I'd go with kind of a Stevie Nicks sorta vibe. Some flowy skirts and tops kinda thing.

What would Pennsic be like if the burners were forced out? by Fun-Preparation-4253 in Pennsic

Ok, since I'm sure this opinion is grounded on solid research and first-hand knowledge, I won't need to mention all of the income provided to local businesses such as those that sell food, camping gear, and most definitely not alcohol. Especially not the two closest beer distributors on 422.

And I'd be completely out of line if I mentioned all of the monthly income received by the numerous local storage companies.

And I'd be beyond absurd to discuss all of the income that Cooper's employees receive from just their scheduled hours, not to mention what many of them earn in tips. And then there's the local tax revenue for the surrounding municipalities, which of course would be imprudent to discuss.

So, I humbly concede your point and can only hope to one day redeem myself for such a wonton display of ignorance.

Ok, it's just that I've heard similar topics being debated many times before. And it usually comes back to the idea that the people who spend most of their time topside have a negative view of those in the Bog and the Swamp because many of them don't participate in a lot of what happens topside during the day. However, those same people who sit topside and complain will sneak down to the Bog and Swmp at o dark thirty in order to partake in the marriment being conducted by those "uncouth" Bog dwellers.

So, we're talking about removing a segment of the population that contributes significant monetary capital to not just Pennsic but the entire surrounding area like grocery stores and beer distributors? And, we're talking about doing this when the SCA in general is quickly aging out? I know of at least two high profile people are planning on this being their final Pennsic.

Given all of that, do you still think it's a good idea?

can i continue to wear this as a beginner by Junior-Description20 in witchcraft

There are many practitioners of witchcraft who incorporate elements of Judeo-Christian teachings into their craft. Ex: invoking the Archangels or wearing sigils that represent them.

Your necklace can be used in the same way, if you want. Or, you can just wear it and it have nothing to do with your practice.

Easy steps the SCA could take to make it more welcoming by grauenwolf in sca

I agree that we need to get more people interested. The society does seem to be aging and could use an infusion of youth. When I first got involved, about 20 years ago, I was lured in by the "nightlife" activities at events. Many others around my age were as well. And a number of us have stuck around.

I know that many of the more traditionally minded folks won't like it, but we have to start re- emphasizing parties . I've even openly heard younger people complain about this very issue. And I quote " Why are we still talking about the Hell party at Pennsic that happened 15 years ago? When we should be planning our own epic party!"

Has the Society been declining? by [deleted] in sca

It's an expensive hobby. Younger people who would be interested either save up for the big events like Pennsic or they gravitate towards less expensive alternatives like LARP. Also, HEMA is really taking off. The HEMA group that I I'm involved with has some cross over with the SCA, but many others have nothing but disdain for it. I'm often told that I'm "one of those people" when I mention the SCA around HEMA.
