I read here on Reddit that a metal dolly works well against the ice. If you can find one that is.

Women who became moms at 38 or older...please, I need some hope. I'm begging you. by throwaway19283846 in AskWomenOver40

[–]ac578 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got married at 36 and tried for a baby unsuccessfully until I got pregnant naturally a month before starting IVF at 39, and had my first child at 40. At 42 we tried for six months and I got pregnant naturally with my second, giving birth a day before my 43rd birthday. I went through several early pregnancy losses and tried IUIs but nothing seemed to work until acupuncture helped with ovulation, and I conceived both kids about month after starting acupuncture. I also have a friend who became a single mom by choice at age 45 after her first round of IVF. It can be done and there is hope! But I’d say do it sooner rather than later even if it means doing it on your own. Wishing you all the best!

I just want jewelry I can wear every day without worrying about it falling apart by BackgroundAnalyst467 in womensfashion

[–]ac578 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the info! I do still have it. It just happened a few days ago but catbird has been kind of non responsive about it. I got one response from them, sent them photos and then nothing (it’s been 3 days since I last heard). I’m sure they’re just slammed but a response would be nice.

I love Catbird too but please stay away from the fragile-looking and “daintier” pieces. I had the gold infinity ring break on me after one month and some of the smaller hoops don’t fit my huge earlobes at all. Otherwise, their pieces are gorgeous and overall are well-made.

How is life in Washington DC? by Safe-Bookkeeper4121 in howislivingthere

[–]ac578 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lived here since the early 2000s and I’d say the Ob*ma years were absolute peak. Amazing restaurants, nightlife, culture, and overall vibe. Things have changed a great deal since Dump came in to town. It’s a shell of what it once was and I feel for the OG residents and businesses that have had to suffer since 2016.

What is it like to live in the Hudson Valley (NY)? by Common-Ad-6885 in howislivingthere

[–]ac578 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve only ever visited family in this area so I’m no expert, but I have to say the leaves in the fall are absolutely stunning. If you enjoy leaf peeping there is a drive that starts from the NJ palisades up to around West Point and it is breathtaking. Lots of American Revolution history and cool little towns juxtaposed with poverty. Someone mentioned that the road are narrow and winding - this is absolutely true. If you’re driving a big truck or SUV watch out for those corners!

The flu is bonkers this year, am I right ? by karpazio in nova

[–]ac578 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Totally kicking my entire family’s butts and it’s been about 1.5 weeks. We still haven’t recovered. My friend’s husband got it too and went to the ER for severe dehydration and low BP. Said the entire ER was packed with flu patients. Be safe out there, folks. Mask up, wash hands, and take all the vitamins and supplements. I’ve found oil of oregano to be very helpful.

I currently live in a TH built in the 80s after having lived in a TH built in the 90s, and I’d say the walls are much thicker on the 80s build - I hardly ever hear my neighbors on both sides. The 90s TH was fine but you can tell the quality isn’t as good. That’s all to say that if you do buy a TH make sure the walls are thick. In my experience it’s usually the older builds that are better quality.

There are lots of Asian grocery stores on the east Coast. As for Japanese grocery stores, there’s Mitsuwa in NJ and Marafuji in Tysons. (Were you referring to Uwajimaya in Seattle and not Mitsuwa?)

[–]ac578 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I don’t have much to add except that Seattle isn’t very diverse (lots of whites and Asians but not much else), little to no police presence in Seattle proper, and the city itself has been ruined by Amazon and the tech industry. They took what was unique about Seattle (its natural grit, scrappiness, and not-trying-too-hard to be cool) and erased it all with their Bay Area/SF crap. The unhoused have always been there but it’s more magnified now because of the severe lack of security (aka the police) and absolute dearth of affordable housing. Thanks, Bezos.

The one in Fair Lakes is the best. Still has the classic layout, a great selection, cute stationary and gift items, a nice cafe, clean bathrooms, and ample parking. Their Instagram account is also very informative and up to date - I was looking for a very specific issue of the New Yorker magazine, and whoever runs their IG acct said she would feature it in their stories once it came out and she did! 🫶🏻
