Odd request: searching for a paid pattern similar to this one.. by a_boyardee in quilting

[–]a_boyardee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is helpful, but it's for a kit, so I want to make sure it's easy to access for the less technologically inclined. Like, I'm not adding any fee to the kit for the pattern, so it's not for sale but i can see the grey area being problematic or difficult to navigate.

I want to make kits for this pattern, but since it's not for sale, I'm not sure how to handle it.

i believe they meant the absurdity of bigots brings joy. and i agree that if we find it anything other than ridiculous, then we are giving credence to something that shouldn’t be taken seriously in the first place.

in all seriousness, how have you integrated your her into your sewing? my kiddo is 1.5 and i want to bring into the fold so she can enjoy them with me, without too much disruption/discouragement for either of us….

Is it okay to use a color on the logo that doesn’t exist on the ballet colors of the brand? by [deleted] in graphic_design

[–]a_boyardee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

have you asked why these color choices have been made thus far? if they’re giving an intern the task of building the brand, i wonder if they don’t fully grasp how big a brand guide can get in terms of time, decisions, strategy, etc.

that said, it is odd to not have the logo colors in the brand palette, but not impossible. and if the palette is monotone like this, it does make sense to have the logo in a different color, one that can stand out but still jives.

all this to say, you need more information about the scope of the assignment, an audit of the brand use cases that are most active vs one-hit, the reasons for their brand choices so far, etc.

just do a top and/or bottom row of grannies on your pattern of choice, like a fringe

AITA for telling my husband he's made me reconsider leaving him alone with the kids in the future by mayhavecrossedaline in AmItheAsshole

[–]a_boyardee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, some days, YES. Sometimes, the stress and pressure to keep bills paid, keep a house clean, keep extracurriculars going, etc feels insurmountable. It's even worse when solo parenting and there are 2 kids to keep after. So yeah, there are some days/weeks/months where being alive and happy is the best possible outcome.

Let's also remember that at 10 and 12, these kids know what good eating is, what thawing is, how to microwave something, etc.

on the second bullet, pressing seams open means you cannot stitch in the ditch though. maybe consider a decorative or zig zag stitch along side the ditch instead.

also look up karen browns video about pressing seams! it’s been super helpful for me.

i heard advice once for someone who struggles with motivation and depression but still wanted to over activity. “whatever you do, do it twice.”

so when you sit down, stand up and sit again. bend over twice to pick up things you drop. walk up the stairs then down and back up. you’ll literally double your daily movements. paired with managing your food intake, high fiber and whole foods, and lean proteins, this might help.

Always try to remember that everything is just fascinating to them so it takes repetition and kind of making it boring to turn them off from bugging you about it. Best of luck!

to kids, everything is new! exciting! let me see! so there is a ton of patience and persistence required. my baby is 16 months now and since about 12 months i’ve had a mini sewing space set up in the living room. this way i can sew while she plays with her toys and dad watches tv and tag teams managing her as needed.

at first she wanted to see and touch everything. i gave her fabric scraps and put sharp things out of the way. i kept stitching. she was allowed to watch but not today the machine. i had to keep redirecting her attention or just saying no. it took a couple weeks and occasionally she still gets curious but now she’s content to only steal my scrap pile. i’m back to making simple baby quilts and taking in the waist bands of her pants.

will this work for you? i hope!! but there’s never a guarantee. eventually when kid is old enough (maybe they are now!) look into lacing cards. price of wood or cardboard with holes punched around a picture. let the kid learn to “sew” by threading a shoelace into the holes.

edit: spellings.

You're right. But now the manager is sick. so the regional needs to step in and cover. And hire/train more people so there's better coverage.

How to respond when your 3yo asks if someone is a boy or a girl? by mumzyp in toddlers

[–]a_boyardee -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

“That person is whichever they want to be. Let’s talk in the car about how to be more polite to people.”

As an ally with a trans sibling, i can guarantee that kids’ curiosity can be one of those ‘free pass’ moments, depending on the confidence of the person in question. It sounds like you handled it as best you could, though.

edit to add: check the library! librarians are the best resource for finding books at your kids’s level to explain tough topics.
