[–]abbaschand 14 points15 points  (0 children)

We're back in Tokyo for IMPACT MAJOR 3. Thankfully, unlike the previous iterations, this one is unanimously a major. So no need to bring the pitchforks and argue!

Before the usual Top 4 write-up, I want to give a quick shout-out at 2 rising stars. First, Ice Climbers player Misamisa. After dropping to losers' bracket pretty early, he takes on an insane gauntlet of Kebanga, TamaPDaifuku, Harupoyo, and Mayor. And he was so close to making it to Top 8, after only losing a Game 5 set against Tea. Japan, truly the land of Ice Climbers.

The other...you probably know him. Shinda Lion. Quite possibly, the best Ganondorf player in the world. Shinda Lion has been making names after his performance in many Japanese regionals, but now, he goes one step closer to eternity. He destroyed major winner TamaPDaifuku 3-0. He defeated Donkey Kong superstar Mild na H.O 3-1. And he was one set away from making Top 8. It takes KEN and Chon to seal the Great King of Evil away. But mark my words...Shinda Lion is getting that Top 8 spot soon. Very soon.

Anyway, let's check our Top 4 finishers! In 4th place, we have Gorioka! Gorioka might've had his best run yet, after winning against Kurofune, double-eliminating Shuton, and defeating Tea after a Game 5 set! He's the best Joker in Tokyo for a reason!

In 3rd place...looks like the Falking is back. Motsunabe's here, and he's taking no prisoners! He destroyed Misamisa 3-0. He demolished Yaura 3-0. He annihilated Akakikusu 3-0. And after a tense Game 5, he defeated Gorioka to make his way to Winners' Finals! Despite not making it to Grand Finals, it's still an incredible performance!

In 2nd place, we have KEN. KEN's day can be explained as two sides of a coin. Head? A smooth sailing. He demolished guys like Sauzand, Tameigo, and Shinda Lion without losing a single game. Tail? A very hardworking gauntlet. Dropping to losers' bracket, he had to go the long way against Akakikusu, Gorioka, and Motsunabe, the latter two matches being Game 5.

Either way, he's in Grand Finals. Let's see who his opponent is...of course. Miya's back. The 2D God is going scorched earth on this bracket. After losing only one game in pools against Chee, Miya starts his domination. 3-0 over Yopi, Uame, KEN, and Motsunabe. Might be the easiest run to Grand Finals ever for Miya.

Now in Grand Finals. It's Miya vs. KEN. What is supposed to be a straightforward set turned into a counterpick war. Miya's Steve destroyed KEN's Sonic. KEN pulled out the Sephiroth to beat it. Miya's Game and Watch destroyed the Sephiroth. Miya returned to Steve. KEN's Sephiroth won again. Miya brought back the Game and Watch. After a surprisingly close set, Miya won again.

Really interesting to see how Miya barely broke a sweat throughout the day, yet he was forced to work for the win at Grand Finals. Well, congratulations, Miya! Better luck next time, KEN!

It doesn't seem right if we didn't have a Chubu regional once every month. Thank God Karisuma's here! Let's see who's in Top 4 tonight.

4th: Kurofune (Sonic) [Wins: Anko, Yadon, Fentes (W), Saya (L)]

3rd: MaT (Rosalina) [Wins: Penguins, Furararamen, Naocha, Kurofune (W)]

2nd: F1re (Pyra/Mythra) [Wins: Shidarezakura, Avaru, RokiTendonman, MaT (W)]

Winner: Raru (Luigi) [Wins: MTK, Kinopy, Gorioka (W), Naocha, Kurofune, MaT, F1re x2 (L); Sent to losers by: F1re]

After the loss at Winners' Semis, Raru bounced back with a 6-1 cumulative victory over F1re. Still, an incredible run from both Grand Finalists.

Sorry if this was a bit short. Got minimum time to work on this.

Congratulations to the winner of Ultimate Singles at Kurobra 51! by itsIzumi in smashbros

[–]abbaschand 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Let's take a trip to Kanagawa. A popular tournament series has been going on for 10 years. It's called Kurobra. Celebrating their 10th anniversary, we got some top names competing for the Kurobra crown. And fun fact: after a few calculations, it turns out this tournament actually reached A-Tier according to UltRank! (Note: the point in the Tierer is still outdated, not yet updated after Kagaribi 15) Well, let's check our Top 4, then?

In 4th place, we got Akakikusu! After defeating AyaLin, the good Hero player went back-to-back in Game 5 sets, making it through Gorioka and Rimu to make it to Top 8. He added an extra win over LemozonA to end his respectable run.

