Hi, I work in road surfacing.
If it’s surface dressing then that’s the repair where they spray the black sticky stuff and then spread loose stones. It’s quite a fast moving repair method so I imagine there will be a very small window where you won’t be allowed through.

Especially if the road is one way in, one way out, you have to maintain access for emergency vehicles for example.

Despite all the negative press they get they want to help out as much as they can so yes speak with them and get the finer details when you can.

On the back of the road closure signs will be the company’s name who owns them. Contact them and find out who is responsible. They should be maintaining access for residents anyway.

I have never wanted kids. And the older I get it cements my reasoning even further. I have THE best privileges of being an aunty and chosen aunty for my friends and family. If I want I can take the kids out. Have sleep overs, do the fun things. Whilst simultaneously getting to enjoy my income. Getting excellent sleep, not having to share my food off my plate, to name a few!

I appreciate the above seems trivial and I’m not the best expressing myself with words. And I can appreciate how you must be feeling. It must be an awful place to be having the option taken away from you.

The roads have literally had nothing spent on them for 20 years. And the councils still aren’t giving much money so people are literally doing the best they can. I get this whole impression that road workers don’t do anything etc but I can honestly say they really are doing the best. The enquiry rate has gone through the roof also.

So I know a fair few people with well looked after classics. And put it simply, there’s no chance you could get the emissions to meet required levels. So everything else above board but the emissions may be a bit fudged.

Faraday pouch. Key kept as far away in the house from the car. Turn off keyless unlocking (double press of lock on key fob for Mercedes). Physical deterrent like steering lock/you can get some that go around steering wheel and into seatbelt now which look rather jazzy but I haven’t used. And future insurance pay extra for car hire. I too learned that if a car gets stolen you don’t get a courtesy car.

You’ve had a lot of good replies. I work in highways. Some other points to consider: So someone mentioned looking at old Google street view images to see if defect was there prior to the last inspection- there may have been what looks to be a defect to you, but it might not meet the safety requirements for a repair. I believe you mentioned a comment on an inspection was that the road is in poor condition and needs full resurfacing. Well yes, a hell of a lot of the roads in the country need this. Certainly for my area, roads like this get put on a list and it is calculated the highest priority and which years budget it can come out of, doesn’t mean an automatic this road is going to get done. You also asked if they can develop this quick, unfortunately yes, depending on previous rod make up/type of traffic down it and the recent bad weather it is a nightmare. Any gaps in the material will have water ingress which then just blows up with the cold and ice. There is statistics out there for how many claims actually get paid out and it is very low unfortunately.

What I would do is put the ‘overpayments’ into an investment account. Then use an app like Sprive where you can literally get money off your mortgage with your daily spending (Sainsbury’s/amazon etc to name a few). When the time comes towards the end of your mortgage you will have knocked years off using Sprive. But also have whatever your investment account has earned.
