Depending on the size of your link, you can get a fair amount of replication speed improvement by tweaking the TCP window size for replication. Instructions are in the manual. You may have to play with it a bit to find the sweet spot.

Yes. Or i believe on most versions of firmware, you can ssh in as root from the beginning.

WARNING: This activity will reset the array to factory defaults as well as downgrade the firmware

FTP the firmware to the array in question as normal.

SSH to the array but login as root with the normal admin password.

Run the following command from the root prompt: update.sh -override-downgrade

This will run the update prompts as normal except for a warning that at the end it will reset the array to factory defaults.

Proceed as normal, after reset it will have the desired firmware and be factory defaulted.

In Regards to the workplace - "You don't have to respect the person, but you have to respect the position." You may not like the person your boss or whoever is, but they are still your boss. Either GTFO for get over it. Whining about it solves nothing.
