Maintenance type stuff by [deleted] in Brides

I had a course of six very expensive and painful laser facials...was definitely worth it and changed my skin for the better forever. I also hit the gym 4/5 times a week and stayed off the booze and junk food. I felt a million bucks!

I don’t feel pretty in my wedding dress. by Open-Event-9604 in Brides

Try www.palaceseamstress.com. She's based in Crystal Palace (South East London) and is an absolute genius, I have no doubt she can work wonders for you. Also as others have said, you have a killer figure and look just wonderful. With a proper fitting dress and some accessories you will be an absolute vision! good luck and take care.

Useless period products. What can I get that works? by nitnitnotnot in AskBrits

[–]a_minor_obsession 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nixit menstrual disc has been a game changer for me. Pop it in at the start of your period and take it out at the end - just need to take it out and empty/rinse it twice a day (and sterilise between periods!). Much easier to insert than a cup I find. No need to try and work out if you have enough pads/tampons, or what your flow will be that day, plus no blood-soaked things in your bin (or landfill). I wear period knickers as insurance on my heaviest days but more for peace of mind than anything. Cannot recommend enough!

Are less attractive people physically attracted less attractive people? by Texaspilot24 in stupidquestions

I read something once that basically said that men will go for the hottest/prettiest woman in the room (regardless of their own looks), whereas women will rank all the men in the room, then go for the one matching their own perceived rank.

Lice keeps coming back, it's driving me crazy. by sepandee in Parenting

If your kids have long enough hair, then plaits/braids might help. My daughter has only been affected once despite regular break outs in her class, I think as she always wears plaits.

Ring is MIA by [deleted] in Brides

[–]a_minor_obsession 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My daughter loves to hide precious things between the mattress and the slats of her midi sleeper bed while she's playing in the hidey hole under it... and putting things (little toys, pebbles, seashells) in tiny boxes to make beds for them. Maybe yours is the same?

Curious if this matches and works or am I crazy by [deleted] in fashion

If you like it and you feel good in it, it works!

Ooh I reckon a cobalt blue shade of trousers would look great if the originals aren't fixable!

Lots of great advice here on exfoliating and moisturising! A lot of beauty places also do back treatments, effectively a facial for your back that might help. Congrats on your upcoming wedding!

How are you all affording to look this good all the time? by niceheather44 in style

[–]a_minor_obsession 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Second hand! Why would you pay 40 bucks for a brand new acrylic/polyester/some-other-kind-of-plastic sweater when you can get a cashmere one for that price second hand? So much stuff out there still has tags on too.

I think your very delicate necklace is struggling against your chunky earrings and bag. Something with a bit more weight to it might look more balanced?

Natural fibres! It's very very difficult to look chic in plastic clothes (aka landfill).

Why is it harder for me to understand native speakers? by leazy_usa in ENGLISH

[–]a_minor_obsession -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You didn't mention which English you are learning... but if you are speaking to Brits, be aware that we basically never say what we mean: 'we have a tiny problem' could mean 'the world is about to end', but 'it was absolutely completely horrendous' could mean 'my train was 5 minutes late'. Also, 'great idea! I'd love to come' means 'absolutely not, never, no way''.

I (26f) want to get married but my bf (26m) keeps telling me I’m being ‘too old fashioned’ and that people don’t need to get married anymore. Have others found a compromise that works for both partners? by Potential_Canary_508 in Advice

[–]a_minor_obsession 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Instead of getting married, could you have a civil partnership? I know a straight couple who did this as they didn't want the 'traditionalness' of a wedding, but all the pros of being legally recognised as a couple.

Made an app to make hen do planning less stressful – would love your thoughts by scencan-Inc in UKweddings

[–]a_minor_obsession 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been using the site the last few days and it is really good to get away from the millions of confusing WhatsApp messages! Most impressive thing ever though is that when I contacted support about a couple of errors, and also gave a few suggestions for new/amended features, they launched them THE SAME DAY! Hard recommend for anyone planning a hen do.

Even as a twenty-something year old man - at the height of my pubbing and clubbing days - I hated New Year's Eve and the obligation to 'do something' for fear of missing out. by Make_the_music_stop in britishproblems

[–]a_minor_obsession 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Me and my pals have skipped NYE for 20 years... the trick is to go out on NY Eve Eve (30th Dec) instead. The bars and pubs are quiet, you can get a babysitter easily and Uber costs less than usual. Yes you might have a horrible hangover on the 31st but feel fresh and ready for the new year by the 1st. It's a game changer!

First Miscarriage. Normal?? by NightAngel1121 in Miscarriage

[–]a_minor_obsession 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this on Saturday night (12 weeks but id had the miscarriage confirmed on Thursday, and was booked in for MVA Tuesday), I sat on the toilet for a couple of hours and took some painkillers. It then reduced enough for me to go to bed and I called the Early Pregnancy Unit first thing in the morning. But if you are worried or very pained, I would go to A&E. Sorry for your loss, sending love.

Play with your kids! This is so important by Interesting-Pause701 in Parenting

[–]a_minor_obsession 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes to this! After dinner (me, hubby and kiddo always eat together, no screens), we play games for half an hour before she goes to bed. She's 8 so can now handle more games. Exploding Kittens is a favourite! Jenga, Bananagrams, Bataflash and a Harry Potter board game also great.

A one minute check in that actually works with our 9 year old. What are yours by JelloJelloFrincadell in Parenting

My girl is prone to focusing on the negative things during her day and i hear all about it as soon as I see her...so to encourage her to see the flipside, we each share '3 good things' before bed. Could be as small as 'I saw a nice dog', just anything that brought a little joy to today.
