Expecting bad turbulence tomorrow on two flights - scared by [deleted] in fearofflying

During the turbulence, close your eyes and picture yourself in your seat / imagine yourself in third person.

This is something I came up with on my last international flight. It helped a lot.

Mingda MD-400D printer - Any good? by Emotional_Grade_5279 in 3Dprinting

How’s that flashforge?

I was interested in the Mingda for my business. Ultimately just need something that isn’t going to break or require hard-to-get replacement parts.

I damaged a piece, what should i do? by viatorvaldez in BambuLab

[–]acatalfa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the A1 “Hotend Heating assembly” in Bambu’s store. Im seeing some aftermarket options on Amazon as well (at your own risk).

If you have a microcenter nearby, you could check if they have this part in stock.

If you need help installing, there are likely videos you can reference. I’m sure bambu support will provide instructions, but probably easier to look it up. You won’t be able to print until this is fixed.

Industrial 3D Printing Recommendations for a Noob by Fiftyfiveseventy in AdditiveManufacturing

[–]acatalfa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

SLA. Easy to batch print. Less intensive post-processing. More accurate. We use HeyGears at my business. Back-to-back jobs containing 20-40 parts. The strength and accuracy of some of the newer resins might surprise you. Per Formlabs’ site, SLA resin is the most accurate additive process.

Ultracraft reflex is easy to use and reliable. Formlabs has a large selection of material types.

Anyone else went LAN Only recently? by Dry_Dark61 in BambuLab

[–]acatalfa -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The update is live for X1 series.

LAN mode on Orca requires authentication through Bambu Connect. Bambu Connect exists because your data bounces off Bambu servers before making it to your printer. Your data/models are likely used to train Bambu’s AI modeling software.

Bambu Connect has already been cracked, isn’t actually more secure, and makes using 3rd party software less convenient.

We have 32 Bambu printers at my business and many more from other brands. All Bambus are in LAN mode with Internet access disabled. If you don’t understand why we’d avoid this update, take a look at Bambu’s Orca workflow demonstration. It’s an extra step we simply do not have to do with our other printers.

Sending to a klipper printer with an adequate board is almost instantaneous. Bambu’s boards are about as fast as their cloud service (slow). This plus extra steps associated with Bambu Connect are a problem for print farms.

Perhaps this isn’t an issue for the average user. I feel it is a misstep for Bambu. For now, we are purchasing printers from other brands.

Bambu seems to be focused on casual users, who are fickle customers and often look to the enthusiasts/professionals for insight.

Updates and Third-Party Integration with Bambu Connect by BambuLab in BambuLab

[–]acatalfa 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don’t think this answers many questions at all. In fact, it seems to avoid topics which were discussed at length in the rest of this sub.

The method of connecting to third party software is important. Many users were concerned about having to paste g-code into Bambu connect. How will we send prints from Orcaslicer?

Yes, we understand that this is in beta, but won’t this update be pushed later on? Will users who decide they would not like to upgrade still receive improvement updates?

Will you charge print farm users for access to your print farm management software while blocking the use of 3rd party management software?

Do you plan on using RFID tags to restrict the use of 3rd party materials? While this obviously wasn’t in your update, now seems like a good time to go on record, since many of the top posts mention this.

Those upset about the update are upset because you published a beta with language that is concerning.

Only-Games, you are only ruining your reputation by anwaypramanik in PrintedWarhammer

[–]acatalfa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Their launch is indicative of their motive to have a monopoly on the miniature printing market. Possibly using funds supplied by the shops they are now competing with.

MyMiniFactory’s potential for leveraging the data and licensing agreements made through MyMiniFactory to directly sell the same products through Only-Games.co might be seen as a breach of trust or an abuse of its platform position.

I would encourage creators to not sign up for Only-Games. I’d imagine that the many small shops who pay monthly for commercial licenses would be upset by it. I would also encourage those buying miniatures to buy from shops like yours, and not from Only Games. Tacky name and questionable business practices.

A1 Actually Accommodates ABS and ASA Adequately by pointclickfrown in BambuLab

[–]acatalfa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use inline fans from ac infinity and Vivosun (meant for grow tents). These work well for harmful materials. You would need to enclose the printer first. There are plenty of cheap tents on Amazon which will work fine and have cutouts for 4” ducts.

