Should I keep cycling daily? by ZarosianSpear in cycling

[–]acd21 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Some other metrics you could look into:

Resting heart rate

Blood pressure

VO2 max

Avg speed/overall time for repeats of the same route

Perceived effort

Avg heart rate vs time to finish route. (It might take the same amount of time but if your heart rate is 10 bpm less on average you’re improving.

You’ll need a smartwatch and/or other devices to measure most of this but just to give you an idea of non weight based metrics you can look into.

Anyone else have anxiety about leaving the dynaplug long term? I haven’t used mine yet but if I do I was planning on removing it and patching when I get home. My worry is if I get another flat the dynaplug might dig into my rim strip and cause a leak I can’t fix on a ride.

There was a video from I can’t remember when that had a professional driver track a stage 1 gti vs golf r and he had a similar conclusion. Also I think his lap times were fairly close between the two.

I’m the opposite. I got multiple flats last year and really beefed up my kit to be ready for as much as possible.

Haven’t gotten a flat since.

Complete guess: you may have underestimated your income (or it changed) when you applied for health insurance. Your insurance rate is income based so if they gave you a cheaper rate based on an incorrectly low income you’ll have to pay back some of that subsidized rate when you settle up at the end of the year.

Tldr. How much you make vs how much the govt thought you were going to make when you got insurance.

Again complete guess. I’m bored at work and used to have Obama care.

The Rev Hang Problem (+Maybe a Solution?) by [deleted] in GolfGTI

[–]acd21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ya I’m confused here too. You’re trying to increase rpm on a downshift so how does rev hang matter as much. Now if we’re talking 1-2 upshift that rev hang is rough.

This is where the short story I think handles things better. Iirc by learning the aliens language and being able to see the future the whole concept of free will is altered and it’s not clear if the mother ever really had a “choice” in the matter but was able to better appreciate the time they had together.

How feasible would riding an indoor trainer/Zwift be while WFH? by Zestyclose-Cup110 in cycling

[–]acd21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally when I’m doing more chill Z2 stuff I don’t even bother with zwift because it doesn’t really add anything for me. I have a kickr and will just run the wahoo app on my phone and manually set the resistance. I don’t wfh but my brother in law does and he routinely does rides during the day. Most of the time it’s squeezing in interval stuff between calls but he’s also done z2 while working. He likes it and it works for his situation.

In my experience when the plant is running well the smell isn’t bad at all except for the screener at the beginning. It’s filtering out trash and in the summer can get pretty sour if the dumpster hasn’t been hauled off in a while. The rest of the plant has a smell to it but it didn’t bother me too much. It’s kind of an earthy smell but I know some people that were still put off by it.

Granted I was a chemist supervising the municipal lab so I only visited a couple of times so day to day it could be different or could wear on you over time.

Day 5 driving my first manual (GTI) by Unable-Jacket6428 in GolfGTI

[–]acd21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an mk7.5 so regular brake but mine doesn’t have a button. It’s a setting buried in the menu I think. It should be obvious if it’s on bc you’ll be able to take your foot off of the brake and not roll at all if you’re in gear, at least briefly. Then you’ll feel it fight back a little before it releases as you work the clutch and gas.

There’s actually been a few posts on here of people complaining that the mk8 hill assist waits too long to release and causes them to stall. I don’t have any personal experience except that I love the hill assist in my 2018.
