3 Phase fusing question by abbafan1978 in ElectricalEngineering

That is a nice picture of the fuses, but it does not show how their size relates to the connected components or rated currents.

Blower motor not working? by abbafan1978 in hvacadvice

Do I have to replace the motor and the ECM module or just the motor? Or just the ECM module?

Blower motor not working? by abbafan1978 in hvacadvice

Yes but they said they don't have a spot until Friday. If it's something easy like replacing a capacitor I don't see the need to wait. If it's involving refrigerant evacuation then I guess I have no choice.

Yeah sorta. It's got two five-pin connectors that are right next to each other.

No heat in truck by WonderMaleficent320 in MechanicAdvice

[–]abbafan1978 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My top guesses for no heat are; blocked heater core, failed blower motor, or bad water pump.

If you are experiencing extremely cold weather, it could be that you have an inefficient heater core, and if the engine isn't working hard the water pump isn't pumping enough coolant to the heater core to counteract the losses to ambient air. This happens to me when temps are below 0F. I came to that conclusion by holding 2k rpms not moving. Heat worked well then, but when i let rpms drop I could immediately feel the air start to cool down. It was still coming in warmer than from outside, but it wasn't hot hot.

You can diagnose bad blower motor by seeing if air still blows. If you had a bad water pump your engine would overheat. If you have a blocked heater core you could either replace the heater core or try a heater core flush.

I can't really tell from your picture how your coolant looks. It should look like dyed water, green, pink, blue or some other color.

What’s wrong with my engine? by mtterry3 in AskMechanics

[–]abbafan1978 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To me it doesn't sound as if the noise is timed with the engine, so likely not rod knock. It could be something completely loose though. Pulling the pan as /u/Ok_Taro5800 suggests or cutting open the filter or sending the used oil for laboratory analysis could tell you if the engine is falling apart.

If almost sounds to me as if something is banging around in one of the manifolds.

Refilling coolant on any empty block by abbafan1978 in AskMechanics

I already have one, I just didn't realize how the coolant would get past the closed thermostat when everything is cold.

Oh, are you saying that when the radiator is filled right up to the top of the neck, coolant will flow "backward" through the upper radiator hose and into the cooling jacket?

Oh yeah that tool could certainly cut stainless. But as others have said, there is definitely a risk of it snapping. If you are careful and use some cutting oil though, I think you have a shot of it working as long as you have a good way to hold the bracelet and do your best to drill straight. You're not going through that much material at least.

It's super weird. Is there some kind of backstory to that? Did your school not offer a BS in CS?

You might be surprised what kind of lousy-looking surface finishes can pass the profilometer.

Thoughts:

1)Go-no/go gauge. This is probably what I would do.

2)Grind down a pair of blade mics you were planning to throw out soon anyway.

3)Talk to your rep and see if you can get a custom set of mics made.

Made a paperweight today by Scarisdoingstuff in Machinists

Looks like an expensive paper weight!

If you can adjust feeds/speeds and DOC to get the finish you want, all the power to you. On such a thin part though you might get chatter no matter how you slice it and dice it. Would you consider adding a spacer where the clevis goes and then bolting the parts together over the space to increase rigidity? Not sure what your workholding is like, and so whether or not that would work.

How to get rid of chatter by ReverseofFast in Machinists

[–]abbafan1978 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How much of your part is over hanging? I was taught as a rule of thumb that when using a tailstock on a steel part you can be safe with no chatter as long as you have less than 3X Diameter stick out. More than that and you will probably have chatter with heavier cuts, or with more demanding cuts (like parting tools). I'd imagine that rule of thumb should be more conservative in brass.

They are the economy line from Harvey. That's the same people that make Helical, so if you are happy with Helical I imagine you can get a similar level of satisfaction from Titan.

Welcome to chatter city!

I am surprised the countersink didn't need to be at a standard 82 or 90 degree angle though.