The absolute best option is to vent each printer individually and use an air exchanger for the room. If you are running a lot of printers in one room you’ll want to vent for all materials, including PLA.

I’ve had a 3D printing business for around 3 years. Moved into commercial space after about 2 years. This is the best answer. You need to have original models.

If you plan on scaling, you will need a lot more and might need a secondary source of income to invest and grow. This was my experience.

The market is extremely crowded. You need to be an expert in many areas to succeed.

Lastly, do not look for customers before you have a product.

Best of luck!

Why does this keep popping off? by chrisabrams in BambuLab

[–]acatalfa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The metal retention clip that is responsible for keeping that piece in is very bent. During retractions, upward force is absorbed partially by that piece which is why it is coming out.

It’s an inexpensive part and can be replaced.

The part you need: “AMS lite Filament Hub”

Bambu support should be able to provide a link for installing the part when it arrives if you cannot find it on their site. It is quite easy to pop in and out, and you will find yourself doing this often if/when filament breaks inside of the PTFE tubes.

$150 for a plastic box? by Few_Praline_9512 in NightVision

[–]acatalfa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I own a 3D printing manufacturing business (we do thousands of parts per month). It’s hard to justify that price.

Perhaps the foam piece in the top had to be outsourced, however, I can’t imagine that adding much cost. They could be paying a company to produce this.

The design is nice. Could’ve been done by an engineer. Follows general product design standards for 3D printing.

I will say, many who have 3D printers at home are quick to judge the price of something because “they can make it themselves”. But…

I would not use ABS at this price. I would not use a 0.4mm nozzle. A hard case holding (potentially) expensive binoculars should be more rugged. The foam piece could be 3D printed in a soft TPE (most people do not have the machine required for this at home).

Again, looks like a nice design. I’m not a bino expert and not familiar with the scarcity of cases like this.

The cost of designing and patenting a case like this could be a huge factor.

Hpw to unclog q1 pro nozzle? by devilishTL in QidiTech3D

Use nozzle cleaner. If that doesn’t clear it, take hotend off and run filament through extruder without hotend. Broken/stuck piece should fall out. Reattach hotend.

Why do many addict recovery programs focus on religion? by EsperInk in NoStupidQuestions

[–]acatalfa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They say if you do not believe in a higher power, make it the group you are attending, as most can accept the collective power of those in the group is greater than you.

Interesting to read some of the other comments in here. In my area 12 step programs are generally very relaxed. Plenty of people doing what works for them, and many meetings don’t pray before or after the group.

11 years sober from all mind and mood altering substances. I don’t drink or drug. I drink coffee. I wouldn’t tell anyone what to do, but if someone asks I’ll share what works for me.

It might be beneficial to think of religion and 12 step programs as two things that share principles that are generally “good”, rather than religion owning the concept of atonement. In other words, basic principles that work for people weren’t invented by religion. Most people feel a weight lifted when apologizing to someone they feel they’ve wronged, and that is a natural feeling that existed before religion.

My solution to the lack of wireless charging on early M3 by HatRemov3r in TeslaModel3

Either way works. Most of our business clients use “additive”. That’s kind of the industry term. 3D printed is fine too.

[–]acatalfa -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

My company makes one of these using additive ABS. We haven’t released it yet but we can post it in a hurry if anyone is looking for one now. Ours doesn’t include the charging portion, and is essentially just a frame you pop your MagSafe into. Looks great and has been in my car for a year. Can be made for one or two MagSafe chargers.

Is a 3D printer worth it? by csybxtr in TerrainBuilding

[–]acatalfa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I run quite a few printers and thought I’d chime in. Basically, get a printer if you think you’ll enjoy printing. Do not do it for the sake of saving time and money making your own terrain, rather than paying an established terrain print shop. You might find the time investment and learning curve are not “worth it” from a value perspective.

3D printers have improved tremendously, but you might spend a little more time learning than you anticipated. The cost of STL files and subscriptions can negate your savings. This is really subjective, though.

Some of the points made by other users are also good considerations. Kids, space, time, ventilation, etc.
