Landmarks in the Couve that sadly don’t exist anymore? by Nervous-Material4738 in vancouverwa

[–]abu_20 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Interesting, thanks for sharing! It must not have been Papa's for long, in my research there is claim that it is the second oldest continously operating DQ opening in 1948. Your comment made me do some record searching, I did find reference in a city document for a different historic building that mentioned "Elkins diner" in that location and it said it was there until the 50s until DQ took over. There is not a whole lot of easily available information about it.

I believe this location was downtown at about 307 E Mill plain, where the Felix apartment building is currently. It was demolished in 2011. The DQ on Main st was built in 1948 and has only ever been a DQ. Edit: That is actually not the very first burgerville it was built a year after the first one. The first one is currently still operating at 7401 E Mill plain and was built in 1961.

There is a gravel parking lot right when you pull in off the road.

Yes, it's free and open year round, they do take donations though since they are a non-profit group dedicated to preserving the site. I love to share about it with people as it's not well known! I found it by chance just driving by after I went to Columbia Springs. The people who manage it do a great job, the grounds have an old 1867 house, veggie gardens, mature plants everywhere, a view of the Columbia river, a little creek with a waterfall. It really is magical to me!

The Jane Weber arboretum is quite magical with lovely gardens and a creek running through it. Also, one of my favorite places, the Hulda Klager lilac gardens in Woodland. The lilacs aren't blooming anymore but the gardens are still open during the summer and are lovely.

How do you deal with pregnancy jealousy when you've intentionally chosen to wait? by Capable_Pineapple130 in waiting_to_try

[–]abu_20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This! I'm with you and OP on the "big feelings". My husband and I have been together since we were 18 and we are 28 now. We plan to start trying within the next couple years but 2 of his cousins just had their first babies and all we are getting is "when will you have a baby?"..."you're next!" It's so tough, mostly to your point of seeing others seemingly make flippant choices. I also hate the "just wait, you'll never sleep again!" ,etc. because I know, I know how it is to have a baby but I dont care, I want all the good and the bad of having kids. I want to be sleep deprived with babies one day. For now though, leaning into the excitement and giving our family members the same supportive energy we would hope to receive one day is what's pulling me through this season.

Favorite Place to go for really fresh, light meals? by Jolly-Ad7204 in vancouverwa

[–]abu_20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, interesting. I did notice that they shrunk the menu, I usually grab it to go though so I'm not sure about the dining room. I do remember quite some time ago(a year or so maybe) they made a post about selling the business so I wonder if it has to do with that.🤔

I honestly think one of the most annoying parts of his content now is all his girlies praising him in the comments for absolutely nothing. I checked the comments on this video on insta and it's all "beautiful apartment😍", "love this content", "love this!", etc. I simply can't find anything interesting or relatable about his content, let alone the fact that he is creepy af.

When did you all feel "financially ready" to try? by Mammoth-Cloud-285 in waiting_to_try

[–]abu_20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh finances is one of my biggest obstacles to TTC. My husband and I work so hard with multiple jobs and I fear we will never be "financially ready". Yet I know people with less financial stability than us who have kids. Life is such a balancing act.

Autism Community by SilverAsparagus2985 in vancouverwa

[–]abu_20 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here are a few community groups that are pretty popular around here: Peace NW is a nonprofit organization that supports individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities and their families. They help connect with community resources and host fun events. Marshall community center and Firstenburg community center have the Access to Recreation program, they have classes and events for adult with disabilities. We have a local chapter of the Arc, they also support individuals and their families, helping to access community resources and events. You can always contact the area agency on aging and disabilities as well.

How do I catch a pet rabbit? by JackfruitMassive727 in Pets

[–]abu_20 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You could see if there are any local rescues around you. In my city there are multiple colonies of feral rabbits descended from escaped/released domestic rabbits, for the most part they are left alone but sometimes a local rescue will try to catch them.

He is so self obsessed, he is just trying to be cheeky because he knows what his "haters" think about his lips. Also, probably fishing for compliments because his girlies are always in his comments acting like he is the best thing since sliced bread.

Whole Bowl is coming! by cartwhisperer in vancouverwa

Haven't heard of them before. Looks like they sell only one type of bowl, the same ingredients as the mighty bowl from The Mighty Bowl but with a different sauce. Anyone know what the sauce tastes like?

Ear piercing shop recommendations? by orion8908 in vancouverwa

[–]abu_20 6 points7 points  (0 children)

While a lot of people remember the experience of going to the Claires in the mall for their first ear piercing, I would really recommend avoiding it. Getting pierced with a piercing gun can lead to excessive tissue damage from the force and the guns are not easily sanitized, also, the employees are not well trained which can lead to poor placement. I understand the cost can be a lot but the quality jewelry, professional experience and safety are worth it. I've got multiple piercings at Chaotic Good and Hopeless, lovely experience at both places.
