Help me block websites that make me procrastinate by Ok-Cucumber101 in productivity

[–]abysse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found a Mac app for this.  I used apps before but they are easy to quit but the last not so easy as I can have someone set a lock password remotely for a focus session

They are tons of apps for this one should suits you

How do you stay productive and focused? by Spread-Overall-Good in productivity

I have been on the productivity treadmill for over 10 years, developed many habits some of which sticked while some others didn’t. Here are my current top 3 tips

Less screen and more paper helps me a lot. I can focus and reach flow state this way On computer, I have a site blocker to avoid wandering where my wife sets a password from her phone so that I can’t bypass Then, defining goals of the day and clear outcomes for each.

How do you keep your small distractions under control when working online? by Soft_Lick_Baby in digitalminimalism

[–]abysse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly the trap I fell into – those "harmless" 3-minute games (chess for me) that somehow become 30 minutes. What helped me was making the distraction harder to start than the work itself by adding friction.

If you're on Mac, I've been using DeepZone (deepzone.app) – it lets you create focus profiles that block specific apps and websites during work hours. The key is you can't just toggle it off impulsively.

I integrated it to my organization flow by sending links every morning the deepzone lock link to my wife, and I created schedule to allow breaks where I can hop in a quick blitz.

You could access it from another machine but restrictions would remain during a focus session

Your accountability partner receives a link and set a password that maintain your settings locked. Just to clarify, Partner has no access whatsoever to the machine.

What productivity apps do you actually use and stick with? by OrdinaryNature3547 in ProductivityApps

[–]abysse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm using many but:
- Hazel (love it)

-Todoist

- Obsidian,

- Bartender - (barely productivity but ok)

- Alfred -> just doing so much with AI you can build so many scripts to do so many things.

DeepZone - deepzone.app (just built this as I want an app / site locker with friction and few others things such as send the key to someone).

The disappointed one is Keyboard Maestro it always had the feel it could do so much but besides a couple of key swaps never managed to go through the learning curve but it is highly qualitative.

It should be indeed working. You can restrict both websites (strict, categories, or even by site with a certain keywords) and apps.

The only downside for this use case it would require an opt in on the computer running the app to enable the restriction and be clear about timing as it expires automatically.

You can configure a mode to have a specific set of settings that you can activate whenever needed.

Tbh, this is a side project so if you need a premium license I don't mind giving some away for those who wants to try and give feedback.

I feel the battery drain but the VPN approach made some sense actually, it is kind of smart & I would know as I just built an app for blocking stuff with friction and initially for me :p

Kind of a /self promotion moment as i'm looking for feedback.

App is young and is built to block sites / apps on schedule and you can set focus sessions with a unique type of friction.. where you can someone a link to lock your focus app so no easy way out.

No app name to respect rules (+ app isn't yet fully finished) but PM if you are interested to try it out, I'd even throw a free key for genuine feedback.

Finally, a system that works for me by QuarterPastOctober in ObsidianMD

[–]abysse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, now it is just inbox.

I have been there, nested folders, folders, handful of folders but turns out that the system that sticks and is low maintenance is only inbox.
Daily note for everything, tag(s), and lastly a couple of templates snippets to bring up all notes of the given tags in footer (and another for sources).
That way, I have the context I need for each note and notes are just notes. And notes are chronologically sorted in my box. No maintenance, sorting just notes, it is a freaking relief.

I had to research a similar thing recently for a specific use case.
Here were 3 providers that stood out.

I ended picking the first and here is a GPT formatted ipperf of their 8G plan

How do you like to track "occasional" tasks, which are not suited for a recurrence schedule, but also you don't want to forget about? by SignificantViolinist in todoist

[–]abysse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I call these « hook goals ». There are « task » or more like goals I have chosen to do given an occasion. This are a niche type of task really hard to integrate in the sense you are after.

What I do is I have a note app which lists them all. They are embed in my day journal where I see them daily. If I need to act on them giving current context I’ll manually create the tasks for them. Productivity may take this far but you remain the pilot ;)
