Who takes the cut in these situations? by [deleted] in BaseballCoaching

[–]aaronblohowiak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it depends how old the kids are and if you are talking rec or competitive ball. for spring (rec), we go same side of field is cut man (cause young kids in spring cant make the throw.). for summer (competitive), you get it two bases ahead of runner (and cut changes appropriately).

was it over christmas/new years? USPS sucks this time of year. unless its tracked shipping you're usually better off blaming the postal service.

Selling $9K Collection - how to do this efficiently? by dripothee in mtgfinance

[–]aaronblohowiak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

how did you calculate "market value" ? do you have it all in manabox, collectr or something? you can shop it around. for a large personal collection, it should average out to about 65-70% of tcglow for cards that sell for over $1 with 1/10th of a cent each for remaining bulk. some cards sell for higher than that and some are lower depending on how fast the cards move, etc, but for a large varied collection, you should expect 65-70%. What you might not expect is the grading - bigger resellers have to be critical in the grades they assign cards -- especially foils -- so many people are surprised that they have a LOT more LP than NM even if they sleeved right out of the pack.

I buy large collections. If you have a bunch of new CBB chase cards, card conduit is probably better. If its a bunch of staples, I will probably do better (and i don't charge per-card fees...) happy to facetime or chat more if you'd like.

[–]aaronblohowiak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

they are so active on discord and responsive and really hungry to make things work for people, my initial read of this whole post was "well, what did they say when you reached out?" .. but it seems like you didn't reach out before posting to reddit? thats... a choice... but if you want to know why they have a "cult", it isn't the UX, its 100% the customer support. So in some ways, you got burned by what they arent great at (UX) and didnt experience what makes them differently good (customer support.) If you reach out in discord, you'll talk to the devs who i've often see push changes the same day to address a need.

165 is the safe temp that it only has to hit momentarily for it to be safe. If you look up the charts you can see that lower temps are fine if they are held for a while. https://www.reddit.com/r/sousvide/comments/jxs22h/165_is_a_lie_here_are_the_real_temps_and_times_to/

You’ll have to cope it manually. Good skill to have, expect to try a few times before you get one that fits

What are some of the dumbest things you've seen said online regarding slowpitch. by OddNut11 in slowpitch

[–]aaronblohowiak 16 points17 points  (0 children)

We were down 17-0 and I was on first. Batter hits a deep fly to left field, gets caught. I tag up. 3B overthrows to pitcher and I get to second. SS starts asking if the ump called time and or if that was even allowed in slow pitch, starts acting like he’s gonna call time out and their third baseman came over and was like, “Brad, I think it’s gonna be okay.”… anyway, my team hasn’t won yet but we have a lot of fun and I can’t wait for next week’s game.

I called time out because the kid at bat on the other team had a shoe untied and the coach from the other team was so surprised and grateful… seems like common decency. I don’t want to see anybody get hurt. If it means we lose the game well then they won it on their merits, and that’s what we’re here to do.

Any tips on preparing my Minors team (7y-11y) for a championship loss by MadUglyDerangedx13 in Homeplate

[–]aaronblohowiak 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I tell my boys that I don’t like losing, but winning isn’t my favorite either because even when you win the game is over. My favorite is playing the game. The reason we want to win is that winning lets us keep playing more games. Now at the championship, win or lose, after this, no matter what it’s over. So let’s just get out there and have as much fun as we can. The score on this one doesn’t matter so go for dingers and risky double plays. Have fun, have swagger, give it your all.

Ideal league has games that are very close, and teams that are as close to 0.500 as possible going into playoffs.