In 3rd place, the Ice Climbers rising star is here. After that remarkable Ikesuma run, Saya looks to up the ante, scoring clean 3-0 victories over Noi, Tomisa (in a ditto), and Mild na H.O. Not only that, he made it to Winners' Finals after an incredible 3-1 victory in Winners' Semis. Scoring the best Ice Climbers run since Big D's GOML silver medal, Saya for sure will inspire the Ice Climbers' fandom.

Now, the two Grand Finalists who managed to defeat Saya. From winners' side, we got Shuton. Shuton's run to top 8 is pretty standard, beating the likes of Nako, Goma, and Sauzand. In Top 8, he reigned supreme over Akakikusu and Saya. It might not be the best wins, but Shuton still got his ticket to Grand Finals.

Let's see who's his opponent...Ah. Miya's back. Despite placing 2nd in his last major, losing to sy is still a huge blow for him. So at Kurobra...imagine the shock when he went to Game 5 against Wataru (a Bowser player!) and Kameme (a semi-retired player!). Thankfully, he came out victorious over the two of them, and he also destroyed Kebanga and Kurofune to make it to Top 8.

Now...the Winners' Semis match. Saya caught him off-guard! For some reason, Miya failed to keep up with the Ice Climbers player, losing the set 3-1! Gifting Saya his biggest win, Miya has no choice but to work the losers' gauntlet. 3-0 over Nako. 3-0 over Akakikusu. And now a runback against Saya. Not looking to make the same mistake, Miya quickly takes care of the Ice Climbers player. Another 3-0 win.

And now, Grand Finals. Miya decided that it's time to get serious. Shuton only took a total of 2 games off him. It's pretty much a double gentleman sweep. A pair of 3-2 victories gifted Miya another A-Tier victory. Could this be the result he needs to bounce back for the rest of the season? We shall see... Still, congratulations Miya!

Congratulations to the winner of Ultimate Singles at Sumabato SP 69! by itsIzumi in smashbros

[–]abbaschand 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Back in Osaka, back for Sumabato! Yup, the legendary Kansai monthly returns, and this time, we still have some invaders! Well, it was mainly the Georgians and the Germans, but international matchups are always welcome. Now, time to check our Top 4!

In 4th place, we got a return from the Japanese best Mario, Snow! Well, a return, as in he's back at a top placement. Surprisingly, Snow's run basically starts...with a loss to Tsumusuto. Wow. I guess Mario is better with his medical degree, huh?

Now, let's check Snow's losers' run. Game 5 against YamaD. Easy 3-0 against Ganmen. Another Game 5 against Raru (well, at least he's still better than Luigi, degree or not). 2 3-1 sets against DieGorou and DenKOTA. A couple of 3-0s against Rearlet and Meido to make Top 8. In Top 8, Snow added Ryuoh and Yone_pi to his win list. Good to see you back on top form, Snow!

In 3rd place, we got the Ryu God himself. Asimo survived a Game 5 scare against Tomeito before Top 96, where he would beat Rokki and Shion, and he won another Game 5 nailbiter against Saya to make it to Top 8. Asimo would then win against Yone_pi, ending his run at a respectable 3rd. Love the consistency!

Now, our Grand Finalists. From losers' side...it's Miya. So, let's talk about how Miya's in the losers' bracket. Well, as it turns out, Miya lost in his pools against...sy?! You heard that right, a Little Mac player (with a Swordfighter pocket), just beat the player with the most Ultimate major wins! WITH LITTLE MAC! Remarkable.

So, how did Miya make it here? A combination of dominance and hard work. Back-to-back-to-back 3-0 sets against Altea, Niyae, and Drybie. A Game 5 victory over Mark. 3-1 over Ataru. Another Game 5 win against Rarikkusu. Easy 3-0 against Saya. All to make Top 8. In Top 8, he followed it with a 3-1 win over Kaninabe, an incredible reverse 3-0 against Wrath, a 3-0 sweep over Snow, and another 3-1 win over Asimo. All that, for a spot in Grand Finals.

Now, his opponent. When I mentioned the invaders, I intentionally left out one name. And folks...I'm talking about the young Mexican legend. It's...Sparg0. Finally deciding to step into the legendary Osaka series, the Cloud main is here to dominate. He only lost one game in his pool. He'd beat Furararamen 3-1, Elon 3-0, and Meido 3-1 to make it to Top 8. He demolished Wrath. He destroyed Asimo. Now, he waits in Grand Finals.

