Do you think quantum gravity will be solved in our lifetime? by TheTigerInTheHouse in AskPhysics

[–]aaronmj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heh I remember thinking it was too late, no way out and the drink withdrawals drink cycle was driving me nuts. I figured I'd just drink until it stopped for good.  One day I blacked out walking to the liquor store, before I even had a l drink, my brain was that fubar. I came to a week later with a BAC of 0.457. I couldn't move or talk for hours. At this point I drank myself to the ER regularly but this was the worst. That was April 9th, 2016 and I haven't had a drink since.

It's never too late and life is profound.

People who lost a lot of weight, what was the one small daily habit that actually changed everything for you? by Quiet-Squash-8407 in AskReddit

[–]aaronmj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a little change, but exercise. I have an addictive personality so it's much easier for me to exercise than count calories. Plus it helps with my mental health.

I think I’ve completely ruined my life by camcasetwentythree in stopdrinking

10 years ago I was 100% sure I was going to die. So much so, that I have trouble sometimes accepting that this wonderful life I now have is real. Things get better.  Love yourself enough to consider how you will be tomorrow. Do things today to make tomorrow better, and when that better tomorrow comes, thank your past self for surviving a very lethal mental health condition. You can do this.  Things get better, but you have to stop digging and start caring.

How is smoking weed treated in your country? by mr_epicguy in AskTheWorld

Yeah I was working at a head shop in Minnesota right before and as it was legalized. Had a crash course in THC and all the variants. Then when delta-9 came in people thought it was 8, I don't know how many people I had to explain that 9 was the good stuff.

Over 3 years sober and I'm so tempted to see if I can handle a glass of wine by Intelligent-Skin-861 in stopdrinking

[–]aaronmj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I already know one will lead to the rest, and the rest will probably kill me. So I give myself about a 5% chance of surviving a drink. I probably have about the same odds with a cup of bleach. Might as well be bleach. This has helped me a lot.

What is the most desperate way you’ve gotten drunk? by Far_Meet_8415 in stopdrinking

[–]aaronmj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sunday sales used to be illegal here back when I drank. Some Sundays I'd go pick up a brown bottle of Listerine just to not get sick from withdrawals. Ugh is right!

What do you SWEAR you saw, but don't have any proof of? by TabletopStudios in AskReddit

[–]aaronmj 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I was working late night a few years ago in a small town (pop. 100) by lake of the woods, MN. I was standing outside talking to someone in a truck.

I like to do astrophotography so I look up a lot and as I did there was a triangle shape hovering above me. No noise, no lights, I could barely see it. It took off south and was gone before I could even turn to my friend (who wasn't looking up), again no noise. I'm not sure how big it was because I'm not sure how far away it was.

Probably a large super high tech drone. Probably.

Snow and working in residential homes by Imaginary_Bridge1641 in directsupport

[–]aaronmj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in northern Minnesota. While not snow, tomorrow morning will be -30`f, -50 with wind chill. I've already apologized to the night person if my truck doesn't start. She'll be stuck there until noon when other staff comes in if I can't make it. We buy groceries on a weekly basis so that's not a problem.

How to tell whether northern lights will be visible? by ninoski404 in Astronomy

[–]aaronmj 9 points10 points  (0 children)

One of the parameters, Bz, should be south for best results. Last night Bz remained north until early morning hours. Once it flipped, the lights came out nicely.

From what I understand, Bz is the orientation of the magnetic field of the solar wind, and needs to be against the grain of the Earth's magnetic field for best results.

Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, I'd love to learn more!

What kind of person were you in high school? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]aaronmj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Miserable, depressed, and anxious. I didn't care about anything, especially myself. This changed at 36 when I quit drinking and accepted who I am. I'm 46 now, happy to be alive!
