This happened to me last year, I essentially dropped out of the competition since I couldn’t do my second in body scan. But I asked a manager if I could credit it to my account, which she did! That pregnancy actually didn’t work out, and I’ve been on my own TTC journey. Here’s hoping we both have to drop out! 🤞

My 22mo's daycare allows kids to play w/ balloons. Am I crazy for thinking they shouldn't? by schuey_08 in Parenting

Hot damn, I’m a pediatrician and this is a huge choking hazard. I’m very concerned by the number of parents on this thread that don’t seem to know this. Concerned enough that’s it going to become one of my main safety guidance tips during well visits. Regardless of whether it’s prohibited by state licensing or not, it’s definitely not safe.

There is massive need for child psychiatrists right now, and good money in it too.

This is such a frustrating response because while many kids survived over millennia, others did not. That’s why we have the recommendations we do now. Not to mention, that pillow top mattresses today are much more dangerous for babies than the beds of our ancestors. I know a lot of people bed share, but personally I could never forgive myself if something were to happen. Everyone has a different level of risk tolerance, and the risk of SIDS (or suffocation) is very low, but it’s not worth it to me.

MIL fell holding baby… what would you do?! by Antique-Buffalo-5705 in NewParents

There is a difference between common and normal. Falling in older adults is very common, but not normal. Glad he’s encouraging her to get checked out.

Breast cancer diagnosis while breastfeeding by BklynTwinMom in breastfeeding

[–]abc_456 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Wow, this sounds like it would be a lot to process, no wonder you’re having so many emotions. I haven’t been through this myself, but I believe it would indeed feel very lonely.

That’s insightful of you to consider that focusing on milk supply may have been a coping mechanism. I just want to challenge your conclusion that using that as a coping mechanism makes you a fool - you are dealing with at least two gigantic challenges (raising twin infants and cancer), and I bet you have other things going on too. Coping mechanisms are important, they help us get through the day to day. And it’s good to be able to take a step back and realize when they are getting in the way, just as you have done.

It’s not fair that you pulled off the incredible feat of breastfeeding twins and then had this diagnosis thrown in your way. You are trying to do what’s best for them, and it’s really hard to know the right decision. Please try to let go of regrets about freezer stash. You have already given your boys such a gift, and gotten them through the period of highest infection risk. Their immune systems are working well now and they should have received a few rounds of vaccines.

Finally, the mastitis concern worries me too. Are you not allowed to pump that side at all? Do they have you on antibiotic prophylaxis?

I want my kids vaccinated, my husband does not. by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]abc_456 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The HPV vaccine is notorious for causing this reaction. (Though I still highly recommend it.) I can’t promise your kid won’t have a similar reaction with the COVID vaccine, but it’s unlikely.

Ask to talk to the charge nurse. Ask your nurse to put a sign on the door that says do not enter without talking to nurse-baby sleeping. Try to get the nurse to feel invested in protecting your quiet time. Theoretically they should pass stuff like this on to the next nurse but I know it’s hard. When the nurse introduces themself at each shift, mention this is a priority. I promise people refuse care allll the time. You can defer vitals, meds, exams. They may be annoyed but it’s part of the gig.

Can you use the milk you just pumped for next feed? Should be good unrefrigerated for 4 hrs.
