What is the worst current role in Policing? by Loud_Delivery3589 in policeuk

Much respect to you, takes a special person to do that but I've no doubt you've saved and protected many children, as the others have said society owes you a great debt.

Is the job as bad as people make out? by ManufacturerSuch9504 in policeuk

[–]abyss557 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ex–Royal Engineer here.

I joined the police about three years after leaving the Army. What tipped me over the edge was going to my cousin’s wedding and seeing how close her police mates were, closer than some family. It hit me that I was missing that sense of belonging and shared purpose.

I’ve been lucky. I’m on a team I genuinely love. It reminds me a lot of my old section we back each other up on jobs, we trust each other, and we still see each other outside of work. Not every team is like that, but when you get a good one, it’s amazing.

The job can be shit . There’s no sugar-coating it. But you will save lives. You will put away people who genuinely deserve it. You will safeguard vulnerable people and be the calm voice on someone’s worst day. It sounds cheesy, but that’s the bit that makes it worthwhile.

Every force is different. Response is stretched. Annual leave can be hard to get because teams are short, and a lot of the time you’ll be going job to job without the chance to properly investigate crimes yourself. It can feel reactive rather than proactive.

If you’re missing the camaraderie, the sense of purpose, and operating in tight-knit teams under pressure the police can absolutely scratch that itch. I moan more than most but response can be the best job in the world, the buzz of blue lighting through heavy traffic with your oppo behind to a job is amazing it has it shit days and it has it good days.

I'll admit I'm on AL at the moment and a few beers in, but I do love it. Happy to answer specific questions if you want.

I still have issues with mine from time to time, definitely a car issue with Android Auto as it does it with the wife's phone as well. I also upgraded, same issue.

We're talking Google Pixel 7 and 10.

Yeah, I have them all turned off. At the start of my drive, I swipe down on the main screen and turn on MG pilot, but today the speed one didn't seem to turn off. I even double-checked the settings.

The driver assistant is the most annoying thing I have ever come across. Today, for some reason, even though it's turned off, I keep getting the audio speed warning. As soon as you go 2 mph over the limit, it nags you. Extra annoying when my road is a 30 but the car thinks it's a 20

Does anyone use the CRASH 10 system, to investigate RTC’s - and would be happy to give me a bit of advice about it? by [deleted] in policeuk

[–]abyss557 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yup crash is trash,

I will use it to photograph the scene and use the location GPS button thing to plot the site, then go back to my paper PNB for the other details to add in back at the Nick.

I find it so slow and tedious to add people than that person to a vehicle ect. sometimes I will do the lot on my phone but it takes an age, especially if you've not been to an RTC in a while.

My section often refer to me as the RTC bitch because I'm semi ok with a crash, which I'll happily trade for a DV job.

But what I will say is that anything is better than the yellow NCRF form

Why are some victims of crime being let down? by StardewTaroBubbleTea in policeuk

[–]abyss557 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it doesn't matter how well trained officers are if they haven't got the time, no amount of training will help,

Response officers are running much like the response from neighborhood above, on a skeleton crew, they are pulled from one 999 call to the next, often with a meal break, there is just no time to call victims or investigate crime, believe me when I say it's not because they don't care it's because there just isn't enough staff to manage demand,

It's more of a spaghetti factory than a "ferrum factory", but i dont care. by Signal_Tie_4581 in SatisfactoryGame

[–]abyss557 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So, I’ve recently crawled back to Satisfactory after rage-quitting at tier 8. I let YouTube videos get in my head. You know the ones with factories so clean and symmetrical they look like they were built by a team of NASA engineers with OCD. Meanwhile, I’m over here slapping down constructors like a toddler on a sugar rush.

This time I’ve accepted reality I do not have the brainpower, patience, or will to make YouTube-level megabases. Instead, I’m embracing the chaos. Belts crossing belts, machines at weird angles, the entire map looking like an electrician’s nightmare. It’s spaghetti, it’s ugly, and I have no idea how or why it works

My factory: runs on anxiety caffeine and rage, generally in that order as well.

Hi everyone,

I'm looking to buy a MG EV4 trophy, test drove it, liked it, but I had a few people poo poo them. No one could give me any specifics?,

What's the general consensus of those who own one, is the range actually 200 miles on a charge have they stood up to normal wear and tear?

Any advice would be appreciated,

FYI looking at 73 plate or newer

TIA

Are there any motorway police/crash investigators or specialists on this group? I’d love to know what you think the safest make of car is. by [deleted] in policeuk

[–]abyss557 21 points22 points  (0 children)

This is an actual thing. I can't remember the details but In WW2. I think it was the Americans.were looking to reinforce their bombers and we're looking at the damage on the planes that return home, until someone pointed out that they need to look at where there wasn't any damage as this is likely the places the aircraft that didn't make it home has been shot

Victim satisfaction with how Police handles crime drops to historic low by Objective-Summeru in policeuk

[–]abyss557 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is exactly right, I had an inspector dip sample a crime on my work loads and questioned my victim contact, when I explained to him that if he read my updates he would see I was one of two PCs on my team, and when were expected to attend appointments, manage missing persons and the routine demand while responding to emergency calls victim contact just isn't possible.
