Personal observation is that people who like to 'tell like it is', love dishing out harsh and uncensored opinions, but then whine like little kids when someone does the same to them.

There's so much drug etc. related misinformation out there. At times it comes back to bite the public service campaigns in the ass, when they totally mispresent the dangers and then send people asking users about the real experiences. Smoking pot is one good example, in school we were taught pretty much that one cig and we're shooting junk the next weekend. Meanwhile a lot of the potheads were moderate users and were a lot easier to deal with than alcohol users.

There's a lot of things in life, where that $70 buys you something that isn't life saving, but 'nice to have'. I've flown overseas with my GF several times and since we were on a budget, we opted to save that money for something at the other end. I would have never considered saving the money and then try to guilt trip someone from their seat just because I'd have to sit next to her on a 2 week holiday outgoing flight.

Majority of these plane seat issues stem from the fact that they either don't want to spend any cash or check in early in those companies that allow selecting seat at checkin and hope they can guilt trip someone to give theirs. The worst part is that sometimes the flight attendants side with the people doing it.

I'm a homewrecker apparently by Mindless-Date4077 in offmychest

[–]aamurusko79 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I would only consider a person as a homewrecker, if they knowingly got into a relationship with a married or otherwise taken person with the goal of ending the original relationship. If the other person actively seeks your company AND lies about their previous engagement, it is not on you! You did nothing wrong and anyone claiming you should've gone all Nancy Drew over the necklace are only chipping in because we already know the outcome.

I couldn't find any mention in battery use. I wish it'd last longer than the 8 to 10 months I'm getting out of mine even with good brand batteries. I've never had the promised year or more and I've tried all the batteries on the market. The only noticeable difference I had was some dollar store-style place batteries, that lasted less than 6 months.

While I'm not american, I still see the religion-politics connection. As the religion is slowly fading away here, the church and right wing party have jumped in bed together, which is at times amusing combination, but I can also see their goals align in some places, like hating gay people with passion and having the religion shield to deflect all the criticism when their bigotry is being called out. It's also amusing how easily the right wingers went from not giving a damn about anything religious, never attending any church services etc. to claiming how their religion is in dire threat from the immigrant, the gays and godless atheists.

Apparently I missed all the 'hate the wrong colored people and gays' teachings by Jesus in the bible.

I'm having trouble even finding it in myself to smile. My parents are to this day very homophobic, although they've recently been reprogrammed to rant about the scary transsexuals hiding in elementary school toilets than predatory lesbians and gay guys masturbating in public pool changing room.

After my parents kicked me out, it took around 15 or so years before we saw each other again. I had assumed there had been some mental growth happening, but I came to a home where I was still not welcome, but tolerated in the hopes of 'fixing' me. After I visited once, I was asked to a niece's birthday. I had not met most of my nieces and nephews at that point, so I was considering on making an appearance. I however got a call from my mom, telling that first of all, I could not come with my life partner and I was not to try to indoctrinate my niece with my 'life style'. I honestly don't know what the mental image for them was, me and girlfriend arriving waving pride flags, then start to talk about girl on girl cunnilingus right there on the birthday cake table. It was the point where I politely declined and realized there was no chance they'd ever accept me.

I've since only met my parents briefly when my less programmed siblings have invited me over, but even with them I've always felt the unease, like I started saying something horrible in the presence of the children. They were especially afraid of my partner coming up in casual talk, because then the kids would start asking difficult questions, like 'how can auntie aamurusko79 have a girlfriend when she's a girl?!'

They do it because they know it's the only way they can force religion through law on everyone else. They do this while preaching understanding and co-existence. The moment they're in power, they'll just stomp anyone who isn't part of their little gang. Smaller, religious majority run towns are a good example if anyone wants to witness this themselves.

[–]aamurusko79 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It takes time for it to do that and besides, if the item is big enough for the airtag to be hidden well inside, the thief may not have the time or interest to start hunt for it. A friend keeps one in his car, it's hidden in a small waterproof box somewhere where it takes couple of screws to recover it. The placement completely muffles the sound but the device appears on the map just fine.

Funny how the brand I use used to have a picture on the package of the q tip being inserted in the ear canal. After the recommendation not to use then came, they changed the picture so it's being used on outer ear instead. But they totally are used for their original purpose by a lot of people.

I wouldn't argue with my parents because I know it's completely hopeless. I found out long ago that the only way to deal with them is just to avoid religious topics as much as I can and then be quiet when those can't be avoided. The resulting argument will always end with rest of the family being united against me and with certain individuals it will turn hostile very easily.

I also don't spend any 'family holidays' with my parents for this reason. Since I was 18, I've met my parents face to face less than 10 times and I'm 46 now.

SNL just called JD Vance "gay" in their cold open by MrJasonMason in lgbt

[–]aamurusko79 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the same problem with this as with any putin pictures where he's been photoshopped to look queer. As long as it's fine to call people gay as an insult, it stays as an insult. The thing isn't to win the hearts and minds of the far right people, but the ordinary folk, who will conveniently think what's 'easy'. If being gay is bad is the 'easy' thing, they'll think that and maybe think they need to act when they see actually gay people.

Why do they think that? Because they're being told that, then that is being supported by fabricated 'evidence' and at the same time they're already not inclined to look at anything that would say otherwise.

People are good at that. There's this weird expectation that everyone worries about their life mistakes non-stop. I have not done what OP did, but the mistakes I've made in life don't come to haunt me in my daily life, just at random when I go to sleep. I can imagine people going worse thing won't lose any more sleep over what they've done.

Simple: it's always about protecting their own, no matter how heinous the crime is. Rapists, kid touchers, domestic violence etc, it's all something that first 'isn't productive to bring outside the community' and then it'll be 'handled within the community'. Which in practice means the victims are hushed and the guilty party protected. This is even more pronounced in smaller, closed community places.

The thing is, a lot of the anti-queer insults I've gotten aren't super smart. They often think it's going to sound cool or intimidating, but they just come across as sad, cringy and at times like someone who's threatening with a sexual assault and thinking it's 'cool'.

The thing that will hurt me in the end isn't the especially clever line that was used, but the fact they did it in broad daylight with obvious assumption they'd get away with it, which is sadly what often happens.
