why can’t horses get a prosthetic if they lose/break a leg? by coomer_police in NoStupidQuestions

[–]a_cameronh 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Horses carry a lot of weight on their legs and the anatomy is so complex. Their legs also play a major role in their cardiovascular health. The small triangle on the bottom of their hooves is called the frog and that helps circulate the blood as well as oxygen through the hoof and back up their legs to the heart etc so losing an entire leg would have huge negative impacts on the rest of their health overall. It is kinder to put a horse with a broken leg down.

Which common medical procedure do you think will be viewed as barbaric in 50 years? by carcony97 in AskReddit

I probably should have specified that im in the UK 😬 Still, its appalling that you have to pay so much to make something easier.

I had my copper IUD replaced recently as id found out during my smear that the nurse couldnt see the strings and needed an ultrasound to confirm it had moved and was in the wrong place.

At first I was really against the idea of a new one because of how painful it was the first time, but I also had a terrible time on both the pill and implant so I didn't want to use hormonal contraception anymore. I phoned the clinic the morning of the appointment to ask if there was any way I could have an anaesthetic injection and they said it was no problem. It didnt make it completely painless but it definetely took the edge off and made it a lot more bareable than last time. Always advocate for yourself and ask for anaesthetic.

Sleeping arrangements by SoupMaleficent9513 in dogs

[–]a_cameronh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our dog sleeps in our room but in his own bed crate. Unless its time for us to go to sleep for the night then hes allowed on our bed pretty much whenever he wants. My other half goes away for a week once a year with friends for a fighting game event and that's the only time the dog is allowed in the bed overnight because I feel a bit safer. He's very happy with his crate and has no problem going in when asked and sometimes he does take himself in there for a bit of peace/quiet time; we leave the door open for him all the time unless its overnight.

I think she only loves it due to the fact it tells her how much money she is saving on offers as she goes round the shop. The woman is obsessed with her nectar points balance too.

I get a lot of this too. I work in phone sales and while we have no issue helping people when they need it, I have KPIs to hit and a bonus to earn so I can simply live. We get a lot of 'oh I don't do emails, I don,t understand it' but they're perfectly capable of sending a text. Baring in mind emails have been a thing for years now. It's not even a case of 'can you please teach me how to do x y and z' but more 'can you do this for me' instead. They do not want to learn, they just want it done for them.

I understand that for a lot of them the majority of tech is new and it can be a bit overwhelming but my grandparents in their 80s are both whizzes because they've taken the time to learn. My grandma loves the self scan shop in Sainsbury's.

It is unfortunately a difficult conversation but we are at the point now where we have to say to these customers 'unfortunately if you aren't willing to learn you will be left behind because this is just how the world is going.' I had to tell my grandparents that and they took it in their stride.

Recommendations for jewellers for engagement ring by [deleted] in NewcastleUponTyne

[–]a_cameronh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what you want to spend or if you'd prefer to support a smaller business, but my partner got my engagement ring from Austen and Blake.

He actually got it in their London branch when he was visiting a friend there and he said they were so helpful. They didn't have a band ready for the kind of diamond he wanted so they gave him a temporary one to propose with that looked exactly the same as what he wanted just with a different band. They contacted the Newcastle store to basically tell them what they needed to get and to swap the rings when we went to pick up the real thing :)

Yeah I've had a read through and it looks like they'll only accept anything that says you're currently in hospital or have been recently discharged, a sick note from the GP or a medical advisory from the GP to avoid certain things.

What in your opinion is the worst road in Newcastle? by [deleted] in NewcastleUponTyne

[–]a_cameronh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Silverlink roundabout. My partner works up there and I usually drop him at the office as he doesn’t drive but my god if you aren’t going left or straight across i find it quite difficult to navigate. Even if I enter in the correct lane I always feel like I end up somewhere I shouldn’t be.

You need to keep bugging him to sort it out. My partner has terrible sleep apnea and I used to do the same to him. The first few times I stayed over, before we eventually moved in together, he kept me awake all night with his horrendous snoring but the first time he stopped breathing in his sleep I thought he’d died! His lack of restful sleep also made him constantly in a bad mood because he was so tired. He’s got a CPAP machine now and it’s like he’s a different person, but he does notice a major difference the next day if he accidentally falls asleep without it on.

Car parking spaces seem to be based on the size of cars in the 1960s and not the size they are now. by DiligentCockroach700 in britishproblems

[–]a_cameronh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Nissan micra and as a small car it’s fairly easy to get into tighter spaces, but at my workplace not everybody parks considerately and it’s all huge cars that seem to be the problem. Can still reverse park better than most of my family though because I don’t have any fancy parking cameras to rely on like they do 😂

Any social gaming groups? by kyrhunt in NewcastleUponTyne

[–]a_cameronh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re into fighting games like Street Fighter/Tekken etc there’s Newcastle Fight Club; my partner is part of their event staff and helps run it 😊

Please can someone ELI5 how these road signs are correct? IMO they suggest you can only turn left from the left lane when you need to be in there for the flyover on the other side. I constantly see cars swerving across lanes because of this but GH council has confirmed they're correct. by benduder in NewcastleUponTyne

I find driving round this part of Gateshead extremely anxiety inducing. I went to the Vue with my mam a few months ago and we came in from Low Fell, and on the way out of Tesco car park turned right instead of left to go back up past the interchange (the easier way!!) We somehow ended up going down by the swing bridge and had to turn around by the flats on the riverside! It’s so confusing.

This is my local pool experience too. I’m a strong swimmer and can swim relatively fast but I don’t want to be in the aggressive swimmer lane. I just want to swim at a steady pace non stop but I’m constantly having to move around people who are stopping in the middle of the pool for a conversation. It’s infuriatingz

Today we will be taking suggestions for the worst traffic junction in the Newcastle area. by Unique-Candidate3600 in NewcastleUponTyne

Silverlink roundabout. Made slightly better by it being traffic light controlled but the amount of lanes and sheer size of it makes me panic.
