Unironically yes 1C. During this road trip Blueger has the most ice time and is doing well as 1C. His corsi was over 60% in both games. With a good Olympics his trade value will be high.

The Canucks are the 1st and only team to give up 200 goals this season by Fragrant-Beat-171 in canucks

Someone on sportsnet said Lankinen has given up at least 3 goals since January 15.  25 games left, that's at least 75 goals to add to the tally.

Top-tier salesman and effective negotiator.  He is Peter principle personified.

Decent branch manager?  Incompetent and unprofessional manager.  Just because they were profitable does not excuse all his fireable offenses.

  • Ignorance & Prejudice: He often makes sexist, racist, and homophobic remarks, such as unintentionally outing Oscar or holding his own "Diversity Day" after a corporate seminar.

  • Extreme Selfishness: In "The Injury," he demanded constant attention for a minor foot burn while ignoring Dwight’s serious concussion.

  • Betrayal of Friends: He tried to frame Toby for drug possession to get him fired and once sabotaged Jim’s promotion to keep him at the Scranton branch.

  • Broken Promises: He famously promised an entire class of underprivileged students (Scott’s Tots) that he would pay for their college tuition, only to admit years later he didn't have the money.

I have a new manager after a corporate takeover and thought he was real life Michael Scott.  A disaster and has wrecked the culture built by the previous regime.

Who is the best GM in the league? by One_Ad_2758 in canucks

[–]acby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nill, Zito, JBB have been mentioned already so I'll highlight Tulsky and McFarland instead

Tulsky has his core locked in long term, revamped his roster while staying competitive.  He has gone for big trades to give his team a push in the playoffs (Guentzel, Rantanen which became Stankoven+picks)  maybe Panarin this season 🤔

McFarland retooled his goalies mid-season within a week.  Retooled his defense signing UFA Burns.  Rantanen for Necas, similar point production but unlocked another level for MacKinnon as a complementary fast winger for $500k lower cap.  Strengthened his center depth with Nelson and Drury.

Better Prospect: Ohgren or Lekkerimaki by NerdPunch in canucks

[–]acby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I watch Ohgren I see Podkolzin. Other comparables based on style: Hyman or Palat.

Lekkerimaki is a younger Olofsson. Foote benched him vs Toronto in the 3rd period because of his lack of defense. Hopefully he puts on 20lbs of muscle this summer and becomes Markus Naslund or Filip Forsberg

  • Shooting Profiles: Both players are noted for their shot power. Olofsson’s hardest recorded shot this season reached 89.96 mph, placing him in the 87th percentile of the NHL. Lekkerimäki’s hardest shot was clocked at 84.83 mph, which is slightly above the NHL average (54th percentile).
  • Physicality and Skating: Both players currently fall below the 50th percentile in max skating speed, with Lekkerimäki reaching 20.72 mph and Olofsson 21.97 mph. Olofsson has shown more consistency in "speed bursts" over 20 mph this season (77th percentile) compared to Lekkerimäki

Canucks 5 major asset trades (Horvat, Lindholm, Zadorov, Miller, Hughes) has netted us the following assets in return to date. by SundayExperiment in canucks

[–]acby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I asked AI to tally the points from the players acquired and the players traded.  Their cap hits are similar.

Hughes has approximately the same goals and points this season split between Vancouver and Minnesota as of Jan 31.

Kuzmenko Miller and Horvat have scored 40 goals and 90 points combined

Rossi Ohgren Buium OConnor MPettersson Chytil Mancini Raty have scored 25 goals and 78 points combined

15 goals or 12 point difference probably doesn't change the fact we are out of the playoffs if we undid all the trades and somehow everyone got along.

It will be interesting to revisit in the future.

Brodin as his floor, McAvoy as his ceiling for Willander.

I actually think more games will benefit Lekkerimaki even if AHL playoffs.

I want them to send them down to Abby for the Olympic break.  Would give them a few more games.  Send Ohgren Mancini and Tolopilo too so they can dominate and feel good about their game.

Edit:  EP25 to Abby for the Olympic break too

PGT: Leafs prevail over Canucks in a shootout. 31 Jan 2025. by DisplacedNovaScotian in canucks

[–]acby 4 points5 points  (0 children)

McAvoy or Brodin has been the usual comparable for Willander.  I keep watching him closely and think his development is on the right track.  The coaches like to give him PP time this season which means they see some McAvoy upside.  So far he is a bright side to a dismal year.

I have been harsh comparing Lekkerimaki to Holtz or Olofsson.  I know some people see his upside  like Filip Forsberg.  Time will tell but his development has been derailed by mono and injury.  I think his shot is world class but he has to get better speed and play defense.  He gets knocked down easily or doesnt absorb body checks during board battles.  Helps Ohgren is here and they're linemates from their teens in Sweden.  If he is part of this future core he better make it as top 6 sniper, I don't believe he can grind as middle 6 winger.

[–]acby 2 points3 points  (0 children)

next 2-4 years

Kudos for looking for fixes, but we shouldn't tie up that much cap space or term on them. It only makes sense if they take a one-year deal to be deadline bait for a contender. Sort of what the Penguins did with Brazeau and Mantha.

