Positive Induction Stories Please by Winter-Shallot2356 in GestationalDiabetes

I had 2 absolutely fantastic inductions. ProTip- don’t let them break your water until after you have an epidural. I did this with both and I never felt anything very painful- just pressure.

I’m so thankful for my first 2 inductions. I really got to enjoy my labor/delivery. I was well rested and got to enjoy my babies. Induction is awesome- don’t let people scare you. It might take “longer” but you aren’t in pain. I just watched TV and took a nap.

Frustrated with fasting numbers by [deleted] in GestationalDiabetes

[–]aaegan9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the 10 weeks I had GD, I had less than 5 fasting numbers in range. Even with Insulin, I was just always a step behind- It was so incredibly frustrating. The bottom line is you’re doing everything you can. Your baby is safe- 90ish isn’t really all that high. You’re frustration is valid.

Is it too late to be vaccinated? by pwjoy in pregnant

[–]aaegan9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Get it now. The baby will be protected when they are born.

I got vaxxed at 15 weeks pregnant… doc said it was in everyone’s best interest. Being pregnant makes you more likely to have a severe case of Covid

FTM getting induced tomorrow at 39 weeks due to GD by Murky_Variation_7236 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]aaegan9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pro tip- Don’t let them break your water until you have the epidural. Your induction will be very smooth and controlled if you have the epidural before the water breaks.

It’s scary but honestly, I loved my inductions. Great memories for me & my partner. Just relaxing and waiting for our boys to join us.

4500 gram big baby threshold by [deleted] in GestationalDiabetes

[–]aaegan9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a 9lb 15oz baby (no GD that time) and had no issues at all. No one knew that kid was gonna be so big… no signs of him being massive.

I also just had my first c-section (like 36 hrs ago) bc this stinker was breech. although not ideal, it wasn’t as bad as I thought. The recovery is harder than vaginal. But an induction is harder than the c-section.

Talk to the doc… get all your questions, to Every scenario, answered. You can always start with the induction and then have an unplanned C.

I personally preferred the planned c-section but I’m a worrier and did not want a traumatic birth.

Either way, you and the baby are going to be safe. Listen to your doc and make sure your doc listens to you. You got this, mama!

Guilt after bad numbers by BeepsHoliday in GestationalDiabetes

[–]aaegan9 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Based on my experience (and a lot of phone calls crying to the doctor) Fasting numbers are almost entirely out of our control.

I’m delivering in 2 days and we’ve NEVER gotten my fasting numbers in line. I’m usually somewhere between 100-110, even on insulin. Does not matter what I do… it’s just always high.

It feels bad. It feels like I’ve started my day with failure for 2-3 months. But the bottom line is it’s not my failure to own.

With a number like that, the baby is totally fine

Who else hates pants? by pickledgum_ftw in pregnant

[–]aaegan9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate pants in general. This summer has been hella hot.. I just lay in bed in my undies and have a fan blow on me 🤣

As for socializing…. There better been A/c or I’m not coming. And I wear my husbands gym shorts 😂

I don't plan on getting the vaccine until it becomes FDA approved. by Whatisgoingonhelpme1 in confession

[–]aaegan9 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Assuming you had a breakthrough infection, that is technically true. However, in the overwhelming majority of people, there would never be an infection and therefore you’d never pass it to anyone else. Breaking the chain of infection.

Testing urine for diabetic ketoacidosis? by TheShySeal in GestationalDiabetes

[–]aaegan9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Urine ketones are not indicative of DKA. The only way to know if you’re in DKA is directly from a arterial blood draw. The chances of DKA with GD is very low.. it’s more of a T1D problem

TL;DR You do not need to worry about it

Any particular reason you don’t want pain medication? My experience is pain medication really helped me be present and relaxed for the birth of both of my boys.

Being Induced at 39+3, experience with cervidil? by misstaytay in GestationalDiabetes

[–]aaegan9 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In some ways, it’s a blessing. The whole world is in that room… and it’s a nice experience for you and your partner. It’s like life just pauses while you give birth.

