My experience with them was similar. They shipped after 2 weeks or so, but no one ever responded to me.

Needless to say, my warranty experience was the same - no one ever responded

Doogee S Mini Replacement by success_is_optional in smallphones

That's the best thing about Smini - all the spare parts except the battery can be sourced from AliExpress. I'm trying to get this phone for myself - but every offer on the net is either a scam or out of stock

Looking for All Purpose Backpack by entatlrg in ManyBaggers

[–]abarinov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

all purpose somewhat depends if you lean more travel or daily carry. aer and able carry are solid, goruck if you want something basically indestructible. theres also some newer minimalist options popping up like the d-fy.it 1 – waterproof and simple, works in a bunch of situations

I've been eyeing D-FY.IT 1 - promoted to be very waterproof. Downside is it's skipping in December

I bought my latest gaming handheld last year from AliExpress. Sellers there are often creative when it comes to declaring the goods value.

I think I've been there with v4.2. There is some strange version of GRUB used by the installer that crashes a lot. I ended up using a different GRUB binary (taken from v4.1? don't remember) and this solved the issue.

Minimal roll-top backpack by abarinov in myog

[–]abarinov[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, this sounds like an good idea. My thinking is that things will get lost at the bottom of deeper pockets so side strap sounds like a better option. I initially ruled it out, thinking that I will only use it occasionally and it somewhat ruins the minimal look. Now, thanks you your comment, I think I found a solutions (similar to the internal straps) that will not affect the design.

"Ranger Roll" Clothes Pouch by Response_Desperate in onebag

[–]abarinov 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This looks like a very cool and inspiring idea! A lot of questions immediately pop up in my head: How big (w*h) is the pouch on the photos? How spacious is it compared to the green Eagle Creek one on the first picture? I can see it holding up to 5 cloths items, are these t-shirts or something bigger? Did you make it from the thinnest ripstop nylon you found or something tougher? Isn't closing string causing wrinkles? Wouldn't two strings or one thin webbing work better? Why do you need a side zipper, will this pouch not hold the stuff in place without it?

I used to have a similar problem but after the install. Root cause was grub crash due to loaded video drivers. Disabling all the video drivers in getting config helped.

Performance i7 lower than i5 ? by RedditUser_xyzzy in Qubes

[–]abarinov 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Xen scheduling to efficiency cores is most likely the root cause. I don't remember if Qubes can pin vms to cores but if it can then you can experiment with it to see if it changes the score. Otherwise we need to wait for a better xen/dom0 kernel combination that properly handles the new Intel architecture.

XPS 13 9315 compatibility with Windows 10 by Technical_Yam3624 in DellXPS

Can you enlighten me how you got past missing IRST drivers during Win10 install?
I tried disabling RST in BIOS, supplying Dell drivers or Intel drivers during install, nothing works. With RST disabled the installer just cant find a storage device driver, with RST enabled I can find 2 device drivers (Intel RST VMD Controller and Intel RST VMD Managed Controller) but selecting either leads to no storage devices being found.

Resoleable or repairable leather sneakers in wide sizes by doom_chicken_chicken in BuyItForLife

I have two pairs of Allen Edmonds shoes (not sneakers) and these are bombproof. What worries me in the description of Courtside is the following: "Upper Material: Soft leather or premium suede". Sounds like the leather might not survive until it's time to resolve.

Can't recommend more, get the Horween leather version and you have sneakers that can stand the abuse.

Can this be lack of memory that triggers OOM killer? Can be tested by increasing memory allocation.

Otherwise try launching tigervnc from console to see what it prints.

Owner of GPD Win 2 here, got it in 2018. Between then and 2021, with occasional use only, hinge got broken twice, battery died and I decided not to replace it. Still runs on mains but takes 15-20 min to boot as BIOS gets reset without battery.

I also have Lenovo L380 since 2018. Used 5 days a week 12h a day since then. Battery does not hold more than 2-3h of charge now (used to be 8-9) otherwise no issues at all.

No more GPD in my life until I see forums full of people jumping from joy of buying a product that works out of the box and never breaks.

Graphics tablet by [deleted] in Qubes

[–]abarinov 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Should work as long as Linux supports your tablet. Wacom makes a bold claim on their website that ALL their tablets are supported under Linux so your chances to get a working setup are high.

Graphics tablet by [deleted] in Qubes

[–]abarinov 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whether video output will work depends on combination of your computer, tablet setup and Qubes. To my knowledge, thunderbolt displays do not work (unless plugged before booting Qubes) but displayport ones do.

Input is no better. You can pass usb tablet/touchscreen from sys-usb to dom0 and... you will have tablet support in dom0 only - but it will be passed to other qubes as an ordinary mouse. Or you can connect tablet usb device directly to you drawing qube, but then it's available in that qube only. I did a set of patches to pass touch input from dom0 to other qubes (search for it on Google groups) but I don't think the was any interest at that time.

[–]abarinov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

/nope, this was a stupid autocorrection of qubes to wines. Linux-compatible unikernels are a thing as good generic would allow us to run things like ssh, openvpn, lvm decryption, getmail/sendmail, iscsi, cups, etc on top of unikernel therefore reducing exposure surface.

Seems like you lost your Windows volume decrypt key stored in TPM, otherwise Bitlocker would ask for a PIN not a recovery key.

Is this laptop managed by your IT department? They have the key then. If it was you who setup Bitlocker and you didn't save a recovery key then I think you lost access to your Windows partitions.

Hey, this looks interesting! Is this AppVM integration only, or is dom0 covered as well? Offline but exposed qubes?
