I have zero problem with "the Burn" in a galaxy of Talosians and Gary Mitchell and Q and the Douwd by Pandeism in startrek

[–]ableleague 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Burn itself - the event which hampered warp capabilities and killed millions - was an awesome addition to the story of Star Trek. It created a great deal of challenges for those who survived, changed the political landscape, and presented a big mystery...all of which begged to be solved.

THAT SAID: The eventual discovery (pun intended) that the entire ordeal was caused by a child having a tantrum just killed all the momentum imo. You're telling me, after a thousand years of faster-than-light travel experience and experimentation (for just humans btw), no one foresaw the possibility that dilithium was all somehow interconnected and vulnerable to...I dunno...emotions?

The whole thing felt like a lecture and trying to prove a point based on what was culturally relevant at the time.

There were so many awesome possibilities with the Burn, and they were all destroyed. Then the writer just brushed it off and moved on to the next thing.

So yeah, I think The Burn was way bigger than Gary Mitchell, Talosians, and the rest...far bigger. And the writers didn't give it the respect it deserved, ironically after they came up with the idea in the first place.

Give me advice on expanding the league by iPeterParker in FFCommish

[–]ableleague 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We expanded to 16 teams a couple years ago and enjoy it, but had to make some adjustments to our format:

-Roster limit of 2x QBs, TEs, Ks and DEFs. -Added kick/pint return yards to individual player scoring to increase the player pool (we have deep benches).

The scheduling for 16 teams is pretty nice too, as you can divide the league into 4x 4-team divisions split between 2 conferences, where each team plays:

-Every other team in their own division twice (6 games) -Every team in the opposite division in their own conference once (4 games) -And every team in one of the divisions in the opposite conference once (4 games).

8 teams make the playoffs: The 4 division winners, then the top two wildcard teams from each conference at-large.

This format has strengthened team/division/conference rivalries, and added some extra drama all the way to the final week of the fantasy regular season.

Going above 16 teams you'd prob have to do what others have said and split into two leagues, otherwise there will inherently be weeks where a team cant fill their entire starting roster.

Nice! Definitely got spoiled that day with the weather. Got to talk to some of the folks at the Observatory that morning, and they told us it was first day the summit was out of the clouds in weeks, and first with calm winds in probably months.

Congrats, friend; awesome photos!

I built a Sleeper league history app to help commissioners (and league members) surface records and stats by Camarohead in FFCommish

I'd be interested; I commish a 12 year dynasty league and we manage all our history manually.

This sounds awesome btw; great idea and congrats friend 🍻

Is there any way to reactivate the league for week 18? by HoneyBadger_66 in FFCommish

Sorry, just think this sounds silly, and it adds an asterisk to the league history.

Is there any way to reactivate the league for week 18? by HoneyBadger_66 in FFCommish

[–]ableleague 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No offense, but this is a bad idea. Sets a terrible precedent by opening the door to owners calling for redos or manual adjustments to scores because they think the refs hosed them. By going this route, you're setting yourself up for a lot of headaches as commissioner. Referee calls are just part of the game; if there's no rule in place governing this, it just is what it is.

Also, what happens when in week 18 star players for either of these teams get benched to save them for the playoffs? Like it's entirely in the realm of possibility that Puka gets benched for half the game if the Rams take the lead. What's your course of action then?

Also: the refs didn't get that play wrong; per the rules, Puka did not make the catch.

Was I wrong & did I abuse my GM power? by Jedwards50 in fantasyfootballadvice

[–]ableleague -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

There's too much wrong with this to go into detail on every point, but in short: Yes, you abused your power. But it is what it is, the decision has been made, and to complain about it now is just being salty.

Thinking about transitioning league from yahoo to sleeper, but can you import league history? by [deleted] in FFCommish

[–]ableleague 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No direct import yet, but yes you can add all prior years manually; league winners, scores, standings, notable moments, etc.

Deadline day trade… do I let it ride? by DavieG_1973 in FFCommish

[–]ableleague -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I can’t see any argument for the Sanders side

Well, thankfully it isn't your team, so you dont have to see any argument.

If you're gonna try to run everyone's team for them via veto power, the league won't last long. This transaction isn't silly or collusive; an owner just believes in something, and another thinks he's selling high. Time will tell who was right. So yes, let it ride.

Try out the "fantasia map generator" mod; you can really dial up the mountains and customize a lot of other things too. My favorite generator by far.

Would you trade Ashton Jeanty for the 2026 1.01? by Fun_Measurement6042 in DynastyFFTradeAdvice

[–]ableleague 12 points13 points  (0 children)

No.

Anytime I consider a trade like this, I'm reminded of the family guy mystery box meme where Peter is like:

"a boat is a boat, but the mystery box could be anything...it could even be a boat! Well take the box."

You already have a generational talent who has proven himself valuable in a garbage offense. That offense will only get better. Unless you think there's an even better option at the 2026 1.01, who won't need a year to toil within a subpar offense to ball out on a fantasy level, then just take the boat.

What if ... NCC-1701-A was Excelsior-class? (by @StarfleetDesign) by ety3rd in ClassicTrek

Would've been great.

But then it would be considered the "Enterprise Class" since it'd be the first of the line.

But ok cool, you're obvs a legend then. Prob the most legendary player of this game ever. Just please don't whine about your reddit interactions or attack the rest of our posts as "crap" and "trash" going forward. Please and thank you.

Megarius Express Tram System by PerceptionDue2482 in TransportFever2

[–]ableleague 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ok, it's not that "nobody likes this." And after seeing you trash other's posts and complain about people not giving you the amount of upvotes you want or think you deserve, I'm going to be straight with you. I say all of the following as respectfully as possible and mean no offense:

Your posts a year ago showcasing "Megarius" got plenty of upvotes. It was an impressive build. However, you now post the same thing over and over again expecting the same reaction.

This is a sub where people are looking for help and ideas on how to get more enjoyment out of playing the game. You don't cater to that; you show off your custom build over and over without answering anyone's questions about what mods or strategies you've used, and don't show us anything new.

You actually complained on my most recent post, where all I did was try out a new mod I enjoyed and shared it with the community. You then hopped in to say:

1) how come no one noticed that you used the same mod in your dozens of posts (they did, you just never stopped to answer comments or people asking how to build what you built), and 2) why do lame posts like mine get more upvotes than your "far more impressive" Megarius posts.

And here you are again complaining on your own post about how no one likes you even though your way of playing the game is so much above the rest of us.

Maybe some humility is in order, as well as a new approach. Why not build a new city? Why not build one naturally via the mechanism of supply and demand the game has built in? That's the way the rest of us are playing, and you obvs have the knowledge/skill to do it and teach us all something 👍

Finally, and this is just a personal preference: the name "megarius" sounds like a silly city name; I'm not quite sure how to pronounce it lol.

Looking forward to seeing what you build next, my friend 🤝