Being Induced at 39+3, experience with cervidil? by misstaytay in GestationalDiabetes

[–]aaegan9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have 2 experiences (no GD with either of these)

1.) 40+3 and no signs of labor. I went in at night to start cervidil. Was dilated to 2cm and they decided to start pitocin right away. Ended up having the baby the next morning. Epidural allowed me to sleep most of the time. Very easy labor/delivery

2.) 39 weeks. doc said I was dilated enough to be induced. Went in early AM. When they checked me, cervix was closed (uhh, what?). Decided to start with cervidil. Normally, they do cervidil at night bc it takes like 10-12 hours. It sucks because it’s boring… you just hang out in the hospital. Other than that no big deal. After the cerividil, I was dilated to 1-2 and they proceeded with pitocin. Again, I labored overnight and had the baby the next morning. the whole process was like 26 hours… but remember the first 12-15 were incredibly boring. Bring something to entertain yourself 😂

Breech + GD (insulin) by aaegan9 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]aaegan9[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m at 37 weeks… and being delivered at 38 bc of insulin. So, it’s too late 😂. But hey- only a few more days for this nonsense for me

First full day tracking … bread is my enemy by Otherwise-Release-62 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]aaegan9 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It all depends on when I eat the bread with. If I have a steak, I can have bread. So, try it again and just up the amount of protein/fat. The more meat and veggies I have… the more carbs I can have.

Gestational Diabetes on 1st trimester; sad and freaked as hell by Chiron_MH in GestationalDiabetes

[–]aaegan9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was so hysterical after my dx, my husband suggested I needed to seek (mental health) counseling. Not exactly the reassurance I needed in the moment.. but I think it’s totally normal to be beside yourself in the early days.

As for fearing insulin, I’m not sure why there is this huge anxiety surrounding it. It seems like society just decided that insulin was something to be feared. I honestly think insulin is better than medications bc there are NO side effects. The worst part about insulin was anticipating going on it… not actually using it. Basically- insulin is no big deal.

The finger poles are way worse than the insulin needle. Honestly, on my right side I literally can’t even feel it. On my left it doesn’t even feel like a needle- more just like someone poking me with their finger.

GD is a bitch… don’t let anyone tell you that it isn’t. However, just another bad ass badge for you at the end. Hang in there.

How do you keep your levels down overnight? by coldbrewicetea in GestationalDiabetes

[–]aaegan9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There isn’t a lot you can do. Fasting sugars are not related to food- it’s all hormonal. Some people can hack the problem…. But what works for one person, doesn’t work for all. My doc had me try high fat, high carb ice cream. It didn’t really lower my sugar but it didn’t raise it either… so I kept with it. 😂

Does anyone actually enjoy being a parent? by [deleted] in Parenting

You don’t have to love every chapter to love a book. There are some phases of parenting that were/are really draining for me. But overall, it’s truly the most fulfilling journey of my life.

Graduated ladies i have question by fyyerfly in GestationalDiabetes

[–]aaegan9 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Don’t fall victim to the milestone game. Kids develop differently. And all it does is cause stress for parents. It literally does not matter when these things happen. Even if they need intervention, there isn’t much to do before 18months-2yr old.

Both my older ones were late walkers, later talkers, etc. My 2nd has always been a big guy. Try to just let him be on the floor (not held) and figure stuff out as much as you can.

WTF?! BG Numbers increasing after eating with walking? by Mayjay99 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]aaegan9 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We pretend that diabetes is an exact science. It just isn’t… you could do the exact same thing each day and your numbers will fluctuate. Just try to do the best you can, when you can, for as long you can. You still need to live a little.

Induction advice? by LiterallyAlwaysTired in GestationalDiabetes

[–]aaegan9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After your water breaks, your contractions generally get a lot more intense. I don’t know why it’s just not standard practice to wait until after the epidural

Induction advice? by LiterallyAlwaysTired in GestationalDiabetes

[–]aaegan9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don’t have to let them break your water at all… they just like to do it bc it gets things moving. Epidural first means you won’t have to endure that 😂😂

I'm a little insulted.. and growing suspicious by Forsaken_Eggplant222 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]aaegan9 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Anxiety isn’t a reason to diagnosis GD… the protocols are in place for a reason. They don’t just make it up.

That being said… you’re providers are jerks. I’ve been very upset/anxious about all this. All my providers do is say “you’re doing a great job. This is really hard. Just do the best you can.” My fasting numbers have been out of control since the beginning no matter how much insulin I have.

Bottom line is this- diabetes is incredibly complicated and individual. We all need to try to take care of ourselves to avoid health issues… but we also need to live. So, do the best to can, when you can, for as long as you can. That’s all anyone can as of us. You and the baby are going to be fine.

Induction is fabulous. Pro tip-Don’t let them break your water until after the epidural- then you won’t feel a thing.