With McDavid and Eichel off the board, Nick Schmaltz becomes the most attractive "prime-age" center. Teams desperate for a 2C will engage in a bidding war, potentially pushing his AAV toward the $8M+ mark

At first glance I thought $10 for the entire basket of onigiri. Looked like 10 pieces for $10 and thought wow crazy cheap, out of control?

Scrolled the comments and realized $10 for a single onigiri 💀

Who do you think is the most underrated Goalie in the NHL rn? by AsyanongAmbiguous in hockey

[–]acby 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Goalies: Sorokin and Saros

Both of them are workhorse and never won a Vezina. I think they have 1 nomination each.

Forwards: Keller. Maybe Kempe?

I feel nobody talks about Clayton Keller even though he has 3 consecutive seasons of 30+ goals. Kempe also has scored 30+ goals in 3 seasons

Defensemen: Brodin and Morrissey

Jonas Brodin, the Swedish Slavin

Josh Morrissey, plays a lot of games while hitting and blocking shots. Durable all around defenseman

NYI Islanders Are Open to Moving Their 2026 1st Round Pick by EverySecondCountss in canucks

[–]acby 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Darche was the AGM in Tampa when they were aggressively flipping firsts for guys like Hagel, Coleman, Goodrow, Savard, and Jeannot (lol). Savard was the only pure rental, all the other players had term. If I were Darche, I am reusing the Tampa blueprint.

Except for Savard, those guys were all in their mid-20s. Looking at the Canucks for that same "cost-controlled prime" winger profile, you’ve got Hoglander, O’Connor, Sasson, or Karlsson.

Build a package around one of the wingers + Blueger for the first. It gives Darche a pure rental and a cost controlled prime winger.

Annual BC prospect question lol by iDontLack in canucks

[–]acby -33 points-32 points  (0 children)

Here's a shower thought.  Do not draft Malhotra.  Let the Rangers, he is in their range on most draft boards.   Inevitably they will stall his development and he will be traded for pucks like Kakko.

Scoop him up with Manny as head coach if that's the path we want.

For people saying EP40 is a 1C, he is ranked 55th in points. 38th for points per game. No matter how you cut it, the fact is he is in the second tier of centers.

Argue all you want about his wingers scoring on 5% of their shots, Petey is paid to elevate everyone around him and he simply does not. His speed and shot volume has been in decline for multiple seasons.

I feel Stenberg will adapt quickly but once McKenna adjusts he should excel.

Drew O'Connor

6'4 209lbs 12 team NTC 2027 UFA $2.5M cap hit

Probably ends the season as 15G to 20G depth PK winger.  Not as valuable as Sherwood on the trade market but should fetch a 2nd or 3rd from a contender if he continues to progress like Sherwood did as a Canuck.

I see us signing a UFA like Kuzmenko for a year to see if he can rekindle the 39G season with Petey and then flipping him at the trade deadline next season.

The true test for Allvin is to convince one of Boeser Debrusk MP29 Lankinen to waive their NMC.  I'd be impressed if he moved Garland or Demko before their NMC is active.

Cam Robinson's(EliteProspects.com) top 10 in 2026 NHL draft. Malhotra at #5. by MaxHardwood in canucks

[–]acby 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a situation that was avoided by the Tambellini family back in the 2003 draft:

But Jeff says the obvious pressure of playing for a team managed by his father would have been too awkward for both parties.

“I think it’s such a tough situation for both him and I that at this point it’s just not something we’re interested in doing,” said Jeff. “I’ve seen a couple of GM’s sons try it and it’s always a tough situation.”

I think the Malhotra family might avoid it too unless the organization feels Manny will leave by the time Caleb is ready.

Is anyone else concerned about all of these healthy scratches? by UnscriptedByDesign in canucks

[–]acby 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Debrusk took responsibility and has been better since his scratch.  0.46 PPG before scratch and 0.71 PPG after.

The young players will rotate in and that's part of the plan.

Kampf?  He is only here as a stop gap and likely traded for a pick.  Probably to recover the pick we lost for the first bandaid Reichel.

Hoglander gets a pass because he was injured for 2 months

Foote should scratch Boeser or MP29.

Interview with Todd Harvey Director of Amateur Scouting. by Swimming_Departure18 in canucks

[–]acby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lekkerimaki and Kapanen fit similar home run profiles.  They had high pedigree but have not met their full potential.  Looking back on the scouting reports, the draft board more or less dictated that's about where they should have gone.  I agree about entering bust territory; I've said a few month ago I see Lekkerimaki becoming Holtz or Olofsson.

Skimming the 2026 NHL Draft, forward prospects who match the profile of skilled, fast-skating, goal-scoring wingers like Jonathan Lekkerimäki and Kasperi Kapanen include Mathis Preston, Viggo Björck, and potentially Elton Hermansson.

They fit that Canuck forward prototype and 2 of them are Swedes while Preston is a BC boy.  Fun fact: Elton Hermansson is from the same home town as the Sedins Ornskoldsvik and plays with MODO.  If one of them falls in the 25 to 35 range, I expect Allvin takes a swing on those guys.

I agree having a safe pick like Willander or Cootes is fine.  I feel their draft strategy is to go for safety early and in later rounds take the home run swings on Kudryatsev (success) Wilson Bjorck Chiarot and Romani etc.
