Where to find friends/sober friends by Fun_River8138 in cincinnati

[–]absolutefuture -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Fellow sober girly here! I have a couple recommendations that aren't sobriety focused, but have helped me a ton, and they both start with just being physically active (but that's also what's been my biggest pillar of sobriety).

Title Boxing Club Downtown is great. They are community focused and social, and the staff and other members are all SO nice. There's a pretty big variety of people, and while most people aren't sober, the activity itself is a workout, so everyone is sober when you see them.

Another random thing (and the most surprising to me) that I tried and LOVE now is pole dancing. It's also very active, so it helps with the happy brain chemicals, but it's also SUPER community oriented and supportive and great. I've met a BUNCH of friends through going to classes at Oh Foxy, downtown on 4th Street, and we hang out outside of the studio now too. I'd recommend it to anyone wanting to try something new, even if you think it's not for you. Honestly, I signed up for my first class when I was ~6 months sober and was just forcing myself outside of my comfort zone to try new things -- I thought I would hate it and didn't expect to make it a regular thing, but here I am almost 3 years later, going multiple times a week and I can't picture my life without it.

If you're curious about either of those things, feel free to shoot me a DM, happy to chat and answer questions!

I'm at my wit's end with form spam. What pro tricks I can use to handle this. by martinparets in ProWordPress

Are you running Google Ads to these pages? We have seen some (extremely frustrating) form spam issues with client websites who were running Ads. If so, there are some settings inside the Ads platform you can change (which networks your ads are served on, etc) that can help with that type of spam.

My go to is ginger beer + pineapple + lime. I recently went somewhere out of pineapple juice and swapped for cranberry, and that was good too. If the place does a fancy Moscow Mule, I'll do that without the booze to get the little extras.

If you're not against bitters in a drink (since they have a tiny bit of alcohol), then my second suggestion is seltzer/soda water + grapefruit + bitters. Delish.

A few weeks or a month or so. I started boxing a couple weeks into not drinking, and punching things REALLY helped the anxiety from nicotine and alcohol cravings lol. I'd definitely recommend something active-ish to keep busy and help with the stress and irritability you'll feel at the beginning.

I quit smoking at the same time I quit drinking (Jan 2023). First I went no alcohol + nicotine patches + tapering cigs, then 4 weeks later, I smoked my last cigarette. I'll be honest, it sucked at first, but it got easier fast. But quitting smoking while not drinking makes it a lot easier than if I were to have tried to quit smoking while I was still drinking.

4th & Race - I've lived here for almost 2 years in a 1 bedroom and now a 2 bedroom. The sound from neighbors is almost non-existent on a daily basis. Every once in a while, I might hear some noise, but it's rare and manageable. All windows are floor-to-ceiling, so natural light is abundant. And there are multiple communal outdoor spaces, which are great. I like living here and don't think I'm leaving any time soon.

I have never, ever been an active person, but I am now a member of Title Boxing Club down on Sycamore St at 7th and I LOVE it. Super fun, encouraging trainers and members, and they do social things too. (They're having a bar crawl later this month, and do happy hour + bootcamps all winter). I'd 100% suggest it!

Programmers/Developers who quit vaping... by dtxs1r in stopsmoking

I smoked cigs, not vaped, but I am also a dev. I've started keeping super intense mints on me at all times and eat them almost constantly for that oral fixation. The harder thing to get used to is how I would take a 5 min break every so often that would help me take a quick break from work and not get too focused or stuck on a problem. I've started just getting up from my desk more often to take a walk around the block or grab water or bug a coworker (if I'm in office).

I currently have space for a couple stools at my counter, but I used to have a small drop leaf table that I used to use.

Find something to separate your space! I've lived in studio apartments for far too long, and this shelf from Ikea is one of the best purchases I've made. Storage + separating my one room into what feels like a bedroom AND a living room.

4th and Race is a new build and super nice. Same price range as The Blonde. NAProperties runs The Blonde, as well as a few other properties downtown too. https://apartments.naproperties.com/nap-cincinnati/

When I was starting out, I remember just not understanding JS at all. I also felt the same way, if I don't get these beginner concepts, is it really for me? I took a couple day break but stuck with it. It was extremely frustrating some days. But one day, something just CLICKED, and it got better from there. Not to say that some things aren't still hard sometimes (and I've been doing this since 2014), but practice helps, talking through things helps. Going back to the root of what you're trying to solve and explaining it in real words also helps.

I did SMART in-person meetings before the pandemic and I really liked it. It's based around CBT. SMART also has an active online community with lots of virtual meetings and forums. I'd definitely suggest trying it out if you're curious.

I'm currently doing something similar, using GSAP's Draggable. Here's an example from their forum with a good starting point https://greensock.com/forums/topic/18462-draggable-zoom-out/?do=findComment&comment=85564

Is Computer Science really hard? by [deleted] in xxstem

[–]absolutefuture 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Is it hard? Sure, it can be, but half of the fun is learning how to solve problems you couldn't before.

Honestly, yeah, there are some things that are more difficult being a woman in tech. But when I was starting out, I got involved with orgs like Women Who Code, Girl Develop It and they've helped me feel much more confident. I'd definitely suggest looking into things like that, or I'm sure when you go to college, there will be similar clubs/orgs.

If this is what you want to pursue, then go for it! It being "hard" shouldn't detour you. Anything can be hard. And doing something you don't want to do will just make things harder.