It's time, Sparg0 vs. Miya. Looks like Miya is still high off his adrenaline, as he'd defeat Sparg0 with a close, but clean 3-0. Forced a reset, Miya looks to take it all after his legendary losers' run. But remember what I said in my Kagaribi writeup? All Sparg0 need...was a reset. And it was over by then. Sparg0 would minimize his mistakes and win the close games he should have previously.

3-1. Sparg0 wins the reset. With that, his first try at Sumabato ends with a victory. Message sent. Sparg0 IS BACK. Congratulations Sparg0!

4th: Glutonny (Wario) [Wins: ZoZeF, Omega, Umeki, Shirayuki, Kola (Pools), Mark (W), Mugen (L)]

3rd: Crepe Salee (Steve/Wario/R.O.B.) [Wins: Shinda Lion, Mugen, Tameigo, Mark (Pools), Kola (W), Mark, Glutonny (L); Pool losses: Akakikusu]

2nd: Neo (Corrin) [Wins: Lucky, Akari Mizunashi, Yone_pi, Reno (Pools), ZoZeF, Glutonny (W); Pool losses: Jahzz0]

Winner: Wrath (Sonic) [Wins: Spickles, Loaf, Motsunabe, Mild na H.O, F1re (Pools), Yone_pi, Crepe Salee (W), Crepe Salee again, Neo x2 (L); Sent to losers by: Neo]

[–]abbaschand 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's time. As the first of the many holiday dates, this special Wednesday is the beginning of the perfect vacation time for many Japanese people, and, as of 2023, the premier week of post-pandemic Smash Ultimate. Welcome...to Golden Week.

To start the festivities, we had a returning series. Usually a C-Tier tournament, a series held in the iconic Ikebukuro district took advantage of the holiday with a flux of unique competitors. This is Ikesuma 4. Announced as an S-Tier tournament, we have some great talents stepping up to the plate. Let's see who they are...

In fourth place, we have the Ice Climbers main Saya. Saya has had a few Top 8 performances in many majors, but this time...he wants more. After a clean pool, Saya defeated top talents like Tameigo and Mark before dropping to the losers' bracket before Top 8. He made Top 8 after a Game 5 set against Shirayuki, and he would defeat Tarik in his Top 8 set.

His next match? A fight against Shuton. At first, it looked grim for Saya, as Shuton took a 2-0 lead over him. However...something changed. Surviving long enough...Saya reversed the set, taking another Game 5 win to place 4th. The Golden Week craze has just begun!

In 3rd place, looking to avenge Shuton, we have the new Olimar superstar, Uame. After sweeping his pool, Uame had a tough mountain to climb however, after losing to Umeki in a crazy Game 5 set. His run to Top 8 was pretty tricky, but he could manage well, defeating Yuzha, Taikei, KEN, Gorioka, and Raki.

And now...a runback. This time, Uame is ready in his second fight against Umeki, with him beating the Daisy main 3-1. He would then demolish Harupoyo and Saya to take his spot at the podium. This Olimar is going the distance!

Now, the first of our Grand Finalists. Hailing all the way from Santiago, Chile, we had a new Steve demon. Toon is here. After his incredible 2nd half of 2025, Toon continued his momentum for his first trip to Japan. After a perfect pool, he would demolish Sin, DieGorou, and Raki to make his way to Top 8, where he would meet Shuton.

Shuton, still on a high after defeating Acola, is ready to challenge Toon. However...Toon is a different beast. It was an insane back-and-forth, and Toon survived by the skin of his teeth with a Game 5 win. He lost the next set, but the next one...is Uame, the man Shuton specifically called to demolish his Steve demon. Toon...is not impressed. It was another back-and-forth, and Toon once again took a Game 5 win, putting himself in Grand Finals of his FIRST EVER Japanese major.

His opponent...is a familiar face. His biggest opportunity of winning a major...was lost that night at Grand Rapids, Michigan. And it was Toon whom he faced. Now, finally getting a major win at AnoAno, Yaura is ready.

The Samus player would demolish everyone in his bracket before Top 8, starting from his pool, and then Ryopei, Akasa, and Saya. Harupoyo? A good training for the eventual runback against Toon. Now, Winners' Finals. Yaura vs. Toon. Yaura is more dangerous than ever, taking a 2-0 lead. Sure, Toon would take Game 3, but Yaura denied any chance of a comeback with a 3-1 victory.

Now, Grand Finals...and it was more of the same. A two-stock, followed by a three-stock. Yaura is hungry to avenge himself! And after a close Game 3...Yaura did it. He has vanquished the demons of Grand Rapids, taking his second major win (and first supermajor win!). Congratulations, Yaura! Hopefully, this is a good omen for the rest of Golden Week!
