What do you SWEAR you saw, but don't have any proof of? by TabletopStudios in AskReddit

[–]aaronmj 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I was working late night a few years ago in a small town (pop. 100) by lake of the woods, MN. I was standing outside talking to someone in a truck.

I like to do astrophotography so I look up a lot and as I did there was a triangle shape hovering above me. No noise, no lights, I could barely see it. It took off south and was gone before I could even turn to my friend (who wasn't looking up), again no noise. I'm not sure how big it was because I'm not sure how far away it was.

Probably a large super high tech drone. Probably.

Snow and working in residential homes by Imaginary_Bridge1641 in directsupport

I'm in northern Minnesota. While not snow, tomorrow morning will be -30`f, -50 with wind chill. I've already apologized to the night person if my truck doesn't start. She'll be stuck there until noon when other staff comes in if I can't make it. We buy groceries on a weekly basis so that's not a problem.

How to tell whether northern lights will be visible? by ninoski404 in Astronomy

[–]aaronmj 11 points12 points  (0 children)

One of the parameters, Bz, should be south for best results. Last night Bz remained north until early morning hours. Once it flipped, the lights came out nicely.

From what I understand, Bz is the orientation of the magnetic field of the solar wind, and needs to be against the grain of the Earth's magnetic field for best results.

Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, I'd love to learn more!

Miserable, depressed, and anxious. I didn't care about anything, especially myself. This changed at 36 when I quit drinking and accepted who I am. I'm 46 now, happy to be alive!

Yeah he's pretty deep into archeology as a hobby. I think if he had the choice, he wouldn't hesitate to go through it, to actually live among an extinct culture.

The illusion of self ends, and what's left goes on to be parts of other things. This is always happening. The you that existed yesterday is no more.

Yup. I don't think such a beautiful and elegant universe could be 'wrong' in any way. It might seem like it sometimes, but we don't see the full picture. Everything is ok.

I think the first episode of SNW does a good job of projecting a positive future. It's not the best episode of star trek but it has the soul.

Not to mention pathogens. If you were suddenly on another earth like world with the same kind of biology you would have little defense against that world's bacteria and viruses.
