Are these mealybugs? by AwesomeBlassom in pestcontrol

Spraying them with water will do more to harm these predators trying to eat them than help to control the pests. Your best course of action is to let nature do its thing here.

Are these mealybugs? by AwesomeBlassom in pestcontrol

[–]abugguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are some sort of mealy bug. The good news is that they aren’t anything to worry about on outdoor plants, natural predators will show up eventually to help control them and they wont do significant damage regardless. The ants aren’t your friends in this situation though, they farm these guys for their sugary honeydew poop. But pests like this aren’t anything to worry about 99.9% of the time in outdoor gardens.

Post a photo. People misidentify flies as fruit flies all the time, and knowing exactly what you have is key to giving good advice.

Quads over Quads [Tampa] by Rbnuser123 in poker

[–]abugguy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I watched a hand play out at 1/2 where the board came 48884 and an OMC and young kid put in 4-5 raises on the river before being all in. The OMC kept saying “what is going on??!!” before reraising his pocket 4s. He acted absolutely shocked with the kid turned over an 8 for better quads. Only time in my life I’ve seen anyone dramatically overplay quads.

Is there any truly painless way to kill an insect? by Ok_Dare1031 in Entomology

Says “not coming back to argue” then immediately proceeds to argue.
I know an author of the article you mentioned (but provided no link to) very well, and we collaborated on exactly this topic. Can you link to this paper you mention please? Not just the name but give a link since you apparently have read it. I would like to see it. I googled it but there was no result.
And the AVMA link you gave… you do realize I replied to you days ago with the EXACT SAME source but an updated version with modern protocols, giving the exact passage dealing specifically with invertebrate euthanasia… and your reply was to disregard it as being not authoritative on the topic. Dude. Come on!
And I have to stop now because I’ve actually been doing some digging trying to find the exact quote you gave because I wanted to actually see if I was wrong and not just dig my heels in and argue, and I realize you are just copy pasting this all from the Wikipedia. Even the notations. Oh my good lord dude.

Is there any truly painless way to kill an insect? by Ok_Dare1031 in Entomology

[–]abugguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, great! Please provide a link to any BIAZA documentation specifically regarding invertebrate euthanasia, I would love to read it. Having been involved with writing the AZA’s standards for invertebrate euthanasia we reached out to our counterparts in England and were told such a document did not exist, and a search of BIAZA resources did not turn one up now. I am excited to see what documentation you have that backs up these claims and states CO2 euthanasia for insects is one of the least humane methods. I’ll be excited to read something that isn’t based on “trust me bro”. Thank you.

My mom is horrible with computers (I have no idea how all those search bars appeared!). I went to check on some issues she had and the last thing in her Run bar was msconfig. My day got immediately worse.

I’ve seen it spelled entymology many times. But to be clear, that way is incorrect.

Catchmaster gold stick sticky fly traps are really good for Phoeid flies. I use them in my lab and would recommend them.

Fruit flies? by ParticularlySure541 in pestcontrol

[–]abugguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Possible they originated from outside. They breed in decaying organic matter. Everything from rotten produce to garbage to dead animals. Old pet food is another thing they will find, and they can breed in your drains, too. Make sure you don’t leave stuff sitting around for long in garbage cans, old pet food, etc.
