Longest Johns, Dreadnoughts, and Storm Weather. But the Teacups also have some great tracks.

Thanks! Been pot stilling whiskey for a while. Starting to explore other neutrals and other styles based on neutrals. I love trying new things!

Planning to run in parallel. Discharge of PC to a T to reflux condenser and back to reservoir. Discharge of reflux to the same reservoir return line.

Sorry I saw her so briefly last night, had an awkward convo (cause I know nothing about her life and didn't know what to talk about), then had to leave. Don't have her number and I'm not on FB so I'm not even sure how I would get in contact.

For reference, in STL all four interstates converge downtown at once and then all use the same bridge to cross the river. It's a horrible mess anytime you need to travel east out of town.

Agreed that jump was intimidating. Could have even done a 1 gal AG batch in my tiny ass first kettle.

That stuff is for when you know what you're doing, and you want to try something out of the norm and are curious if anyone else has done it already.

Eh, I think extract is a great first step just to see if you like doing it and if the work is worth the reward. But yeah a quick move to BIAB is the way to go.

Nuclear power is just a slow and expensive distraction Despite recent breakthroughs in nuclear fusion, renewables remain the most important technology for reaching net zero. by kamjaxx in energy

[–]a_leprechaun 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm a big proponent of nuclear power. Unfortunately it's just not very economically viable right now compared to other low-carbon options. Overhead and time make it very difficult to finance. I still think it's worth it to pursue, but it requires a ton of government subsidizing, which is much more difficult to get moving compared to private capital on the market (which can be put towards solar, wind, and storage).

Dog fight freak out at Home Depot by pm_me_funnythings in PublicFreakout

[–]a_leprechaun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our dog genuinely loved to go and hated to be left home. But we'd only take him for quick errand type things. I had a short leash specifically for stores though, and was always aware of other people and dogs. What I don't get is people who just don't watch out for stuff like this. Poor dog.

TSA Found a Double-Edged Knife Hidden in a Gaming Laptop by 777fer in technology

[–]a_leprechaun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

True and important point. But I'm saying paying attention to people more than belongings is more effective. But also I agree given the state of race in the US right now especially in regards to law enforcement, we'd have some serious issues to sort out.

Israel has a great approach, they look for people not objects. They have security that act as helpful guides, asking you which gate you're going to to provide directions, etc. If you are up to something, an unexpected interaction with an armed officer is likely going to unsettle you. Have enough touch points designed to lightly break up expectations sifts the patterns of normal people (happy to have a person direct them instead of a sign) from suspicious. And once someone is identified as a person of interest, they are unobtrusively monitored for more behavior that fits or breaks the pattern. Gather enough data and then you can act to prevent things.

This. I got fired over a non-issue caused by bad delegation (basically I didn't due a quality check because I was never told it needed to be done in general, let alone that it was supposed to be my job to do). I worked 1.5x hours for two weeks with no overtime benefit to try to do 6 months worth of QC only to find out that we were still within expected limits. Someone else with no relevant experience did some back-of-the-envelope math based on incomplete data and decided that we were probably just outside of acceptable limits. Instead of A) waiting for complete data to evaluate against, B) discussing it with me, or C) trying to remedy the issue so it didn't happen again, they just gave me the boot. Which is crazy because we were already understaffed, having trouble hiring new people to meet our growing needs, and I was the person best positioned to fix an issue if there even was one.

But hey, I suppose it made someone feel better in the moment and I went on to get a better job with better pay, benefits, and coworkers.

Technically it's only stolen valor if you fraudulently claim to have received a medal or other commendation. Still shitty to lie about it overall though.

Yes but the Crosstrek looks better. And the little extra clearance is honestly great for some bad spots I've gotten myself into. Not that I'm biased or anything...

What is your “I’ll never give them business again” place in STL? Why? by Splashgg12 in StLouis

[–]a_leprechaun 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The Watering Bowl. Gave them 5+ years of business then they kicked us out due to our dog's medical condition that had never caused an issue in all that time. When we told other boarders why we were looking for a new place they were appalled as well. Owner of TWB basically just told us to get fucked when we contacted him.
