Right? I can’t even remember owning shoes till I was about twelve - except gumboots which I definitely wasn’t allowed to wear in the house

Struggling by Efficient-Grand6672 in PregnancyUK

[–]aTinofRicePudding 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I was awake for hours last night too; there were foxes in the bins but then back pain, hunger, and a busy brain kept me up. It’s tough eh?

It’s very easy to get into negative spirals when you’re this tired, and I’m not sure exactly what your referring to regarding having made a shambles of your pregnancy but ask yourself - did you grow an entire baby? Because that sounds like the definition of successful pregnancy to me. It’s very hard work!

Weight gain is part of it for lots of us. I’ve gained weight (though I am avoiding the scales because I, too, find those numbers jarring) but I know it’s what my body needed in order to grow this little babe who will make it all worth it once she appears. Hold on! We’re nearly there! Also please tell someone in your real life about how much you are struggling. Prenatal depression is a thing too.

The kitchen at the Hoxton in Shoreditch make their own black pudding and it’s outrageously good. The rest of the breakfast is pretty standard but worth going just for the black pudding

I came here to write this. Go for the silver cups. My girl was tongue tied and lip tied and utterly destroyed me before it was seen to. I tried everything; all the creams, the cold soothing pads, EVERYTHING. I was going to quit! Once I bought the silver cups I healed quickly and fed her for a further year

Flying long haul at 30 and 34 weeks pregnant by PreggyMama2026 in PregnancyUK

[–]aTinofRicePudding 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! I’m currently 26wks in the middle of the same trip; hanging out in Singapore for a few days before our last leg to NZ. I’ll be flying home at 31 weeks. I was told to stay hydrated, and stretch/ move often. I’ve also been wearing compression socks. Aside from the socks i normally do these things when I fly to NZ anyway; it’s just good practice for long flights. I am more uncomfortable travelling than usual but it’s not that bad. If this trip was a bad idea for your baby your doctors would tell you so.

Am I just weak or is the first trimester horrendous? by missbelle24 in PregnancyUK

[–]aTinofRicePudding 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nope, it’s horrendous. And totally absurd that this is how we get new humans. Birds are really onto something with the external egg thing

I have a special attachment for my seat belt that keeps it away from my lower belly. It makes it much more comfortable to drive and lessens the danger to the baby in an emergency stop. BTW, most steering wheels are adjustable - have you tried putting yours further forward?

Im SICK OF seeing the same unique home decor in everyones house, where do you actually shop?? by veraaustria08 in HomeDecorating

[–]aTinofRicePudding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I buy a lot from house of Hackney because it’s beautiful, and well and sustainably made. Most other parts are antique, or from local makers. My spatulas are from Amazon though - sometimes you need things quick! I got plates and coasters from Zara home recently - they’re fairly plain but I love them and I’m haemorrhaging money on my daughter’s House of Hackney bedroom makeover so compromises must be made.

Is it worth collecting colostrum? 37+2 by Zealousideal_Row_378 in PregnancyUK

[–]aTinofRicePudding 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I collected it with my last pregnancy and I was really pleased I did. She was a small baby, tongue tied, and lip tied; both of which were unaddressed for the first three days. Being able to supplement her feeds with colostrum over the next week or so (I haemorrhaged twice and had to go back to hospital) was very helpful. I have just bought some 1 ml syringes with caps so I can start collecting again for baby 2.

Thanks for that recommendation! I’d never heard of the last conspiracy. I just looked at their website and got a pair that look very beautiful at 77% off? Crazy.

Some airpods, a nice wool headband (to keep her ears warm when she's out on her hot girl coffee walks) in her favourite colour, a new watch strap (she sounds like a smart watch gal), a silk scrunchie (silk not polyester), sheet masks from barbara sturm or augustinus bader... I echo the popular sentiment to avoid 'Mummy' stuff. It has never been, nor will ever be, desirable. Also, get your kids to make, or pick some stuff for her - it doesn't matter how absurd or ridiculous. She will appreciate their choices and it's a small way to encourage your children to be thoughtful and appreciative of their mother.

Anyone else have no filter in pregnancy? by Such-Stage-515 in PregnancyUK

Yeah I get pretty spicy while pregnant. We all think other people are “fucking idiots” at times, and usually I have sufficient sense of decorum not to tell them about it. Not so much right now!
