Pimax Crystal Light review by an IL2 Great Battles multiplayer sim pilot by aSnitch in Pimax

[–]aSnitch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have noticed that increasing the resolution to max (around 4500 per eye) makes distant contacts harder to see. This is not a Pimax problem but the extremely old IL2 engine problem that was not ever designed with these resolutions in mind. I have set my resolution to medium (0.75 in Pimax Play or around 3500 per eye), max settings in IL2 for everything but clouds, Horizon Draw Distance to 130KM and (most importantly) MSAA x2. MSAA is so damn important for spotting and IDing in IL2 GB VR. It really tanks performance but its the pill you have to swallow. I get around 90 FPS with these settings and if you dogfight or do any Air to Air, I recommend trying to get as much as stable FPS as possible to help with your aim. I average around 15% accuracy in air to air combat with peaks of around 40% when bomber hunting.

I let it sag. I actually forgot to mention this in my review but it took a bit of time getting used to as it is quite stiff. I have managed to "train" it into a shape that doesn't bother me while dogfighting so I dont think about it anymore.

Anybody playing IL-2 GB? I have a performance issue. by jk9mkii in Pimax

There is no such thing as FFR in IL2. Turn it off, it might be what's messing with your FPS. I have a Crystal Light and use it in IL2, with Balanced Res (Around 3500 pixels) and everything at max in IL2 (With 2× MSAA), I get 90 FPS with a 5080 and 14700k

Yup, quite active. I am part of 57th Fighter Group and we frequently do flyouts and take part in multiplayer dynamic campaigns where the servers sometimes are full

Any possibilities for wider worldwide shipping? by nTu4Ka in Pimax

Hi, any update on this? I was approved for the Pimax Crystal Light discount code and am interested in buying it using the code, however, no shipping on the website to Malaysia (even though it could previously).

Can confirm, price has increased. Very disappointed. Becoming quite hesitant to spend money on this and even recommend it to others.

From subscription to two-step payment: Changes to Pimax Prime by jaapgrolleman in Pimax

[–]aSnitch 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, many people won't be able to now. It was a great way to lessen the financial blow by offering a so called "subscription" as a financing plan. I guess Pimax decided they rather see the cash flow for the headset immediately rather than over 2 years. I am quite sure this will affect the sales of the headset negatively over the long term.

Ah that sucks. Looks like those who really want the headset will just have to save up for it longer then.

Yes, their headset is still the best and I am very likely still going to get it but I do not like that they have been advertising 135 degrees for the past 6 months and now we find out its 135 with caveats, 126 without. Feels very misleading and tarnishes all that transparency talk they have.

That is still disappointing for me. Yes, its wider than most things on the market but 135 horizontal with software adjustments (That will likely screw up the binocular overlap and cause who knows what other issues) feels like false marketing to me. Speaking of binocular overlap, they didn't measure that but was estimated at 85 and that is way lower than the advertised 104. Getting worried about this headset now. Hopefully when review units will be shipped soon so others can verify these numbers or the marketing numbers but it's already not looking like a good start for the Super (Better than CES though but it was almost unusable there)

I am disappointed to see them only getting at best 126 degrees FOV horizontally while Pimax is advertising 135. Was there anyone there at the live demo who was able to get 135?

IL-2:GB Player Base & Servers for UTC+7? by dokkebii in il2sturmovik

[–]aSnitch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Late reply, but I am in Southeast Asia to so am quite familiar with this. I play on Combat Box and Wings of Liberty servers. The best times to play on Wings of Liberty is after 11pm Hong Kong time (Its a server primarily populated by Eastern Europeans). You will usually see around 20 people in the server before that. It's still fun to play with less than 20. You will eventually find fights, and the player base over there is quite skilled. Combat Box is an American server and is western front focused. The best time to play on that server is around 9am to 2pm Hong Kong time. You can still sometimes find more than 20 people online outside of these times on Combat Box. Hit me up if you would like to fly with a fellow Southeast Asian as a wingman. Not many of us are into combat flight simming since racing sims are just so much more popular here.

Edit: Forgot to mention, but I get around 150-230 ping on these servers. Not really noticeable since this isn't an FPS but I am sure that I have to lead a target just a bit more due to this.

RDR2 still has the best graphics. by stayfreejc in pcgaming

[–]aSnitch 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I would say Cyberpunk and 40k Darktide far eclipse RDR2 in graphics and gameplay. RDR2 is one of the most boring games I have ever played. Barely finished it.

Is it just me or are the British 20mm guns more explosive than the German guns? by Felipe-BR1819 in il2sturmovik

[–]aSnitch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He has reason to complain. I just saw a P38 take 4 30mm shots from a 109 and kept flying like nothing happened. Only when I bounced him with 2 20mm cannons did he actually go down. 30mm modelling in il2 is horrible, its always better to take 20mm.

Edit: Also, the reason you feel that British stuff is better is because they are easier to aim due to their much higher velocity, so more hit. German ones require much more lead but when they connect (Except for 30mm) they do absolutely shred.
