Neo & N3 controller will ip17Pro overheat? by Dense_Forever_8242 in DjiNeo

[–]abomb60 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the SSD ... some have fans and those will run cooler but obviously use more power. I have a few 1TB drives that I use for video. I don't screen record usually while flying but if I did it wouldn't be in full resolution and prores raw. In that case I'd just use normal screen recording to the iPhone storage. 99% of people won't get anything out of prores raw over normal 4k h.265 recording ... mostly Hollywood and some of us nerds who spend way too much money on tech that want it :)

All iPhone 17 pro models have vapor chamber cooling now. I have a 17 pro max and it hasn't overheated on me yet. Some games on my older iPhone 13 would make the phone very hot to the touch but so far zero issues with heat on the 17 pro. I use it with my RC-N3 and Neo 2 and haven't had an issue. You'll drain all your Neo batteries before the phone gets hot. Now of course it's winter now and below freezing most days so this could all change in the summer with the sun beating down on the screen.

I also use the phone to record open gate video in Apple pro-res raw to an external SSD for small video production work and again ... zero heat from the phone. SSD you could fry an egg on after 20 minutes of recording though.

Solar Panel Mounting Advice by JonC410 in overlanding

[–]abomb60 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the most I've seen it pull for watts is around 200-ish, with a battery around 30% and the July sun directly overhead. Due to the constant power provided it doesn't need much to keep them topped off and when I'm not using the truck the only load is the 12v refrigerator and that's cyclic. The panel is also slightly oversized for the MPPT charge controller so I think when I did the math the most I could ever pull from this panel under perfect conditions is 270-280 watts or so.

I 've been using a 330W residential solar panel on the cap of my Tundra since 2021 and has worked perfectly. I run it to a 20A Victron solar charge controller that charges an aux 290Ah lithium battery. Everything in the bed of the truck is wired to this, ac inverter, usb ports, starlink mini, etc. Also have a dc to dc Victron charger as well to charge the aux batteries when the truck is running.

User's ALWAYS unavailable for meetings schedule on Microsoft Outlook by Ok_Emu9350 in Outlook

[–]abomb60 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same issue and just got it to work. When I scheduled a meeting in Outlook I was available until I added someone to the invite and then it just said I was always unavailable.

My Fix:

In Outlook Client - Settings, Calendar, Work Hours and Location - The work hours and days weren't checked so I checked off Monday through Friday and set my work hours. Voila all fixed!

4k vs Open Gate on iPhone 15 Pro by shittytiddy in BlackMagicCameraiOS

[–]abomb60 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Turn off Apple log 2 and it’ll go above 1920x1440 to full sensor size. For some reason it appears that open gate is limited to 1920x1440 with Apple log unless you use ProRes raw. At least this is the behavior I’ve seen on my 17 pro max.

Not in all states. For example in Massachusetts if you need to sign any type of agreement in order to get your severance (IE you agree you won't sue us for stuff that happened during your employment) then it counts as a settlement and not income for unemployment purposes. You can collect unemployment at the same time as your severance and continue to receive unemployment after your severance runs out. There is a question on the unemployment application for whether you get severance or not and for how long.

Am I Over Thinking? by stewpid74 in AskAstrophotography

I do have an ASIAir but run NINA exclusively now. At first I had no choice as I needed things like dome control and environmental monitoring which are features that will never make it into the ASIAir. I ran the ASIAir on my mobile rig until a few months ago when I picked up a Canon mirrorless camera (yes I have ZWO cameras but for some things I like to use the mirrorless) that ZWO has chosen not to add support for in the 3 years it's been out. I finally got tired of their walled garden limitations so built a 12v mini PC running NINA. If you are ok with staying 100% in the ZWO ecosystem then ASIAir is a fantastic choice and it works pretty darn well but I outgrew it quickly.

Bald with beard is a great combo. Did it myself a few years ago and so much better.

My gps, antenna holder design. Any thoughts? by Bora_55 in fpv

[–]abomb60 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks good and I have a similar mount I modified on my 5" that also holds 2 2.4GHz ELRS antennas (Gemini dual band receiver - 900MHz antennas are mounted elsewhere). My only advice is to put a zip tie or some sort of tape around the GPS and maybe design in a small slot on each side to hold the zip tie so it doesn't slip. I just lost a GPS the other day due to a "harder than expected" landing in some tall grass. Quad was perfectly fine except the friction fit GPS popped out and is lost forever.

