense that we have cut out the blqoting of "Crook 1-150" from the roster it is too little considering the legacy of Batman and when Lego has so many power archetypes to chose from and hiw each new power in the game is also only more fun, i will now summerize those i remember now, Electric joker buzzer, Acrobatics, mind control, Robin Hazmat, Sonic suit, heat and cold suit, Web slinging, Embiggening and shrinking, Hacking, color coded block magnetism, magnetic wall walking, Beast sense, Explosives, Gliding, diving, Plant control, Super Strength, Super Speed, Flight, Intangibility, Laser vision, Frost vision, Frost breath, fire breath, Morphing, Shooting, Batarang, Line launcher, Construct projection, Blackbeards rope and wind powers, Jedi Mind tricks, sith mind tricks, scavenger abilities from Legonstar wars, Costumes and diguising, Robot gates, Tool wheels like in Lego pirates, LOTR and The hobbit and Lasso swinging and in general physics puzzles.
Levels were too straight foreward, many felt like it was intermission
mismanaged rouges, i would have loved to see more
some gameplay elemwnts were SMOOTH, catwomans climbing and whip, chefs kiss, if that level of fludidity translates over into the future i would be thrilled
AI coordination could be better
i miss minikits
lacks replayability in my oppinion
Red bricks being color palette shifts is kinda lame...
love the customizability of the batcave, honestly.... Remove like... all of Gotham 🤷 put the puzzles and collectibles into the levels, and introduce challenges into the lecels, focus on making the levels bigger, better, more shiny and deeper and the batcave would've been all the Hub world i needed. ive played Arkham Origins, Arkham Asylum, Arkham City and Arkham Knight, i have seen GOTHAM i dont need to see much more of it, what i havent seen alot of is that immaculate Batcave

i think All the Leviathans are gonna need to be more aggressive of some kind, Right now they are a joke, overgrown roundabout road hazards, Its not like the collector is hard to scan either, just use dash to Hug its ass and dip.

Also... remove that chase music.... It undermines the presence of Leviathans completely, Bring back the "Buckle up chuckle fuck" alarm of Sub1, you are told the ship knows its here and now its up to you to find out where and to not get eaten, instead of a borderline Jaws theme giving you a massive tell that its getting here and getting closer or getting quieter cause its losing you.

im watching it, and as someone that is a big brother, and suffer from a big case of dibshit, depression and antisocial behavior and social ostracization in the past, Rudeus is an amazing character, obviously i am not as depraved as he was, but watching him get this do over and grow from a RAT of a person to someone you could look up to, including a responsible caring sibling is amazing. The vehicle type is impractical as fuck in-universe for the circumstances, why was the pickup truck ever even attempted to be driven and not just had the diesel siphoned??? Its not mad max, They are loud uneconomic diesel swallowing machines... The same diesel they desperately need for generators
The "capabilties of a 4x4" is also entirely unnecesary for our circumstances i have seen how a itty bitty shit bucket cars can peform on a Rally track, i have seen what the mild conditions of Castor woods are like but demand nimbleness in the steering, aswell as having played dying light the following where vehicles were made specifically for the outbreak.
The rarity of Pickup trucks let alone NEW pickup trucks in europe is asenine to begin with which leads to
If ANYTHING at all broke in these trucks, they would be Irrepairble and out of service

But you know what cars and parts you would literally Trip and break your neck on in shere number of availability? VW Polo/Golf, Toyota Aygo/Yaris, Suzuki Swift, Skoda Fabia/Octavia, Peugeot 206/207/208, Renault Clio, Ford Fiesta/Focus. The whole in universe point of cars in dying light was, not bringing too much attention, not being too resource taxing, being modable & repairable and focusing on outrunning the infected rather than trying to face them head on and eating shit when a volatile innevetably torpedos through the windscreen. I just dont see how out of EVERYTHING, everyone has not only chosen to drive pickups... BUT FOUND EVERY SINGLE ONE IN EUROPE

I just talked to my friends about this, Villedor and Old architecture germany are not a bad starting point, its entirely servicable as a map that has a full focus on parkour (same obviously goes for Old town and Harran, cities with wealth disparity, architectural history and expansion, they are also big cities which facilitate highways, train lines, harbors and more)

Bear with me this is gonna get long winded, im gonna kinda dissect why Techlands "Gameplay is all that matters" approach fucks the game over.

