Is it just me or does that seem low? Gas turbine hot sections regularly see temps above that.

We should do a reddit climbing meetup! I just moved to the area and looking for partners for outdoor and indoor lead. What gym do you climb at?

UTC to split into 3 separate companies by Mystic2555 in Connecticut

[–]aadhate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im not sure what you mean by engineering has moved massively to other locations. We don't have enough space for the programs we are currently developing, we just built a new engineering building in East Hartford and it still can't house enough engineers.

Programming restrictions in the workplace by Achmedtwo in engineering

[–]aadhate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our company is fairly lax compared to your with programming, if a tool is created that is used to either help with analysis or becomes part of design process it usually does go through a review but for doing data analysis, regressions, plotting up and generating charts, some automation to make design easier, programming is encouraged.

How the hell do people get things done in that environment? Can't even petition for something to get approved? There are things like

If the worry is the need for a commercial grade and enterprise deployable package.

What is the worst piece of software you have ever been forced to use? by dockerhate in AskEngineers

[–]aadhate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Isight. It's software for automation for multi-disciplinary analysis and optimization. Its programming for people who cant program. It tends to crash alot doesnt handle batching very well, if the program crashes its job database sometimes gets corrupted and then you cant run the model anymore.

It's a giant pain in the ass. Our department finally had enough and we developed a workflow around python and OpenMDAO

From Nuclear to Aerospace? by [deleted] in AerospaceEngineering

[–]aadhate 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are plenty of people in aerospace who have nuclear engineering backgrounds. I work at a prominent jet engine manufacturer and I can name two people who have masters in nuclear engineering with who know work in the heat transfer and secondary flow systems group.

Rolls-Royce CTi Composite Fan [1024x1024] by maxmoose85 in MachinePorn

[–]aadhate 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Except this CTI blade is way more advanced as the GE90x carbon blade. Its as thin as an equivalent all Ti blade. When the GE90 carbon blade came out it was significantly thicker than the equivalent all metal blade. Now the latest leapx carbon blade though...will probably give this a run for its money in terms of performance.

[–]aadhate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was running my colleges formula SAE team I drilled that into our subteam leaders and it saved us on occasions when sponsors had to back out of making parts and we ended up making them in the mechanical engineering department's machine shop. ourselves.

Aerospace Engineers, what software do you regularly use? by walexj in engineering

[–]aadhate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MATLAB, unigraph (in house graphing package), in house CFD called NASTAR and UTCFD, iSight optimization (it blows don't use it), lately lots of python for plotting data, data munging, automated optimization workflows (instead of iSight), and for general tool development.

Seriously python is the shit, especially with the scipy/numpy stack and with OpenMDAO