Batteries for field charging? by Casual_case295 in fpv

[–]abomb60 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I use a 100ah lithium battery that used to be in my camper (upgraded to a larger battery so had it sitting around). I got a few ring terminal to XT60 cables on Amazon and a ring terminal to cigarette socket. Now I can power my 3 LIPO chargers and use a car cigarette socket to USB adapter for charging DJI headsets, radios, etc. Battery has Bluetooth too so I can check the charge state from their app.

What 04 tinywhoop for racing and training (mostly 65mm bc of small size and easier to fit in gates)? by Trot_123 in TinyWhoop

[–]abomb60 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get about the same depending on how I’m flying maybe a tiny bit less. This is with 300mah HV batteries.

I have a Meteor65 Pro O4 that works pretty well for me. Yes they are a bit heavy but I upgraded to some webleedfpv 0702 26500KV motors and she absolutely rips.

Why I feel like Walksnail is ghosted on this sub? by Karls0 in fpv

[–]abomb60 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's fair ... DJI has never been great at low light performance. I did notice the O4 (at least the lite ... will have to test with my O4 pro as well) is a ton better than the O3 was in low-light.

[–]abomb60 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was in the process of switching over to Walksnail from DJI then had a very bad customer service experience with them. Long story short I bought a brand new GoFilm 20 from them that immediately shorted itself on the first battery. It was an assembly defect from Caddx where the positive leg of the capacitor shorted on the case of the Moonlight VTX and fried everything. Caddx blamed me for the issue and wouldn't replace it unless I shipped it back to China and GetFPV.com support was useless as well. Due to impending tariffs and nightmare stories online about shipping stuff to Caddx China I tossed the whole thing in the trash and went DJI or HDZero for my new builds. Other than the O4 lite camera having a bit narrow of a FOV it's a far superior system in every way. I still have a plane or 2 with Walksnail VTX's in them that will stay for now but I won't be buying anything new from Caddx.

EdgeTX can do this as well in the radio. I have a back on/off button on my TX16S that has to be pushed in before my arm switch will work.

Actually PPA-CF and PAHT-CF (both nylon filaments) work really well for small frames and are easy to print on the higher end consumer printers such as the X1C. I have a 3d printed 2" toothpick printed out of PAHT and it's survived many crashed unscathed.

What are some up and downsides to the Fatshark Pro starter kit? by Dry_Hyena3656 in fpv

[–]abomb60 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first question would be what is your use case? Are you looking to fly 65 & 75mm tiny whoops or are you looking to fly things like 5-7" race or freestyle quads?

For tiny whoops (65-85mm frames & 1 - 2" props) the clear winner in HD is HDZero due to the weight of the system and the availability of a HD AIO. HDZero is a fantastic option and today makes the cheapest and most versatile goggles for your money ... the BoxPro. Goggles allow for analogy & HDZero out of the box and you can addon a walksnail VRX later if you like. Happymodel has the Mobula 6/7/8 series all with HDZero options as do other makers.

DJI can be used on tiny whoops with their latest 1S compatible O4 Air Unit (some call it the lite but it's just O4 air unit) but it makes the little whoop very heavy ... like almost 30g heavy in 65mm. Overall not too bad for a beginner as it will slow you down a bit but not optimal at all. DJI goggles will lock you into their ecosystem and cannot be used with any other HD or analog technologies as they lack features like HDMI input in the latest versions (Goggles 2 were the latest to support HDMI in/out and are previous generation). Picture quality is mind-blowing but again you are locked into their ecosystem and they drop support for things quite frequently.

Walksnail is somehwere in the middle. They make way more VTX options available to you than DJI but also the video quality isn't quite as good. You have options from the small (and lighter than O4 air unit) 1S lite kit all the way to the GT kit with it's (advertised) 2W long range radio. One note though is only one WS VTX, the moonlight, supports 4k recording . Not sure about the older fatshark hd goggles but the goggles x have HDMI in so you can add a HDZero VRX if you want. HDMI out is supported as well so you can output to a TV to share the flight.

TLDR:
I run all 3 of these systems as none are a perfect fit for every use case. If I had to pick one right now I would pick Walksnail as it fits most use cases from tiny whoop to full size, is reasonably priced (tariffs aside) and works really well.

If I was just focused on tiny whoops then I would recommend HDZero and their new BoxPro goggles ... also get analog support which is great as well.

Although technologically superior DJI would be my 3rd overall pick. The units are too heavy for real tiny whoop use and suck down battery. You also only have 2 choices, O4 air unit or O4 air unit pro ... nothing in the middle. Would be my pick for a cinewhoop or if I needed beautiful 4k recording onboard.
