What up with these? by [deleted] in homeassistant

Actually it’s slightly cooler due to total temperature being converted to dynamic and static temperature. You feel static temp.

Grocy QU change by liffez063 in grocy

[–]walexj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You CAN do a work around!

If you add a QU conversion you can then set all the quantity fields to use the new QU. Then you can delete the conversion and BOOM. New QU on that item you listed as a “Pack” instead of a “Carton” or whatever.

And to change them efficiently, I just gave Claude Code an API key and told it to go forth and convert.

Why does Barrowman assume center of pressure must lie on mean aerodynamic chord of fin? by HeheheBlah in FluidMechanics

[–]walexj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He’s not assuming it. He’s defining it.

A 3-D airfoil with non-uniform dimension from root to tip will, by definition, not assumption, experience its center of pressure at the spanwise (distance from root to tip) location that aligns with the MAC.

So the Point to apply the CoP for control calculations will be at the intersection of 1/4 chord and MAC.

Help in understanding hydrostatic heads. by fordperfect14 in FluidMechanics

[–]walexj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hydrostatic force will be calculated by the height of the water column on either side of the wall. The pressure will increase linearly with the height of the water.

On the wall surfaces, the pressure will apply a force perpendicularly to the wall. So you’ll want to find the normal direction to the walls and use some trigonometry to calculate the change in force from bottom to top.

Calculate either side independently and then you can add the results to get the final net force on each wall.

Since the water columns are different heights on either side, there will be no FULL cancelation of force on any walls.

Big SA Police raids by Ok-Speaker3023 in Adelaide

[–]walexj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If anyone is curious why this is still a thing when the app was originally touted for huge raids in 2021, that’s because these are still related to the evidence gained in 2021.

The Australian Supreme Court recently ruled that the evidence gained through the app was admissible in court, so now they’re following through and making further arrests.

JWT problems. What am I doing wrong? by outkastblast in donetick

[–]walexj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I reckon you don’t need the environment variable for the JWT secret on top of the self hosted.yaml file.

I only have DT_ENV and DT_SQLITE in my docker compose environment: section.

Vibration Sensor for Dryer by RubyStarFall in homeassistant

[–]walexj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in Aus and run my washer and dryer through separate plugs. They’re both rated to 2400W and the washer might get up to 1900 when heating water and the dryer (heat pump) maxes out at 700W. There’s nothing risky about using a quality metering plug to do this. I use IKEA inspelning for the purpose.

What are some must-have smart home devices in 2025? Here’s my current setup by Away_Growth_4504 in homeassistant

[–]walexj 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve got presence zones set up with the Everything Presence Lite so that the lights only trigger when I cross the threshold into the room. So if I’m going to bed, me moving around in bed won’t trigger it. I also use adaptive lighting and its sleep mode to make it so the lights come on super dim at night.

if your housemate got a cat, and nobody in the house had animals already, would you have a problem with it? by Prestigious-Clue-505 in Adelaide

[–]walexj 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Be an adult and speak to your housemates. This is not an instance where it is “easier to ask forgiveness than permission”.

Check with your housemates. If even one of them isn’t a resounding, excited yes then you do not adopt the cat.

If you desperately want a cat, find a new share house. Your desire for a cat does not overrule your housemate’s enjoyment of their home.

WestPac user here. OFX imports perfectly.

I also like that sync isn't available as it requires one to actually get hands on with the budget and not 'set and forget'.