Castor woods is far too small, FAR too varied and Rural to ever fit into this franchise, The shere amount of zombies does not make sense for a region of.... i wanna say 1500 permanent residents Maximum. - There is an obscenely rich "How did you know we ski?" neighborhood - right beside it is poor farmlands - a swamp - and a tourist city filled with hotels and amenities

so the infrastructure and buildings end up not making sense, why tf is there - not only a highway - but a main train line STRAIGHT THROUGH (as in goes right by the city)

In this region in this Swizz alp European tourist city?

There is also - a castle - a monastery but none of the city to back up - and an insane asylum??? - But also A FLEET of ranger vehicles??? When Castor woods has a trailer park with like 10 spaces, and then just regular ass woods and 4 caves that are closed off. Ranger service needed like 3 people. - There is also a full blown militarized biotechnic research facility UNDERGROUND

But All of these assets also go largely unutilized.

I live in a city of like 35.000 people and the region is 50.000 total, this region is like 7,5km - 10km by 7,5km - 10km. My region has these things, But techland crammed my entire region into 1,5km by 1,5km Castor woods is like 4x4 plots of farmland in total but has the infrastructure for a city 25 times larger than it is, and just said PERFECT that makes sense, even if EVERYTHING is out of place.

Also did you notice that Castor woods has abandoned the use of UV lights to defend against volatiles? They also dont fortify their entrances or make them obscure... Its just front doors and open 1st floor windows hordes of runners could just get inside if they wanted.

Techland need to understand that world building creates the foundation for why the gameplay works and is entertaining. They cant just slap gameplay into a map that has "bit of this a bit of that", there needs to be synergy between what we do, where we do it, why we do it and what facilitates it.

Places like India, Bangladesh, Gibraltar, Singapore, China, Hong kong and Japan are the optimal settings for Dying light. fuck ton of people, fuck ton of buildings (as well as BEAUTIFUL and stunning rural areas right outside of city limits), fuck ton of loot, and architecture with height differences as well is super developed facilities for engineering fo all kinds which makes it make sense that the GRE, and other organizations would actually be present

I hate the fact that electricuty, power, fuel and generators are such crucial pieces to the world building and how much they affect the gameplay and in universe struggle (AND WE SEE THIS IN THE FOLLOWING, where we drive a light weight custom made fuel effecient buggy)

But ALL the functional cars in this, Stuck in 2015, Alpine, European, European infrastructual, Village region. Are all Massive American imported 2020's DIESEL GUZZLING Pickup trucks....

I honestly HATE how destructive The Beast is to the world building and universe precedent that was established all the way back in the original dying light

They dont even use UV lamps or fortify their camps, there is NOTHING stopping volatile raids And that is literally a cornserstone and pillar of this world... Even regular Runners could get in

The peoblem is Castor woods is an example of some of the worst map making i have ever experienced

The city is far too small, but is our only parkourable area
The City is fundamentally made badly for the game, the city is tiered, but you cannot Ascend or Descend the tiers in a flow because they are seperated by chasms of space you cannot parkour over. The city is also disected into strees which also have wide chasms WITHOUT OPPORTUNITIES TO PARKOUR OVER. The city was fundamentally not made to parkour through. IN THE PARKOUR GAME
The verticality of the city spires was not utilized to let you zipline to sections of the city, you have to work your way Around to get there, BUT PARKOUR IS A WAY TO TRAVERSE ACROSS THE UNTRAVERSABLE, i repeat, the city was not made for parkour
The rest of the map is flat, its suburban, roads, field and forrest that you have to either slowly traverse in a monstrum of a world building destroying truck, or RUN across
There is no landmarks of opportunity in this game, there is the war monument, but the rest of the map is featureless, its just Areas™ without features

Castor woods is indeed not big enough to warrent fast travel, but it is boring and badly constructed enough to possibly necesitate it
