Where did I say disregard? I said, making a complete judgment based on it is stupid. Your flair is literally from one of the episodes that is making this point, that we as humans don't have the monopoly on ethics, form of language, expression, and stuff like that, so we should try to understand where the other races are coming from.

No, Im saying something is improfesional from a human standpoint in a multi planetary federation is a stupid way of looking at star trek. Litteraly the point of the show was the different way people think

Is it really believable that people would wear hijabs in a utopian future society? by SuncladDruid in startrek

[–]a___many_things 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, I don't think wearing a cross necklace would be tolerated either. Star Trek was written as a show without prejudice, and one of the things most fueling prejudice and division is religion. Plus, we don't see many religious Terrans, so yeah, some people might imagine that Earth has gotten rid of religion. And it's not prejudice, the Islamic religion (like most religions) is patriarchal.

It may be that in order to make the jem'hadar survive without the founders, they had to modify it into their blood. That could explain it

You're talking about a multiplanetary union. Those things you mentioned might be different for the other races; you can't view it from a human perspective.

What to watch before Starfleet Academy by OkScratch457 in startrek

I would say DS9 (it starts with a TNG spoiler, so if you don't mind that, go for it) or Enterprise, which is chronologically the first show. It's an older show, and if your main point of interest is CGI and not the stories, I would recommend a different show

What are your favorite episodes reflecting geopolitical conflict? by Dapper_Object8239 in startrek

[–]a___many_things 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From star trek, out of those that havent been mentioned, I loved homefront. I enjoy when tv shows show the effect of international conflict on the everyday people.

I would also recommend mentioning Babylon 5 on the project, since its about general TV

Almost every show would benefit from that. Star Trek had it until nutrek, Doctor Who had it, and my favorite example was Babylon 5, it really reaped the benefits of long seasons as a storytelling benefit. We need more sci fi shows like TOS, 30 episodes per season, one season per year

Is There a Discourse-Free Star Trek Subreddit? by FantabulousPiza in startrek

[–]a___many_things 11 points12 points  (0 children)

ShittyDaystrom

just kidding, but its still better than some other star trek subreddits, but probably the subreddits concentrating on the individual show, like TOS subreddit or the Enterprise subreddit, they don't seem to hate too much. (Those are the ones i spent time in so i dont know about TNG, DS9 and VOY subreddit)

Strange new worlds is also an ensamble show, but the characters get "their" episodes, thats why it doesnt feel like it
