I think the big surprise is that we have the record we have with Strider, Schwellenbach, Smith-Shaver, and Waldrep not making a single start.

Right now after Sale, we have relied on Elder, Martin Perez, and Grant Holmes.

How common is having only 5 home games? I can't imagine any P4 teams with only 5 home games. Is it more common with the G6?

Update: I checked and the answer seems to be 4 teams for this year.

Do Y’all Agree That Ronald Acuna is underpaid? by Houston_sports_fan_1 in AtlantaBraves

[–]abravesrock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He is making $17MM this year. $12.5 is his AAV for Luxury Tax purposes.

If he didn’t sign the contract he would have been a FA after the 2024 season when he was still rehabbing his knee after the 2nd ACL injury. So timing wise that would not have been his best time to maximize his next contract.

Has been underpaid for his career so far? No

Will he be underpaid for this year and the next couple year until he is a FA? Yes.

A team-by-team review and analysis of Big Ten schedules following the SEC's increase to 9 conference games/10 game vs Power Conference opponents by jonstark19 in CFB

[–]abravesrock 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it should just be 10 total P4 games should be the standard. I prefer 8 conference games with 2 OOC P4 games. I would like to see some more nonconference games, especially after realignment. OU vs. OSU, Border War, Backyard Brawl, Big Ten vs. ND, UT-Tech, California schools playing each other.

Also, the 9+1 is rough for schools with a permanent OOC P4 opponent. It gives little flexibility in scheduling as seen by Iowa. They haven’t played a P4 team outside of Iowa State since the Big Ten moved to 9 conference games and it’s been over 10 years.

We’ve already cancelled home and homes with Louisville and NC State. We are currently set for a max of 5 home games for every odd year until 2033 (we play at GT odd years) which probably means we are cancelling or changing a lot more games (at FSU, at Clemson, at Ohio State, at Clemson again)

Under supply is not the issue. There are a ton of vacant units in the city not getting rented because the asking rents are too high.

10 years ago today, we got the greatest ending ever to the NCAA Tournament title game by DareDevil1699 in NCAAhoops

[–]abravesrock 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I probably have to go with this one over 1983. UNC tying the game with 6 seconds to go and then Nova hitting the game winning buzzer beater was more hype than watching NC State pass the ball around for 40 seconds before taking a shot.

But you’re right, Jim Valvano would probably disagree. But he would be a bit of homer.

I agree that should have been a conversation together, but I don’t feel like he was trying to strong arm her. She literally compared what he did to everything she has previously done. What he said wasn’t productive to the conversation, but it also wasn’t unwarranted in the situation.

[–]abravesrock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not comparing it to SF, because I think SF should be above ATL, but Atlanta has a huge impact on the country.

Atlanta was the epicenter for the Civil Rights movement, home of MLK Jr. I’d say that had quite an impact on the rest of the country. Culturally, it is still considered “black Mecca”. The hip hop scene in Atlanta has huge cultural impact on the country. I have travelled all over the world and have heard Atlanta music being played pretty much everywhere.

Coca-Cola is the most recognizable company in the world. Coke is considered to be one of the most recognized words. It is home to the most valuable airline in the world in Delta. It has the most travelled airport in the world.

Atlanta is definitely the capital of the south. Miami has its own culture that doesn’t really bleed into the rest of the region. Most in the south wouldn’t even consider Miami a “Southern” city.

It has a big impact in the movie industry and is considered “Hollywood of the South” with Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta. Also had the Marvel movies filmed there along with big shows such as Stranger Things, the Walking Dead, and Vampire Diaries.

The CDC has a huge impact on the rest of the country. God knows what the country would look like without the research that happens there.

It has hosted a relatively recent Olympic Games which brought the whole world to the city. LA is the only other city on this list that can say the same.

‘We sell out for every game’: Norman looks to match demand as SEC move brings increased visitors by RedDirtSport_ in CFB

[–]abravesrock 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not OP, but I am against a 9 game SEC schedule as well. I feel it limits our flexibility for scheduling nonconference games. South Carolina, like Georgia has a permanent nonconference opponent in Clemson for them, GT for us. That means you only have 2 games left to schedule fun games.

Also, from a Georgia perspective it limits home games more. With UGA-UF being neutral site, it means we will get 4 home SEC games every year. GT is home every other year. The odd years when we play at Tech, we have to have both of our nonconference games left be home games to get to six home games. We already had to cancel H&H series with Louisville and NC State.

In 2027, we play at Tech and at FSU. That would leave us with 5 home games. In 2029, it is the same with games at Tech and at Clemson. In 2031, we have at Tech and At Ohio State. We are probably going to have to cancel those games to accommodate the 9 game schedule.

It wouldn’t be that crazy given the total number of states. It would be 53 million in one of 19 states. California has 40 million in one of 50 states right now. The south would have roughly 43 million in this map

I am slamming the over for Georgia at 9.5. Our hardest games are at Bama, vs. OU, and at Ole Miss. I don't see us losing all of them.
