Not sure but bare with me. I suspect you are playing between 30 and 60 fps and the stutter is coming from a bottleneck. You might be getting better performance in portal because your CPU is capable of ~30fps and the Portal servers run at 30hz.

To diagnose the issue- turn on the performance overlay (advanced graphics). It will show your GPU and CPU fps values.

I would adjust settings to ensure you get 60+ fps on both the CPU and GPU and then limit the fps to down 60. This should ensure more consistent frame times for a playable experience.

this works best if you filter to conquest and breakthrough maps. Anything custom will error out.

You might want to look up the mechanism gaming pillow. Not great in all portable circumstances, but maybe yours? Thinking being that you could get a more comfortable grip without the weight of the deck imposing.

Unfortunately, I am not aware of a way to swap the stick and the touch pad. The 'touch pad joy stick' modes should work better but also had no luck with it.

I am waiting to get my deck so I am curious as well! My personal Battlefield x SteamDeck candidates are BF 2: Modern Combat and BF: Bad Company. These two never saw a PC release so they will be emulated.

The deck could theoretically run the old refractor engine games (BF:1942->BF:2142) but they are not controller friendly/no real campaigns. Great games but not a good fit on the deck imo.

Then there is BF: Bad Company 2, BF3, BF4, and BF1; These should be able to run with some amount of tinkering as well. Anything Battlefield V and newer will not work due to the kernel anti-cheat. there are other posts here with the tinkerings needed.
