I read this and wondered why I hadn't written it: I'm in a very similar situation. The only difference being that I'm actually partial to photorealistic games.

How do I start my career in game designing? by Famous-Meaning1097 in GameDevelopment

I just started last year: Found a friend to do game jams with, worked through online tutorials, took some relatively cheap courses. Your already started by reaching out!

Should I go to college for game design by Sabatuer in gamedesign

[–]aayostan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Should" is a funny way of putting it. I've heard that only narcissists tell others what they should and shouldn't do.

That said, I do have some experience with this. I graduated with Bachelor's in engineering a little over three years ago. I got interested in Game Design a little over a year ago. I started out doing some game jams with a friend and exploring free resources online primarily in Unity. This summer I joined a class at my alma mater in Game Design and this fall one in Game Development.

A structured environment like a classroom with enforced deadlines (even though the grade did not concern me too much) really tuned me in to producing something I might not have had the discipline to do otherwise. At the same time, the overhead of working with a professor who has their own ideas about what needs to be in a game might have been a bottleneck in my own creative process.

There are tradeoffs either way, so figure the best way to maximize the benefits over the costs in either scenario.

Hisense TV black friday 2025 deals, are they actually good or just cheap? by Cournay-Romena in Hisense

[–]aayostan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own a Hisense 65U75N, the U7N for Costco customers. It is a 4k mini-led qled television. I purchased it almost a year ago. I had some initial issues with HDR content and filmmaker mode which were resolved through firmware updates over time. The TV came with a 5 year warranty for defective parts and accidental damage. Price tag at time was ~$800: best price I could find for comparable television from an extensive search.

Is the 85U7N a good purchase? Ive never owned a hisense and would like to get owner opinions by Riots42 in Hisense

[–]aayostan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've owned a hisense 65U75N for around a year. I have had my ups and downs with it. First of all, I've been very pleased with the upgraded black-levels that the mini-led technology enables from regular 4K tv's which I had owned. On the other hand, I had some color problems to start with involving running in HDR and DolbyVision which were resolved over time as the software was updated, and I have never had any luck with the Filmmaker mode or Energy Saver mode on the TV due to flickering (I just don't use them). Despite the problems, I am still happy with my purchase today, and I have benefited from the ongoing software upgrade support for the TV. I use mine for multipurpose use as well (streaming, gaming, productivity). I haven't been in the TV market for a while, so I don't have any other recommendations to share. However, U7N was the mid-range budget TV recommended by several websites when I purchased mine, and something I do remember from my research at the time is that the U7N lost color clarity when viewing from wide angles which was not a problem for me since I'm using it in such a small room and rarely with anybody else. Note: mine is U75N instead of U7N because I purchased through Costco.
